One of the best shotguns for sport and home defense. The pistol grip combined with the shoulder stock gives you an exceptionally stable platform for accurate shot placement, especially if you're shooting slugs.

Most crime will occur at your home so you need a firearm:

Old reliable Mossberg500

If you have a petite person at the house look into Escort Gladius.

Because when I was going to but a Sig or a Glock for home protection, the sales rep at the gun store told me to get the Taurus. Why?

He said look here young man I can sell you an expensive Sig or a Glock, but most in home confrontations will happen within 6 feet. So, you're better off getting this Tauras for half the price, plus it's a good gun.

Taurus is made in Brazil can the cost is cheaper to make, so the prices are lower.

Hence why they're more expensive- better sights/rifling/etc. But if you need something for close quarters, you just need something that won't jam.

for their accuracy over greater distances for stationary targets. The Taurus is an accurate gun too. But the fact is that if you encounter as burglar or have to use your weapon out in the street the event is most likely not going to happen at a distance greater than 6ft and the target will most likely be moving. So you might as well get a gun that will offer you the same bang for a lower buck.

What do you use for home defense rounds? Hollow points are recommended because they mushroom and break up into pieces easier than FMJ, so they don't go punching through walls as easily. Cuts down on the risk of strays hitting someone.

Also, accuracy is more determined by factors such as your skill level, barrel length and ammunition used as opposed to the type of gun, unless there are manufacturing defects. Glocks are popular because they are guns for dummies... uh, I mean "people that own but don't care to learn about what they own", not so much because their accuracy.

If it's on, why would he want to remove his trigger from the firearm? Also having to re-sight his target. All he'd be doing is slowing himself down. It's probably more stupid than holding a handgun sideways. Unless your friend has one arm, that is.

Edit: Also, pistol grips on long guns suck.

Even though I can catch a good deal there. 15 minutes outside of Philly at the gun show and there's mad dudes that look like they have a stack of "black man wearing a hoodie" targets just out of sight.

There used to be some ok ranges in Philly, but not sure now. Honestly, the best shooting I've done was on someone's private property in Mississippi.

nah it was totally cool, black folks all over the place, customer's vendors

it was good times. go there be seen, its for the best!

other than being able to maintain and load the gun properly, if someone was in your house you couldn't miss them if you tried

id suggest go shoot some clays that is the best practice for shot guns

if you shooting a full power 12 gauge or even a low recoil shell its important to get used to that kick

Light weight and powerful. I started off with a .9mm Beretta; I loved it but it was heavy and the recoil at times was a bit much.

I also had a .22mm which I kept in my car but my pops made a very good point that a .22 is not stopping a grown ass man if he really wanted to hurt me. It may slow someone down but with adrenaline you would have to be either a sharp shooter or be able to shoot them multiple times to bring them down.

just fyi....far as stoppage with a .9mm it may take two three shots to stop a grown man opposed to one with a .45

thus is why I went with a fo-fif

with multiple rounds

than i am hoping i land that one shot thats going to put them down

now that doesnt take into account the amount of practice you put in with your 45 and maybe you can pop off 4 5 6 7 shots in quick succession accurate enough to stop someone...

but on average a person is going to be more effective with more rounds more accurately on target than less rounds less accurately

but of course each situation is different!

obviously a .45 round is larger than a .9mm round

the kick with a 9 is less than a 45 for the most therefore it's easier to be more accurate with multiple shots...

but knockdown power 1 on 1 .9 vs .45??

.45 is gonna win that race most times...

Home Defense- Shotgun

Concealment Carry- Almost anything sub-compact. If you don't
want large calibur stick with 9mm or .380. .22 is too small.

Hobby- For short distance shooting get a good pistol. I prefer
hammerless. Check out the Springfield XD or Sig Sauer.
For long distance get a rifle. If you're not used to rifle
shooting get a .22 and work your way up. Assult rifles aren't
necessary but nice to own.

Shooting is one of my hobbies.

just gotta think about why you want a gun

home defense?
self defense(conceal/open carry)?
hunting?
just for fun?

if its just for fun pretty much its whatever you want to spend

just remember pretty much bigger caliber the more expensive the ammo

there are ammo shortages all the time including 22 MAG so its smart to look into the ammo types youll be shooting just to learn about them(its kinda fun) and to know what you are getting into money wise

when you start talking defense its a whole different ball game but i want to tell you this

fuck "stopping power"

for your house

get a shot gun(semi auto is probably(debatable) best, pump is fun though =))
get you a handgun(preferably more than one) (for defense get the same caliber explanation below)
get a rifle (like an AR or AK)

in that order above^^^

shotgun is great, i have a 1973 remington 870 wingmaster

its amazing and my first gun i purchased myself

its a birdgun, so i took the 30" barrel and put a 18.5" LE and +2 LE mag extension.

original laminate stock was cracked so i put the LE Walnut furniture

http://i.imgur.com/HUIDWZ8.jpg

now here is where i messed up but not really because i love it

i have a friend that is way into guns(i have several cause texas) and they reload which is amazing. anyways they took me out and i shot several different calibers and several different guns.

Unfortunately one of the very first guns i shot was the glock 29 which is a sub compact 10mm. 10mm is a BEAST way over powered for any kind of real self defense unless its against bears or boar

10mm is commonly carried by hunters for self defense, it was origianlly the round created for FBI agents but was found to be too powerful with problems of over penatration so the .40 was created which is basically like half a 10mm anyways... i freaking loved this gun so he eventually sold it to me for a very reasonable price. it was already heavily customzed (barsto barrel, trigger work) and i put in some other things but its a glock

you buy a glock theres really nothing you need to do to it they are amazing and reliable. anyways ive since purchased two other hand guns and this brings me to my discussion about what type of caliber to carry or use in defensive situations

hand guns...

shoot waht you feel comfortable shooting quickly and accurately

forget stopping power

fuck stopping power if yall want to see some shit ill show you a video of a guy take 3 .40 cal rounds to the chest and run away.

all that really matters (380 and above really) is how fast you can put rounds accurately on target. so shoot what you are comfortable shooting from a recoil and accuracy standpoint

i am awaiting my CCL in the mail and i have purchased my first carry weapon (the glock 29 is just fine but like i said its way powerful) a S&W MP Shield 9mm and i love. i of course have upgraded it but its a sub compact and i love shooting it. I shoot it the best so i bought it. anyways ive rambled on ALOT sorry but if you have questions ask

Home defense is the primary aim right now.
Working in DC and living so close to DC kinda precludes me from even entertaining conceal carry.

A couple of posts brought up some great points about the type of ammunition, I never even considered that you'd want rounds that would NOT go all the way through the walls of your house and potentially harming your neighbors...good stuff indeed.

SHould I just go to somewhere like Dick's Sporting Goods and look at shot guns?

but i probably would not buy one from there unless you just didnt have any choices as they are probably over priced. Gun shops/gun ranges and gun shows are your best bet. (ordering online is too but you have to deal with shipping it to FFL people)

used shot guns are really the way to go IMO like i said i have one from 1973. It looks brand new and will probably out live me.

but they are all so cheap you can probably find any shotgun you want for 500 or less

in regards to ammo

Ya i even hesitate to keep 00 buckshot in mine because i live in a small house with relatively thin walls with two small ish dogs so i realy dont want to be blasting with that if i dont have to. I have some #4 buck for homedefense

If you're fiscally conservative keep mace and a machete nearby. Loading shotguns takes too long anyway.

Know your gun laws by heart and make sure you abide by them.
