"Cop murders another unarmed black person in Cincinnati."

Look, this story could end up w/ the cop being totally justified. That said, at this point if you're not figuring out that the majority of patrol cops assume black people's aim is to kill them then I don't know what to tell ya. It's the ONLY explanation for this repeated behavior.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/21/us/cincinnati-police-shooting/index.html?sr=tw072115cincinnatipoliceshooting320pVODtopLink

(CNN)Cincinnati police are investigating the fatal shooting of an apparently unarmed black man by a University of Cincinnati police officer after a confrontation during a traffic stop Sunday.

The dead man, who was shot in the head, was Samuel Dubose, a 43-year-old father of 13 children, according to CNN affiliate WKRC-TV. A CNN records search showed that Dubose had more than 60 arrests.

Authorities identified the officer as Ray Tensing, who has five years' experience in law enforcement and who has worked for the University of Cincinnati Police Department for more than a year. He is white.

According to Cincinnati police, which is handling the investigation, Tensing saw Dubose driving without a front license plate around 6:30 Sunday evening and tried to pull him over. Police said Dubose continued for about a mile before stopping the car.

Tensing asked several times to see Dubose's driver's license, Cincinnati police said. Instead, police said, Dubose handed the officer a bottle of alcohol.

According to police, Tensing asked Dubose to step out of the car, at which point a struggle ensued.

"There was a struggle at the door with Mr. Dubose in the vehicle and the officer outside the vehicle, and the vehicle sped away," Cincinnati police Lt. Col. James Whalen told reporters.

Police said Dubose then stuck his key back in the ignition and sped away as Tensing fired a single shot, hitting the driver in the head.

Tensing fell to the ground as he fired the shot, bruising his legs and tearing his uniform, Cincinnati police said.

It appeared that Dubose did not have a weapon, according to police.

Dubose's mother, Audrey, said her son was "full of love," CNN affiliate WLWT-TV reported.

"Know that my son was not a violent person," she said. "My son ... he got stopped a lot but he never tried to fight."

Dubose's son, Samuel, told WKRC, "He was coming home that night and we had a projector so we were going to watch a movie on it but we didn't get to do that ... because he died."

The officer has been placed on administrative leave with pay. He has not yet been interviewed, nor have two other officers who arrived on the scene, as they are allowed 24 to 48 hours to work with their attorneys first.

Tensing was wearing a body camera, police said. They also said they have received surveillance video from nearby buildings but have yet to view it. No dashboard camera video is available, police said.

Tensing fell to the ground as he fired the shot, bruising his legs and tearing his uniform, Cincinnati police said.

so the guy is just trying to flee. one guy catches a deadly bullet to the head juxtaposed with the cop getting a bruise.

jesus fucking christ.

i'm not saying he * IS * justified, i'm pointing out how out of control this whole shit is because it's likely that the cops/prosecutors/judges will deem that it was justified...and even if it was in the eyes of the law, it's obvious that these cops are overcome with fear when there was NO REASON to shoot this guy (or all of the others who've been killed).

b/c the driver handed him a bottle of booze when the officer asked for his driver's license. but still that doesn't necessarily justify him shooting the driver in the head from behind.

Bc this wasn't on campus, correct? So wtf is their jurisdiction?

Dubose never threatened him verbally or physically. If the cop feared for his life the fear doesn't appear reasonable to me based on the video. But we'll see how a jury sees it - unless the cop pleads guilty or chooses a bench trial. And if I were him I'd go with a jury.

pretty much hanging the officer out to dry off the rip. I wonder if he has an ulterior motive, he doesn't seem to be too fond of the UC police dept and has suggested that they be disbanded and let city of Cincinnati police take over.

http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSKCN0Q522S20150731?irpc=932

(Reuters) - Two University of Cincinnati police officers who were interviewed about the death of an unarmed black motorist at the hands of a fellow officer will not face charges, a prosecutor said on Friday.

Ray Tensing, 25, a former University of Cincinnati police officer, has been charged with murder in the shooting death of Samuel DuBose, who had been stopped for a missing license plate. Tensing, who had pleaded not guilty, was released from jail on bond on Thursday.

The two other University of Cincinnati officers, Phillip Kidd and David Lindenschmidt, were placed on administrative leave on Thursday. They testified in front of a Hamilton County grand jury, which decided not to press charges.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters said he agreed with the decision, and that the officers were cooperative and consistent in their statements.

"When the officers were specifically asked about what they saw and heard, their statements matched Tensing's body camera video," said Deters.

i.e. if that video doesn't exist, everybody gets off

funk dot, this judge is just wrong.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2015/07/29/the_sam_dubose_police_report_is_full_of_falsehoods_from_ray_tensing_s_colleagues.html

so Deters a lie

"“Officer Kidd told me that he witnessed the Honda Accord drag Officer Tensing, and that he witnessed Officer Tensing fire a single shot,” Weibel’s report reads.

Again, Tensing’s fellow officers backed up the claim of injuries at the hand of Dubose. In dispatcher audio of the incident, the New York Times reported that you can hear another officer saying Tensing was injured. In the report itself, the responding officer seems to attempt to back up his colleague.

“Looking at Officer Tensing’s uniform, I could see that the back of his pants and shirt looked as if it had been dragged over a rough surface,” Weibel wrote. “I suggested to Officer Tensing that he should go to the hospital for an examination.”

and we should be able to see the grand jury testimony, but you know how that goes

Deters said, in his own words, they filed a false report

2 days later, he's saying they didn't

= BS.

it was a month ago that he said it, and it was on Larry Wilmore last night.

basically called most black people lazy bums who leach off the government teat.

so, while he's been kinda gung ho about handing this officer his ass, i have to wonder what will really happen once the judicial wheels get rolling.

And the sad part is, it’s not going to stop because the root cause of this -- and I’m not a sociologist -- but the root cause of this is much deeper than some simple robbery or something like that. The root cause of this is there’s no discipline in the homes, they don’t go to school -- you know -- they live off the government. No personal accountability and they just beat people up for no reason and it’s disgusting."

unless my understanding is correct (which it often is) he was talking about the particular suspects in the case. now obviously what he said moved into easily extrapolated generalizations, but i wouldn't say he called out "most black people" as posited above.

Sounds an awful lot like the bullshit pro-cop sheep spew in response to police brutality complaints.

No, if he said this specifically about particular suspects in a specific crime, then no, that doesn't translate to "this is how he views most black people".

I haven't read the statement itself nor the context in which it was said, but *if* it was such a specific statement then you're just plain wrong.

Jonathan Stickland was tellin it like it t-i-is.

http://www.star-telegram.com/news/state/texas/article29667115.html

Potent quotables:

"I know the death happened in the jail, but the catalyst for the death clearly happened at the traffic stop,” state Rep. Jonathan Stickland, R-Bedford, told McCraw, who was interrogated for an hour by members of the Texas House Committee on County Affairs.

When Stickland pressed McCraw about why Encinia was still on the job, the DPS chief said only that he didn’t “prejudge any investigation.”

Stickland, a proponent of individual liberty and a fiscal conservative, hammered on Encinia’s continued employment several times.

“Texas taxpayers are paying him,” Stickland said, visibly irritated. “For a lot of people it’s pretty cut and dry what happened. Someone’s liberties were stomped on.”

In response to Reply # 87

4 indicted
7 charged

I think it's reasonable to assume that he didn't research each individual's bakcground in 3 days to qualify those statements

he covered alot of area

no structure at home
no education
welfare

and for 'no reason', which could be debated in light of cases like Sam Dubose's
and he also contradicts himself stating one of the individuals attacked was a robbery

not salvagable = some of those charged are juveniles, but he said to throw them away

do any of them have criminal charges for attacking their grandmothers?

did he make any of those personal accusations against the officers involved in the Sam Dubose murder?

c'mon fam

=/= probably

did he call Tensing a lawless thug?

as per Atillah's reply above

I think you can see the impact that a statement like that has coming from a prosecutor

not having any other information about the suspects I'd refrain from commenting on their intellect

I think 1 suspect was 29

the rest were 21 and younger

based on that information I would disagree with the sentiment of let's throw them away, no hope, etc...

but did any of them beat up their grandmother though?
