If you're the Three-Star prospect, you aren't going to play elite competition night-in-and-night-out, and lord forbid you struggle a little.

There was a lot of other bullshit at play w/ him and Bill Walker and that crew, but still.

One HBCU gonna have to step their game all the way up to pull this off.

I still contend that Howard is the perfect school to do it, but it would take a massive overhaul of everything.

Howard could have a Butler like impact on CBB if all the cards fell into place.

It would take a lot, but all the elements are there for it to happen if they'd hire an AD w/ some balls and vision.

a sniff at becoming a threat to Florida or Florida State especially considering UCF is decent in basketball and USF is always looming.

You see what they did to UAB football in Alabama? and that's not even a HBCU.

Aside from the fact that Tech actually is a leader in educating african americans in technical fields (particularly architecture and engineering), the coaches that can benefit your career the most arent at HBCU's. Thats why i referenced the expression "cutting off your nose to spite your face". Going the small college route will help your school, but it won't do anything positive for your career.

why not at a hbcu?
he will be honoring a heritage
all the while bringing visbility to hbcu athletics which
has next to none from what i've seen and experienced

if an HBCU is gonna do it in basketball. Why not Howard? They get the right boosters behind that shit, get a good coach/recruiter, a deal w/ UnderArmour (UMD would have to not be scared of some comp) and some TV money. Shit could be on for a long ass time.

If I do go to school, I go to Duke because their former players SEEM to be better off than other school's former players.

but I think being BMOC in a legitimate college town might be too good to pass up. Texas sounds great, but it's too much of a football school.

Arizona, might be a good choice.

That's four years of potential injuries. I'd only go to a college if I was organically interested or good at a subject, and wanted to learn that while playing b-ball. If you're gonna get drafted to the majors why go? those colleges don't pay.

D-League.

That's why Brandon Jennings and Mudiay went overseas. I like it too, I'd rather them go to a league w/ more visibility tho. China is a pretty significant drop off from the Euro leagues.

Kentucky, Kansas, UNC...no Duke though. I would want to experience that big college program lifestyle. Playing at that level would also help prep me for the league...even if just for one year.

UCLA would be dope due to where it is too.

Where can i get alladis?

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

since 2000 could have made the impact that y'all talking about on an entire program?

The only one I got is LeBron. LeBron could have single-handedly carried let's say...NC A&T or Hampton to the Elite-8, maybe the Final Four.

Other than him, who?

Melo won at a Power conference school, but let's be real, he ain't doing that shit if he went to Morgan or Coppin State.

Rose couldn't lead a far superior Memphis team past Kansas- No

Durant couldn't get Texas out of the 2nd round- No

Davis/Wall -No

If I'm a can't miss prospect, I'm not going to college to play for free. If the NBA won't take me, I'd take my talents overseas for a year.

Either that, or just take the year off. Hire a private coach or something like that just to make sure I don't drop in the draft

Florida's hoops program is much better but if I'm just concerned about the extras, I'm going to FSU.

In response to Reply # 0

Two years ago, the only correct answer would be Kentucky, but Coack K has it going now. He and Cal know how to NOT fuck up your draft stock. Super important if you've been overrated by your HS ranking.

Getting laid by LA women 3x a day sounds (AND WOULD BE) great, but you get zero media exposure at UCLA/USC. Same with Arizona/Washington/Oregon. You likely need to kill it at the pre-draft workouts to guarantee a lottery slot with the sure-fires and international dudes.

The scenery at UK is nothing special, but it's 100x better than whatever Duke is offering up. Duke's academic reputation obviously trumps UK's. Hard to go wrong with either at this point.

Why am I posting in GD like it's OKS?

Melo is still the template for one and dones.....led his team to a national title in college, entered the NBA as a day 1 star, and has had a hall of fame NBA career.

- Play in the biggest arena and in front of the biggest home crowds in all of college hoops.
- Off court distractions minimized(for a major hoops power) due to all of the cold and snow. There's no beach nearby so get your ass in the gym.
- College town/small city where ALL the attention and focus is on the school's bball team.
- Top notch facilities.
- Hall of fame coach who lets his stars(when he has them) be stars, no BS restrictive college "system" offense that some of these "look at me!" coaches insist on, but a more NBA style offense.
- Top competition in a tough conference.

In response to Reply # 0

to maybe run w/ A&T or Fayetteville State or something. not gonna happen, tho. as they get closer, i'm hearing them more linked to the traditional blue chip schools.

but if you had 3 of them, you could go somewhere and do the damn thing. but who really checking for hbcu's like that? or that 'legacy' aware? in this day and age?

low key, if somebody wanted to do that, they should go rock w/ levelle moton at nc central. he's had them cats in the ncaa and risen to national prominence as a coach. (so much so that if folks don't make that move soon i don't know how long he'll be able to continue resisting the bigger offers).

dennis smith, harry giles, kwe parker, bam adebayo. if any 2 of them went to central (which is already good), they would be virtually guaranteed to go to the big dance. and that's a good school.

decent facilities. nothing, of course, compared to the rest of their more well known tobacco road neighbors. you couldn't pay me (more) to go to UNC on a scholly until they settle their ncaa shit. which should be the death penalty.

thing is, idk how you could sell it from the perspective of the dudes not damaging their draft stock, although i understand this is why you prefaced your hyptothetical with 'guaranteed one and done'. cats like harry and dennis who are flirting with #1 in the nation status certainly fit that category.

the people in their lives would have to be making a really, really compelling case behind the scenes on this.

real talk, tho, hbcu bball ain't really popping like that. ciaa is a fashion show. yeah, they'll garner lots of love and attention. but it's more of a build it and they will come scenario. i don't think you can point to a situation right now and show that the love from folks who are just generally down w/ HBCUs would make up for the differential (in facilities, perks, etc) from going to a major bball powerhouse.

AND the off the books shit would actually be a detriment, b/c if some blue chip cat spurned duke to go to central, the full weight of ncaa investigation would be deployed like a cloud of drones on that kid trying to catch some shenanigans.

that's how the shady ass ncaa works. word to bob wade.

peace & blessings,

x.

I feel like it could completely change things if a few top prospects went to HBCU's. The NFL is different, but it's plenty that went to HBCU's and became STAR-stars. Even some recent ones, like Earl Holmes from FAMU, and Michael Strahan. With basketball, I feel the talent shows even better. Imagine a Jameis Winston trying to play at FAMU, he wouldn't look as good...but a Melo, D. Wade, Durant would still dominate against top white schools, as long as he had 2-3 other decent "2nd round quality" players with him.

But I do agree, NCAA would be on the school's heads sooooo damn tough...it would be very, very, very hard to make it work, even if nothing at all illegal was done. Like, if a player's GPA was 1.998 instead of 2.0, they'd shut the program down for ten damn years.

In response to Reply # 0

depends on "can't miss/one & done prospect". If I'm generally accepted as in the mix for a top 3 pick (like Mudiay was this year) then I go overseas. This isn't the right move for most kids because either a) they're not mentally strong enough for such a big change & b) they're not truly that highly regarded by scouts.

if I'm projected as a lottery lock, I'm going to a big time program that's going to get me a lot of TV time. I'm thinking UK/KU/Duke/UNC etc.

If folks see me as a potential lottery pick, but it's not a guarantee, I'm going to a smaller school that's still in a major conference but somewhere that i'll get plenty of time & their style fits my game.
