"# thirdworldliving"

Although, to be fair to other third world cities, we *are* scrapping the bottom of the third world barrel
Aka, perhaps this shit only happens in *this* city

# at the airport, immigration officials outdo each other to be as rude to you as can be
# dogs roaming the streets like they own this shit
#mosquitos!
#finally! Good coverage of international news on t.v
(*on that note, fkc south Carolina and those in-bred kkk’s (including those imported from n.carolina). its time to bring back the BPP.)
# you add cellphone ‘credit/minutes’ to your mobile phone in order to buy internet ‘daily bundles’
- This shit is slower than dial-up
- You bought a weekly bundle once, which was used up in a day, and never again
- ‘it swallowed my credit’ becomes a sentence that makes sense
# your main phone network line works sporadically, hence you have more than one phone number
*downloads fbmessenger, whatsapp, viber just to make sure you have options*
# children less than three years old running around barefoot, half-naked playing unsupervised (it’s a beautiful thing, these kids are fearless)
# child labour (depressing)
# the lack of concern about child labour (frustrating)
# kids walking to and from school in their brand new uniforms (uniforms are ugly, watching the kids enthusiasm brings a smile to my face)
#women breastfeeding whenever and wherever (this should be life)
#all adult women are seemingly always in three stages of reproduction; either pregnant, or breastfeeding, or getting ready to be pregnant.
#the fact that households leave covered pots of water with cups outside their gates for passersby to have a cup of water on their onward journey (little mercies)
# soldiers walking around with aka47s slung around their shoulders is a ubiquitous sight
- The fact that they are not as many as a few years ago is a sign of progress
- You can tell the ones who have been kitted out with new guns since your last visit
- You are impressed that the curfew is not being enforced and the checkpoints are fewer
# you can be arrested arbitrarily, including for ‘talking back/ badly’ #truestory
#your friends advice you to have on speed dial, the numbers of a powerful person/someone with connections, a lawyer and a doctor, just in case, for next time, if you ever do get arrested. *pause*
# you’ve ridden around in a truck full of soldiers, all the while thinking wtf is this life
# half the country is at war but we party and bullshit in the capital city
# an argument about politics is always about two minutes ahead in any conversation
#everybody’s got answers but nobody is asking the right questions
#”we liberated this country” is considered a valid way of ending said political discussions, especially when it’s contrary to the status quo/ way of thinking
# we all know national security is listening. We also know they drive the cars without number plates
#knowing the dollar exchange rate at the black market, but not the official rate
#this exchange rate tripled in the six months since you’ve been here, yet we continue to soldier on
# majority live in poverty but huge SUVs are the main mode of transport for a chosen few
#the moment you realize you and your grandkids will be paying off the debts that were taken to buy said SUVs and accommodate people in expensive hotels
#motorcycles/boda bodas are the main means of public transportation for the rest of us
#nobody you know takes public transportation and wtf is wrong with you? Hire a car
# drinking spiced tea under a tree while the tea lady and her clients regale you with funny stories
#tea options include hibiscus or fenugreek tea
#becoming one of those people who spend hours drinking numerous cups of tea under a tree while talking about ‘building the nation’
#you can spend hours ‘people-watching’
#ethiopian coffee, now *this* is life
#the local coffee, spiced with a lot of ginger- now *this* is heavenly
#food from the local restaurant tastes way better than anything you make when you are home
#not knowing how to speak the main language or mother-tongue is shameful and a pity. in fact, since most people speak at least four languages, nobody gets it.
# complaining about any and everything about this country even though you realize you will never stop coming back, regardless.

Just a touch not to overpower the coffee flavour but adds a little bite.
The trick is to do it when you're brewing not after.
Cardamom is great but too many people (ARABS) abuse it.Just a hint.
Seriously tea ladies are one of my fav things in Sudan.

i.e over a stove
(so none of that french press nonesense)
add fresh crushed ginger
(AFRICAN talks about add just a little bit, I like when it really kicks. so i'd experiment with quantity).
its completely something else.

tea and coffee here is like.. i dont know, salvation
cardamoms, cloves, cinnamon,
in fact we call unspiced, unflavoured, 'youshouldbeembrassedtobeservingthat' tea,
"chai-wewe"
(meaning tea the way its made in uganda or kenya- which is just boiling with water and nothing else.
and no self-respecting s/s/sudanese tea lady would ever serve that

when ordering in a group there are calls for no ginger, a little ginger or a lot.
Usually the tea lady says a silent fuck this and just pours in some anyway.

here sometimes they will even tell you to go somewhere else if you think they dont know how to make tea.

we are landlocked

(i think mnazi is made from coconut water, btw)
we do have palm trees but i dont think anyone ferments that
(i can ask)

recently had tej (which is ethiopian honey wine)
its really really good
i've also been trying out local brews.
we pretty much ferment anything

didn't trigger lactose intolerant reactions. Let's say I knew a guy who knew a guy who could score that uncut raw from an organic farm: I could use that to make my ice cream and not blow up the whole house?

or have any effect on this?

You would probably bomb the bathroom from bacteria your stomach isn't used to dealing with.

Why not just make desserts with lactose free milk? i'm sure you can make a good custard, i'm not so sure about ice cream.

something is definitely up

and yes i have folks who just don't like milk and aren't really intolerant

these aren't them LOL
also have those fake gluten folks

when you have to pause a trip for those stomach issues
thats when you know its real and miserable for those folks

strangely i have a sensitive stomach not for either of those things
but i definitely sympathize

oh and

#eating LOADS of cereal or bread or cheese because you know your stomach can't handle foreign foods for the most part

yes, American milk is 'processed'.

surely you remember learning about pasteurization in school. if so you may remember why the process was developed - b/c otherwise harmful bacteria will grow in the milk which tends to spoil the milk. ppl used to die from drinking milk. we don't hear of that now b/c our milk is 'processed'.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasteurization#Milk

fuck you.

and if it works from some folks
while i don't recommend a mass depasteurization
i'm thinking maybe it should be an option for some*

fully aware that folks get carried away with it like immunization
and hear folks on their panic about gluten and chlorine and monsanto
yet and still
lactose intolerance is real and if raw or organic milk works for some
it should be an available option

its not about taste
its about their bowels

yes its likely backs by moneyed folks on some less pasteurization is better craze
as long as it doesn't affect the population
let folks stomachs who could use it have that raw milk

much like the gluten craze and the fake allergic folk
folks with REAL issues are benefitting from the choice and abundance

there has to be something in the American process that adds on to the "intolerance", either that or all the hormones that the FDA claims has no side effects. I simply do not suffer the same digestive issues with milk down there that I do up here. Maybe #thirdworldstomachs are hereditary, perhaps?

i've used baby wipes and disliked them b/c they left my ass feeling wet or moist afterward. i assume a bidet will leave me feeling the same way. and so i have no interest. plus i'm pretty adept at wiping my ass w/just tp (no streaks!) so i don't feel the need to use a bidet.

Went straight up to that dog pet him and gave him the you ain't shit look. Who's scared of a collie?

#People trying to pickpocket you constantly.

#The bootleg market near the unqlo store changing prices during the times foreigners show up and charging US dollars for merchandise.

Keep it mind it cost them less than 1/4 the amount they're charging to make those goods.

#Street food vendors right outside of commercial foreign restaurants.
#Street food vendor not changing their water for 12 hours.

#Citizens of the country constantly trying to scheme on you thinking you're not up on game.

#Constantly being watched/stared at by citizens.

#That moment when you realize all forms of communication to your home country are blocked via firewall and the scramble to find a VPN is frightening.

#Finding out just how far the power of the dollar gets you.

#Seeing child soldiers with AK-47s happy as shit to be wearing the BDU.

#The immediate rush everyone makes to get on the train and then pack in tight as shit. I'm talking 500 deep in a subway car.

#Realizing every restaurant overcharges guests and adds non traditional fees. By the way there's nothing you can do about it.

#Getting off the plane, walking outside, and wondering why fog covers the entire city not realizing that's pollution...

#Child labor shocked me.

#Bootleg market having everything. Matter of fact the scope of the bootleg market. There's the Wal-Mart of bootlegs near the Unqlo store, then the bootleg DVD store near, the Apple store... all within 700 feet of each other.
