What's a good source for the hardware? I'm talking neat joinery bits, screws, etc....

Think custom Ikea..

If you are really tryna go there... hit up a real lumber yard do some research on best wood for the application and cut everything yourself..

If you dont have the tools... there might be local community wood shops that do have em

Edit: also make sure you get good plans.. using screws in the wrong place might result in squeaks that could've been avoided

I'd like to find somewhere with a CNC that can cut it into the shapes I need though. How do you even search for that?

Basically i'm trying to build this: http://www.oeufnyc.com/index.php/furniture/perch-loft-bed.html

anyways lol...
I've had them mess THAT up before.

I'd need 8 identically shaped pieces of wood. Like...precision cut within 1/32" tolerance I believe.

Their machines can be up to 1/8" off and depending on the actual person cutting shit could be crooked

But I don't think they have any sort of walk-in style setup where you can just go do something real quick for a personal project....

There's also The Tech Shop in Crystal City (www.techshop.ws) ... but their websit is bugging right now. Might just have to roll up in person and check them out.

What is your exact budget?

Is this for a kid or an adult?

What is your timeline/free time for this project looking like?

Budget is a reasonable goal for me. I know good quality 3/4" plywood is at least going to run me $40/sheet at least...and more like $80. And i'm estimating needed at least 6 sheets.

>What is your exact budget?
>
>Is this for a kid or an adult?

Both.... the idea is to have a loft bed in my daughter's room that can be used by her grandma and cousins or whoever when they come visit (small house, no extra guest room, and sleeping on the pullout is getting to be a nuisance when grandma comes to visit.) So...ideally, it'll be something my daughter will grow into. Right now she sleeps in a toddler bed.

Ideally....need it by the last week in August.

Furniture grade plywood is actually going to go a bit higher. You could for the so so stuff but then you are dealing with a higher void count and a rougher surface which would mean more work on your part (lots of sanding) to get a good surface.

Where are you located? If you are in an area that had a Macbeaths then I would look there over going to a Home Depot. Construction grade ply is a bit different from furniture grade stuff. You can mix and match the stuff depending on the use. Good stuff for touch surfaces and the lower quality stuff for hidden areas

Do you have any photoshop/illustrator skills? What about Google sketch? I ask because cnc places tend to have a preferred file format for producing cuts

Is this going to be built in or do you want to be able to break it down and reassemble as needed?

to have the product that would work for me. It's BB grade, which should be sufficient for the look i'm going for. Here's a link to the product i'm looking at: http://www.woodworkerssource.com/34balpack3.html

They're calling it furniture grade, but the face is not "finish grade". Not too big of a deal since I'm going for a semi-rustic look anyway. What's your take on their offering based on the description they've included?

I'm in the DMV, Arlington,VA to be specific. Def. not going to home depot! I got a sheet of mahogany faced ply for a woodworking class I took a few years ago from this spot down in Springfield.....i'll likely check them out again too...but it was $99 for standard sheet...which was kinda pricey IMO.

Did you see the link of the piece i'm trying to replicate? It's a pretty basic form from my estimate.
>

AutoCAD. I think most of them should take .cad files right? But I just don't know how to actually find a place . The place I took the woodworking class doesn't have one.

>Is this going to be built in or do you want to be able to
>break it down and reassemble as needed?

Ideally, it'll be similar to your basic flat-pack style furniture...ala Ikea... So i'd like to be able to break it down if necessary. I just don't know the name of those types of fasteners that are used in that kind of furniture. I'm having a hard time googling stuff because I don't know all the technical terms.

dowels are pain in the asshole

if you do go with dowels then you have to use an OVER/UNDER index to get them to fit right plus using a doweling jig plus using dowel centers plus a drill press or a drill press adapter for your gun
