I just read that the Downtown Pittsburgh Macys is closing because Macy's is selling the building. The store only occupied the first 3 or for floors of an 8 story building. They were originally going to try to sell the upper floors, but ultimately decided to sell the whole thing.

I was initially saddened, because I like downtown department stores. They I realized that I don't really fuck with dept stores.

I bought my ex girlfriend something there that didn't fit plus I got one as a gift so I somehow wound up with $340 in gift cards and store credit there. I sold the shit on eBay and put $315 in my pocket when all was said and done. It's astonishing the portion of the value people will pay for gift cards. I guess they know they are going to buy something, so they consider it found money. If the total is real high then it's not as easy. A guy had a $500 Under Armour gift card and I offered him $375 for it, he countered with $415 but then it sold for $440. That's still pretty good if you had no intention of spending it.

Macy's to me has gone downhill and shit like Sears and JC Penney I always found weird. Occasionally I will make a purchase at Sears because they sent one of those $15 off $15 or more in the mail. I can't turn down something free so I'll get some small appliance or pillow or other such cheesy little thing.

no, a department store doesn't have to sell housewares. it just has to sell a range of items in different categories or departments.

In addition to clothes, they sold toys, housewares, appliances, and furniture. Macys, Sears, JCP still sell that stuff. Target and Wal-Mart are modern equivalents. Barney's is a clothing store.

It sells shoes, jewelry, cosmetics and bedding too.

That's the only department store that I frequent. From dress clothes to something to throw on casual attire, I'm in there.

I'm all about building up them points to get that money back. And honestly, being here in Baltimore, it's really the only one we have. Macy's is cool for Polo gear and the occasional sale but Nordstroms is all we got.

otherwise nah. Only if something I want is on sale and I cant find it cheaper online.
