"Ever had/contributed to a honeymoon fund? What were your thoughts?"

I'm questioning the appropriateness of it. I don't want to be tacky and straight asking for money seems tacky.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

So I'm monitoring it and instead of making tiered purchases some people are buying a lot of items. Which is appreciated. But you don't want people feeling ass out for not giving a gift.

As we really don't need more things, there are some things that'd be nice to have funded.

People brought cash or checks to the wedding. We used the money for what we wanted. I thought that was pretty commonplace these days.

There's no real difference btwn me giving y'all money directly vs spending the exact same amount on a registry gift.

Make sure someone you trust holds the money tho lol.

waaay more common and accepted.

I say go for it.

As long as you present the request in a tasteful fashion. Explain you reasoning in a practical and thoughtful way so that folks understand that ultimately it's what will be appreciated by you all the most.

My only beef with it is if they take the money but don't follow through. My friend got married last year and they had a registry website set up with all of these specific items you could sponsor for their honeymoon in the tropics. I paid for one night in some eco-resort, not too expensive. I saw my friend a couple months ago and asked how their resort stay was, and he was like "Oh yeah, we ended up not doing that".

I know it shouldn't matter what they did with my money- if it went to good use, that's great. I just felt weird about it because their registry page was so specific about what I was funding, and then he was so casual about it later.

People tend to be more generous when they know where their money is going. At the same time, people return stuff from a registry all the time.

there are websites specially designed for people to make donations & write a message, even with options for not saying the amount they contributed. i haven't been to a single wedding among my friends that had a registered gift list.

I'm there to support them. I'll spend as much as I would spend on a gift to them either way.

I'm happy to let them decide what's important to them rather than force my perspective on them at an event thats supposed to be about THEM, not me.

Just IMO though.

Instead of gifts
I think that's how it worked
I couldn't make it to the wedding so I paid for them
To go on a sunset cruise
I'm all for my money going towards something
You will both enjoy
Especially if you already live together
What else is there to buy?

To open for money. They said they felt bad penny pinching on gifts (we didn't put any expensive things on the registry) and would help others too if we put more on.

I'm still conflicted, but feeling better.

We lived together in sin for 7 years or so and had created a houshold already, so we didnt need any gifts per se

so on our wedding invites we stated as much and politely asked (how do u politely ask for moola lol?) for cash of possible

not that it was specifically for the honeymoon as we already had it booked and paid for

im guessing most of you haven't seen them. It's not like a kickstarter where you just give any amount you want. They literally put every part of the honeymoon on the list and you fund different aspects of it. Let's say they are going to a resort...parts of it will be the actual trip (flight/hotel) but then they put in things like a 1hr jet ski tour or a massage session...etc. seems kinda odd to me. Rather just give you loot and let you decide what to do with it. I don't need to know every detail of the shit.
