So I have a friend I made in Dubai when the terrible event of me losing my passport occurred. He helped me out by giving me his apartment for two nights and some cash while I sorted out getting a new passport.

He and I have been in touch every since (Now 2 years) and we text quite often, at least once a week. I do really like him too. But he lives in Dubai so our conversations are really just friend-like though I know he finds me attractive. So the trip could be romantic or just two friends? Who knows... I haven't seen him two years and even then I only really hung out with him 3 times.

Well He's going to Thailand and he's offered for me to come. He says if I get my plane ticket, he'll pay for everything else. I myself have been trying to plan a trip to Thailand for damn near 2 years! I really want to go.

Here's my dilemma; 1. Short notice - The plane ticket is roughly $1,3k and I would be leaving next week.

Technically I could definitely get my money up for that ticket; however my temporary passport that I was given in Dubai has now expired. I need to get a new passport (expedited fee), and I would have to find someone to watch my cat ($$). Not to mention I need to get some braids put in my head because this 28''s of hair is not going to cut it in Thailand. That's a lot of money to have in less than a week. My money would be SUPER tight coming home.

However, if I were to go another time the cost would be similar or more minus having to pay to get my passport expedited. Plus I would have to pay for everything else if I went another time (hotel, food, excursions, transportation between islands).

2. I also don't know if I could get the time off from work. I was thinking maybe I could make up an excuse and use my sick pay?

3. I applied for another job last week that I feel I have a really good chance of getting. In my head I was thinking I could use sick pay to leave and have money when I come home. But if I take the new job I want I would need to start July 1st. I wouldn't return from Thailand until the 28th which means I wouldn't be able to give them a two weeks notice.

If I give them two weeks notice then I wouldn't get paid until I got paid from my new job which lord knows how long that would take!

I don't know... I would not be in the same industry anymore and I really don't like my current job. I think about quitting daily. So I'm torn about giving them notice, the ONLY thing is I like my "new" boss. Even me playing sick I know would put her in a tight spot. Me leaving for this new job would put her in a tight spot too tho. I'm just really not happy here.


Damn I want to go SOOOOOOO bad but I have a feeling I shouldn't go. I hate to ask him to pay for my plane ticket too. I don't know if he has the money to. I told him my dilemma, and he suggested I wait until the end of the week when I'm supposed to hear from the new job. He said we'll figure out a plan...

If I don't get the new job I hope me skipping out for a week and a half doesn't get me fired. Though I was thinking of a family member being in a horrible accident. They can't fire me for that right? I would pray really hard about it. lol

Like dude gave me his entire apartment, PLUS the equivalent of $400 U.S and that was just so I could eat and as he said go to the mall or something. He could've came back home and killed me! I could've robbed him blind!

I told my mom, and she even she was like, "Fuck it, go!". She said if he was going to kill you, you'd be dead.

I'm less worried about him than I am that $$$.


On the cost, I hear you too. But we will be island hopping. The hotel for 10 days wont be that damn cheap, and yes everything else probably will be fucking cheap. But he will also be paying for transportation. My flight from Bangkok to Phucket included. But I definitely HEAR you because that is the thing with Thailand, the flight is more expensive than anything.


As I said, I'm not going more than likely. Like you said, I should stack my money. I just won't have the time off to go either. lol

For real, as I said before I'm probably still not going to go because of the job situation but I do really want to.

I really have no doubts in the man, but when you broke that shit down... Yea my plane ticket is the entire fucking trip. If I were to go in let's say November the ticket would be $800 maybe lower if I caught a deal.

If it weren't for the job thing, I'd be out. I always travel last minute. I went to Egypt last minute, Paris last minute, and Rome last minute. I always try to get people to go and they cop out. If I hear about someone going, I just jump on.

If not for having to lie to your job about taking time off, I'd say totally go. I'm all about that YOLO life these days. Even if it's somewhat financially irresponsible. But having to concoct lies to your job seems like too much work and maybe it's not the best time to do the trip. You sure you can't just be like, "This once in a lifetime opportunity came up, find someone to cover my work while I'm gone" and bounce legitimately?
