What is Fox Hills now? I remember shopping there with my mom as a kid. I remember Del Amo being my favorite because they had that Boardwalk Fries place.
I recently took my mom down to DTLA, she hadn't been in a long time. it was one of the first places she lived when she immigrated from Mexico as a young girl in the late 60s
she really tripped out how much cleaner, the amount of whites walking, and the new development

Hell, yesterday I ordered a palm tree in El Segundo. For delivery, I told him it's L.A. city, but 7-8 miles away. He said "West L.A. near Culver City?" I said nah, maybe two miles east of The Forum...he said "ohh...Inglewood...ok we can do that."
If I had been like "Two blocks from where Reginald Denny got that ass tizzapped" he woulda said "sorry, that's outside of our boundaries"

I've heard "East Village" my whole life and don't think it's dated. I can't think of too much dated shit in Philly or L.A., maybe the odd old-timer's reference ("meet me at the eagle") or some shit but nothing like what's described in the OP
