If she was 4-5, sure. But all the two year olds I know have an uncontrollable energy. If she was cussing, or saying "NO!!! Shut up!!!" then that's one thing. Her saying "too loud!" is even a good sign, because some parents don't tell their kids to lower their voices enough.

have someone on standby in case the kid starts acting like a kid.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

The kid at the presser was probably the best thing at a non-Popovich NBA press conference in seasons.

In response to Reply # 78

"We did things well. They fought hard, but our shots went in. We still need to improve. Player X came up huge today." etc.

It's the SAME FUCKING ANSWERS EVERY SINGLE TIME. Unless someone blows the fuck up at a presser, or someone brings an adorable kid to liven the proceedings, the press conferences are always and will always be insanely worthless.

So if you watch a press conference, cool. It's your team. I get it. You wanna revel, see what they say. Then don't be an asshole when a cute kid starts doing something out of the usually insanely monotonous norm.

not just b/c corporal punishment is always wrong but b/c in this case she didn't behave in a manner that deserved punishment. Steph brought her to the press conference - if anyone is to be punished for her behavior it's him b/c he could've left her in someone else's care.

fuck you.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

mandatory that players aren't allowed to bring their child(ren) or any other family member to the podium during the post game interview

So many players have been doing this in the playoffs after the gm and it wasn't an issue...until that one child started to act like a child

I'm sure media members have spoken out abt this today

won't have any bearing on the league in regards to making a ruling on players and post game interviews - State Farm is Steph's endorsement

I have a feeling they're going to stop this before it really gets out of hand - I've heard too many ppl complaining abt this today for the league to dismiss it or even embrace it as possibly something good for Steph/league

State Farm sponsors NBA broadcasts on ESPN and TNT. Not only that, they're partners with more than 20 NBA teams & they sponsor content on ESPN.com and Bleacher Report.

As someone said above, all it would've took is for that little girl to fall and start crying or have the table fall on her and we're having a totally different conversation today...

whining about Curry bringing his kid to a presser. b/c nothing bad happened. and she was cute.

the story is being reported like - she stole the show, some unreasonable journalists bitched about it and one of them even deleted his bitchy-ass tweet.

^ that's it. no one w/sense is complaining about her being at the presser.

(Dress code/hack-a-whoever/wearing non-NBA paraphernalia)

Or even post game interviews when the league made it mandatory for players/coaches to do halftime and post game interviews because so many players/coaches were skipping out on talking to the press...especially after a tough loss

Most fans couldn't care less abt post game interviews but the media does...and it's mostly members of the media complaining abt it today...

Maybe they won't rule on this right now...but if it continues to happen I could see them making it mandatory that players come to the post game interviews alone

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Steph Curry's Daughter
NBA Not Banning Kids
After 2-Year-old Hijacks Presser
5/20/2015 2:35 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The NBA is NOT giving in to the reporters griping about Steph Curry's adorable daughter -- telling TMZ Sports there are NO immediate plans to ban kids from postgame pressers.

2-year-old Riley Curry stole the show Tuesday night when Steph brought her to the podium following Golden State's Game 1 victory over the Houston Rockets ... and she hammed it up like a champ!

Several members of the media bitched that Riley's antics made it difficult for reporters to do their jobs ... including two big shots from ESPN -- Brian Windhorst and Skip Bayless.

But we spoke with NBA Sr. VP of Communications Tim Frank who tells us there is no current policy against players bringing their kids to the podium ... and there are no plans to change it, despite the criticism.

By the way, we also reached out to multiple children's talent agencies who tell us they LOVED Riley -- and think she displayed real "star quality" last night.

Just sayin' ...

fuck you.

Steph Curry's 2-year-old daughter has sparked the dumbest sports controversy

By Nina Mandell May 20, 2015 11:51 am ET

Hours after Riley Curry, adorable daughter of Steph Curry, stole the show at the NBA MVP’s postgame press conference an incredibly strange controversy took over the internet.

A few writers, who apparently were worried about making their deadlines (though as former friend of For The Win Adi Joseph points out it was an early game), complained that kids shouldn’t be allowed on the podium because it’s a waste of time, stops their parents from answering tough questions, is a shield, etc etc.

And maybe it is. Or maybe, after being on the road for half of the season, dads really just want to hang out with their kids. Here at For The Win, it’s something we celebrate — they’re buzzy, cute moments that remind us that sports are supposed to be fun and there’s more to athletes than just what they do on the court. In fact, it’s something that’s been going on for years — much to the delight of most of us. It’s something that even the NBA happily markets via their own social channels.

Take, for example, Chris Paul’s son, who has made so many appearances that he’s included in his dad’s endorsement deals:

Or when Kyle Lowry’s son came out following the Raptors’ season-ending game last season:

He ate a microphone, which was likely detrimental to deadlines as well.

To be clear, most sportswriters who spoke out on Twitter were in agreement: Riley was adorable, an amusing addition to what would have been a routine press conference where her dad — who is usually better at answering questions than many — probably wouldn’t have given incredible insight anyway. It’s sort of hard to explain in words anything that happened in an NBA playoff game other than to say something about the team working together, which is what Curry said.

As much of the stress of the season is wearing on the players though, maybe it’s just wearing on the people covering them as well. Deadlines are increasingly frequent and competition is harder in this industry every day. To have to push aside the fun moments might more be a statement on the industry of sports journalism than the actual issue of kids on the podium. But unless you’re one of the 30 people in sports journalism who are reading this, that’s not what you care about right?

So let’s stop debating about whether there should be a rule against this or not. And just live a little more in the spirit of Riley Curry.

fuck you.

daughter/son to certain settings like conducting a job interview or business meeting or maybe a yoga class etc..

Oh and I'd include post game interviews too

It's cute, I get it...but I think the league will be aight if they rule next season that players don't bring their kids to the pressers. No one will lose sleep over it...players been coming to the post gm interviews w/o their kids for yeeeeears, trust me

this isn't an interview for a job or some Japanese zen garden retreat.

it's journalist asking stupid ass questions about a game they just watched.

back and forth over this - in the end it doesn't matter if it matters to Steph...it's what the league/commissioner decide

As I said the NBA already gave a statement saying they aren't going to do anything immediately but that they'll take a look at this in the off season which means the league won't allow it next season

And it we won't have to concern ourselves w/kids being at the post gm press conference and no one will care one bit that we will no longer see kids chilling at the press conference w/their NBA fathers

>the reason he brought her is because he doesn't give a shit

this man who probably hadn't really had five minutes with his baby all day just wanted a moment with his kid.

it was cute...

in reality he probably did in an effort to cut the press conference short.

it was cute, it was funny and if you're dying on deadline then take your ass to the locker room where you can do things at your own pace. i never get the people who are antsy during podium stuff. podium stuff takes a while, shit sometimes people ask questions in more than one language even. you want a crash and bang job, hit the locker room and figure it out. never leave your story hanging on one person either. one team i covered, i wrote around quoting their *head coach* for the better part of a season.

Of all people, you know that the after game presser is part of the job, mandatory part of the NBA players' day. There is no reason to bring your child to work with you, even if they are "cute" or "adorable". This just attention whore-ing for the players of these sports leagues, and once an athlete goes too far with it, leagues will stop it.

Then "bring your kids to work day" happens, and Mom or Dad have an important conference or appointment, the kids aren't running the conference room making noise and distracting the parent while he/she is closing the big deal. They are either in another part of the building in the care of another person or not at the job at all, because business comes first at work. That could just as easily have happened in this case.

Though it is overstated at times, those "wack sportswriters" getting those "perfect cliche quotes" are what helps drive publicity for the leagues, and that causes revenue. That revenue increases player salaries, which is why the leagues mandate they take the podium. The league knows the importance of the post game pressers, if the players don't...

Ticket sales? BWAHAHAHAHA

TV Contracts; I'm pretty sure that a good number of the reporters at the pressers are from ESPN,TNT,TBS, CBS Sportsnet, FOXSports, Comcast Sportsnet, and a slew of regional cable networks, so...

no, baby. i meant TV broadcast contracts.

and those broadcasters get exclusive sideline access, love. they get to talk to players and coaches DURING the games and at half-time and pre-game and post-game...on the court (or field, depending). yes, they're also at the post-game pressers. however the post-game pressers are of much less importance to fans and even to the broadcasters compared to that exclusive sideline/dugout/lockerroom access they get w/their broadcast contracts. which is why i routinely see TV broadcasts cut away from post-game press coverage after having aired maybe a minute of it. unless they expect some major announcement they treat those things like an afterthought...based on what they air, i mean. when they show post-game pressers it's usually on some post-game analysis show - possibly on a lower-tier channel (like ESPNNews vs. ESPN).

anyway, i agree that the league overstates the importance of the post-game presser. and you put a lil much on them too, it seems. but it's all good...the NBA has said it won't change any rules based on Curry bringing Riley to that recent presser. and i doubt many players will bring their kids in the future.

fuck you.

If everyone were doing it all the time, I'd be kinda pissed. But they're not. I can count on one hand the number of times I ran into it. I remember one of the Bruins guys having his kids up there after they won the Stanley Cup. One time I saw Chris Paul's kid, I remember Boudreau's youngest once. That's about it. And it's not like the kids aren't around, I see them in the locker rooms and lounges all the time, guys just don't take them to the podium.

Yeah, the time is tight, yeah, it can create some minor lag or distraction, but overall I welcome something different in the routine and I'm not going to wag my finger at some toddler or his parent ... yet.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

After a championship, on the field celebrating...ok, I can deal with that. After a playoff game, Game One, when there is business to take care of, when daddy will be home in a few minutes....not necessary IMO,and at the podium is the point. The league mandates the appearance at the podium, and it's not like the child's caregiver during the 2+ hour game couldn't wait another 15 minutes.

Are there any real honest answers???

95% of people could answer the questions asked the same way the players do, it just feels like a way to make these sport journalist feel important, like what they are asking really matters...

All they do is read off some stats, talk about how aggressive they were, and much trust their teammates had in them....

In essence all they are doing is saying I'm just saying what I need to say so I don't get fined...

"Fuck this shit man"

i think there is very little self importance in pressers, mostly it's just a rush and a prayer that things come out right on both ends. you have already written your story and now you just need to re-work it around what's said, and *fast*. you've got anywhere between 5 and 50 minutes usually after a game to file, depending on the situation.

you've got to support assertions and you've got to make the subject communicate with the reader, period. sometimes it's lame as fuck. you get bold-faced lied to some nights. you get white lies almost every night or at least a censored version of the truth.

but sometimes you don't. sometimes you get jim mora or dennis green or allen iverson or teemu selanne or tommy lasorda. some nights you get magic, and you're not only there, you're actually involved in it. cooler than watching the game at home, believe that.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

And then, you'd risk her really being two, and getting on the mic and saying "but daddy, you told me to talk the whole time and grab this microphone!" Maybe not in those words, but close enough for a 2 year old.

She just got that IDGAF in her bloodstream, just like he does when he made Chris Paul breakdance.

...even without the kid there. They're not serious and sacred events; they're cures for insomnia. The fact I'd prefer a Drake song performed by a two-year old shows how they're exercises in tedium.

184. "so why bring a child the most boring shit ever?"
In response to Reply # 180

its not entertaining for the child. its work for you. and a distraction for everyone else. especially considering the press conferences are a medium for journalist. as a journalist...i bet press conferences aren't the most boring things ever. they're informative. and depending on what you can get out of them...its how you make your bread.

why does she have to be there?

Yeah, they're 100% percent the opposite of this. I had every single one on in the background post-game, and they're the equivalent to white noise.

There's a reason why "Both team played hard, dawg" was a thing and why Marshawn Lynch held the whole endeavor in contempt.

>why does she have to be there?

To liven things up? If I had the choice to listen to my two-year old daughter playing around and answering 99.9% of the questions asked at those things, I'd pick my daughter everytime. I'm surprised more people don't guy the Don Nelson route and drink openly during the questions.

i'd assume if you have an article to write, you might want to pay attention to the press conference.

In response to Reply # 186

All of them. And every single journalist knows it. That's why "THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!" AND "PLAY-OFFS?!? PLAY-OFFS?!?!?!?!" and Steph Curry's daughter become a big deal: they're welcome changes from the absolute inane monotony of "All credit to the _______, they played a hell of game" and "We just worked hard and hit our shots."

...it'd still be more interesting than anything he'd say otherwise.

I'm only here because I'm incredulous that there are people seriously defending the sanctity of post game press conferences.
