So alot of you remember the first Sunday Chill Sessions. It was my first podcast that started on this very website. You guys have been awesome over the years supporting me and giving me props and I appreciate it. I love all music but I'm a house head at heart. Please click the link above and tell me what you think. Tracklisting is also on the link above.
surprsingly the cops (or rather the cop) that was there was SUPER COOL he was courteous to everyone and even cracked jokes with people
he wore a sargeant polo which means people didn't realize he was popo and they started smoking herb right in the street smh. he didn't flip then either. i thought he'd call his boys and make everyone disperse
people really thought we were going to restart the party but that was not going to happen. we werent going to kick people out who were already inside though. people finished drinks, talked, finished food, and bounced
we (organizers) left right before 8pm. i drowned my sorrows at bed vyne cocktails. we did not restart the party. i saw someone post around 10pm that the spot reopened which it did, because it had a party booked after us. i actually know one of the DJs spinning that party and i would have felt even worse if NYPD and FDNY shut the party down and fined the place. that means they'd have been closed for days.
seriously, THANK YOU to everyone who came. we've been trying to find a larger venue for years. lots of places people have suggested have flat out told us no, or have asked for thousands of dollars in rental fees and crazy bar guarantees, which we really can't afford. charging for the party is an option but a very final one. we also warned the shit out of this venue that this party would be crackin and they really didn't take us seriously. understaffing all around. at least the bar looked like they could kinda keep up but that food area was pitiful. they finally got some more kitchen staff to do food prep.
we have a couple of new venue options we can explore and yesterday's venue loved us despite all this so i imagine theyre going to want to try to make this work with other measures so we'll see.
venue hunting has always been hard for us: from DAF to Makossa. venues don't believe we bring a cool chill crowd. they always hit us w/ the backward ass compliments. "omg your crowd was soooo nice! so well behaved!" UGH. only venue NOT to do that was brooklyn bowl. they were just like 'you're awesome'.
we don't see our party being so popular that we get shut down/people have to wait in line as a good thing. because we want folks inside. but the kind of space we need for this kind of party: large indoor and outdoor(ish) space is not easy to find in this city. especially the way rents are now. no one's dedicating huge amounts of space that they have to pay rent on that is only usable 4 months out of the year.
20. "yeah if they start charging, it might scale the crowd back some..." In response to Reply # 19
this will in no way really affect the impact this party has, I still think it would be a hit and full of ppl, it would just deter some of the people from coming. Or free until a certain time then charge more at like 5 (when it gets really popping).
I couldn't get in, got there RIGHT when they shut it down but some of my friends had been in line for 1.5 hours (which really sucks for them but thankfully the weather wasn't bad). I felt bad for the ppl who took the train tho...all that way on the L would have had me mad but I understand.
But this just speaks to the growth of the party. Another alternative may be to have more than 4 parties in the summer. Go up to 6. two in june and july. extra parties would break up the crowds too.
