I miss the fuck outta Amy Winehouse. I'm very curious to see this documentary. Out July 3rd in the UK, (and who knows when in the US, but never fear --torrents.), it's supposed to use a whole lot of never before seen footage, and interviews with over 100 people who knew the Beehive queen, to piece together a life taken by the 27 club. Mitch Winehouse is pissed, threatening a lawsuit it would seem, because of how he is portrayed by the film -- money hungry and fame chasing. I don't know if that's true or not, I never kept up with or cared about his exploits... but hit dogs yelp, right?
A couple trailers out. Number 2 seems to feature an unheard song... which just makes me miss her more.
I wonder where that song came from and it makes me curious to see if they'll delve into the final years when the reports kept coming out that she was in the Caribbean, recording for the BTB follow up. The releases that have come since her death have all been unfinished demos that have been cleaned up. So it makes me question how factual those recording reports actually were.

Mitch has only recently changed his tune. Says his portrayal will negatively impact the foundation... which he profits from. So... it seems their portrayal of him might not be far off.

>this spectatorial circus around her addiction already felt so >exploitative i don't really want to participate in it after >her death.
I feel the same way.
i kind of felt this way after awhile when watching the Cobain documentary, once they started getting into the private videos with Kurt and Courtney, but for the most part I thought the doc was great, but just sad.

i liked the focus on her songwriting and seeing all these familiar songs. a nice emphasis on frank songs but not much on the back story. i imagine it's b/c dude who inspired it didnt want to talk or they didn't ask him to?
it was annoying that they used ppl's voices instead of their faces a lot
but its clear that mad people weren't looking out for her and they should have. even something a simple as security. all this footage of paps attacking her and she has no handler, no one really trying to protect her just walking down the street. paps bumping into her trying to get a shot of her. no one blocking their view or providing distance for her. she was a little bitty thing.
they withheld information until later like it was supposed to be a bombshell which i also didn't like

While as a massive fan of her music, I do appreciate the added insight into her early years and artistic process, the film definitely feels invasive. The way the paparazzi shots done really gives you a sense of the torment that those people were to her. And that amount of attention while she was going through what she was going through made the problem that much worse. And seeing so, so many people put their own wants in front of Amy's needs was fucking tragic.
