someone on my level or below I'll take as a compliment.
The above assumes there's no obvious flirting going on.

I never care for it when my current manager does it. It's usually casual here, so polos and slacks are my regular deal. When we have clients around, I'll break out a shirt and tie and look better than they do. So whenever I hear the 'you look nice' comment, I always think 'What, I'm not supposed to? Or can't?"

and their is something wrong with the people complaining. I am just saying, look at this poll. A majority of people say they always love it. A couple of people say they always hate it. Based on that (and of course its not a proper sampling but for the sake of argument) should you stop saying it though the majority likes it but a few hate it?
Really just asking. Trying to think this through.

hate it as glass half empty grumps but u never know ppl's personal history or any workings, i guess u just have to study body language and tone in the response of someone u say it too and if they seem skeeved just not say it to *them* again
i dont think reactions like that, of a minority of ppl, should stop it from being said
i can say for me i only say when i really mean it

I guess this is what it comes down to because I never worried about these issues when i was younger but as I become older and work around younger people who are junior to me, I don't want to be that guy you describe.
