"Bring Your Kid To Work Day"

yes i get the concept of this day....i really do. and yes i think it's great that kids can see where their parents work. and yes i think it takes a village and we need to be more blahblahblah as a community.

with that said....i don't have any kids. i want kids, but i LIKE not having any kids. you know why....cause kids fuck up whatever you want to do. you can't operate on single whims when you have kids. everything is a chore and a project. simple shit like lunch. and quiet. these concepts become much too difficult with children.

so this whole take your kids to work day becomes a day where people who intentionally don't have kids are inconvenienced cause people with kids think its fun and cool to share their world. share their work world with their kids...and share their home life with their coworkers. and they're wrong. its not fun and cool to be inconvenienced. i'm dealing with it, cause you can't be the mad, single childless guy nowadays and i don't plan on being like that forever. i'm not really like that now...i like kids. but not at my fucking job. not running up and down the office hallways. i seriously wanna hand out whoopings. or at least some 'sit down and you better not say shit's. it took me 45 minutes to get my lunch from the cafeteria downstairs, cause it was filled with children and their children cooties.

bless their hearts. but you gotdamn parents....ya'll need to keep this life to yourselves.

But I never understood that shit. Parent take them to work and have them sit in their cubicle bored with absolutely nothing to do for the next 8 hours. So they are going to to annoy you and everyone around you because they do not want to be there. I would consider bringing my son if he was 15 or 16 and mature enough to handle a day at work with me. But now way in hell would I bring a 5 year old or even 10 year old to work with me. It makes no sense. If you want a child that age to learn about where you work. Have your spouse bring them to pick you up one day. At the end of your day walk him around and show him where you sit and what you do for 30 minutes.

i just went and checked it out. they have all the kids in the auditorium doing fun stuff. what that stuff is i couldn't tell you cause i high-tailed it outta there, but it seemed like a lot of fun and noise.

but when they get done with all that fun and noise...they're super wound up. i'm sure there was candy involved, cause these are unnatural levels of excitement. and then your release all that excitement from the auditorium to the office and....yeah.

i think Paul Rudd said it on Knocked Up, I wish I liked anything like my kids love bubbles. Get kids around a bunch of other kids is equal to giving them blow. When I drive my son to school we are just chilling listening to music. As soon as I pull up in front of that school and he sees his friends he is rolling down the window yelling out to them. Then sprints outta the car to go play. Like he hasnt seen them in weeks.

I've always liked being around kids...they can surely be annoying at times, but just their upbeat attitudes, the funny random shit they say, how easily they are impressed, their awkwardness, all that is great to me.

They're all here at my job now, and it's cool. One year, my boss' son did see me as the "young cool Black guy" so he was all in my computer and asking a million questions, but I didn't mind it. I figured I was able to set a good example for him, since I was a bit closer to his age than his dad.

I love my son and love being around my son. But fuck other peoples kids. Other peoples kids are fucking rude and annoying. I love my oldest niece(3) but sometimes I dont want to be around her because she is a brat and her parents allow her to be that way. I used to think how awesome it would be to coach my sons little league teams but just helping out on occasion at practice drives me nuts. 9 kids on the team and 6 of them are whiney, rude, and dont listen at all. I want to physically harm 3 of them every damn practice.

the patience and don't mind em.

I even worked as an after school counselor ten years ago...it was plenty fun. There were a few knuckleheads, but I was quick to put them in their place. Or I'd even threaten to take them to "the hood in L.A." since it was Florida...they would get shook immediately LOL

and we each had rolls for the party. i....was the Greet Master. friendly, jovial, let me grab you a drink. that was me. i'm there to make sure that everyone has a good time. my boy...be was the Behavior Modifier. he used to walk around with this big ass wooden staff looking thing. he would admonish people for not being clean and was generally paranoid about people fucking up the house in the slightest way.

but we made a great party throwing team. you need great masters. but you also need behavior modifiers.

it should be a regular work day. you should maybe see them for 5 minutes, but all the running around and shit...that's not productive.

In response to Reply # 0

Also, Bring Your Kid to Work Day is a fucking travesty. This was originally Bring Our Daughters To Work because girls had no concept of the workplace. It was to promote the idea that girls could have careers, too. Fuck a kid.

Cats are so territorial that it's unlikely they'd be comfortable at the office. Dogs, on the other hand, do not gaf where they are, which is why you see dog-friendly workplaces but not cat-friendly ones.

Plus if my cats were here they'd miss out on some very important nap times and wouldn't be able to keep me awake at night.

My cat I think would be okay, she's very social and adventurous. She lands somewhere new and she explores. She's not like other cats that tend to get scared and hide.

I remember when I first brought her home, the vet said she would more than likely be under my bed the first few days. HA! She was EVERYWHERE!! Doing donuts in the living room and sleeping on my back the first night.

cause there's this 3 year old 'igglet-nae' who's doing way too much. she's the only child who's been consistently annoying. and her mom is young, so i think everyone is giving her parenting skills the side-eye.

is three too young tho?

moreso than with the kids. people are allergic to pets. to think your dog or cat is more important that that is ridiculous.

but most parents don't give a fuck, cause its your life and your life has kids. who cares....whatever. but just cause you're used to disruptions in your life doesn't mean its as innocent as you'd liek to believe.

when i went to work with my aunt* when i was 14 it was definitely
'bring your daughter to work' day.
and it was boring as shit. my aunt sells computers for IBM
(well used to i'm pretty sure she recently retired or she's about to)
and while she was doing work me and my lil cousin just were on the internet
this was pre-okp and before i discovered hip hop battle boards lol
so i don't even know what the hell i looked at on there
best part of the day was going to the mall for lunch
(the office was directly behind a mall)

*we went with my aunt bc both my cousins parents are teachers and my dad is a teacher and my mom is a nurse.
i don't know if hospitals are allowed to do this but she worked nights so it was a naw
and who wants to go to school when you're trying to get out of school? lol
