"Poll question: Which milk do you use?"
Sun Mar-08-15 11:54 PM by Starks dunked on Bul

I might be allergic to milk so I'm thinking about making a change. I think I have it narrowed down to Rice Milk, I'm not sure how it tastes.

What do you use?

Also, this cereal is so good:

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51C3mlbTOyL._SY300_.jpg

It tastes like coconut cookies.

In response to Reply # 0

I don't think folks are using coconut milk as a milk milk substitute

Rice milk probably has the least nutritional value of the list, but it tastes good in a neutral kinda way

I use almond, as I suspect most milk sub folks do these days, and soy is still best for hot beverages

Whole foods and Kroger have great almond/coconut blends, but either on there own is great for hot/cold cereal and coffee.

However, if I'm eating a pastry, cookies or a PBJ; I have to have a glass of ice cold whole milk.

My son is allergic to milk, so he drinks almond and coconut (almond is banned at his school, since it's a "nut free" zone).

I'll use all three pretty much interchangeably, but I'm not a real big fan of almond milk in my coffee. It's too thin and too drastically changes its flavor. I go whole, coconut, or straight black in that case.

I had the shittiest luck with regular/real milk for years. I buy 1 or 2% and my milk had a habit of spoiling 5+ days before the "Sell By" date like, I dunno, probably 30% of the time, maybe more. It was a very unpleasant surprise to drink that shit thinking nothing of it then realizing it tasted like asshole even tho the Sell By date was next week.

People tried to ask me about my refrigerator settings but this happened between 3 different places I've lived and I never touched the fridge settings in any of those places, so this is just shit luck of the draw.

Anyway, organic milk has a sell by date like 2 months out, and it's been a savior. I haven't had milk go bad in over a year.

if your shit was spoiling before the expiration date, something was wrong. it's usually good 2-3 days after and with a particularly cold fridge you can extend that. i bought a fridge mainly made for beverages and i keep it nice and cold. i buy my milk fresh from a dairy, it lasts at least five days after the expiration date without any issue.

Sounds like you have a problem that can solved by a colder fridge or buying smaller milk sizes.

I tried all that. Bought half gallons and even quarter gallons instead of full gallons. Changed fridge temps (ridiculous because this happened constantly in 3 different fridges). Etc. That shouldn't make a difference. So long as I don't leave it on the counter, I shouldn't be beating the sell by date by a week just under a third of the time I buy milk.

At this point, don't care about health ramifications. I kinda eat like shit anyway. Just want milk that lasts longer than 4 days. And now I have it.

Organic Valley makes a decent one I like.

In a pinch, I use the Lactaid brand.

I pretty much hate soy milk because it just tastes gross to me, and I don't think the others sub very well in other general cooking. I don't mind the taste of the other milk subs, but the viscosity of them and the additives in most of the commercial ones give me pause.
