>like not tipping is usually some ol bum ass shit...same type >mofo's who bum for loosies regularly
I wouldn't say usually by any means. I'm speaking in very general terms and I've seen this across social and economic lines.
>maybe folks i know are different and I can accept that....
Well, I wouldn't say my experience is the end-all, be all or anything, but I will say that the notion that blacks don't tip definitely has legs. I know whites and Latinos that don't tip either, but the percentages are considerably lower.
>i know is EVERY time I been out and it comes time to pay >everybody kicks in for the tip and makes a big to do about it as >in 'let's make sure we tip' type a attitude... which actually >irritates me when it happens but more when i see the whole >'black people don't tip' thing >and this goes back high school
>now things like food delivery people ....that's debatable
Just speaking from my personal experience here, but if I delivered a pizza to a black person or drove them in my cab, they rarely tipped. It just seemed like a cultural thing. I lived with black folks for large stretches of my childhood and tipping was always met with a “why would I do that?” sort of attitude. I married a black woman and her family is a mixed bag when it comes to tipping. Her mom doesn’t tip at all and when I met wife would either not tip at all or tip like a dollar or two at best.
The percentage of black folks who tipped generally got better if they lived in a nicer area, but it still lagged behind whites and Latinos. Latinos also lagged behind whites.
That said, the best tippers across the board in my experience were generally blue collar types, with whites leading the pack. People with the biggest houses in the nicest areas, regardless of race generally tipped very little and were on generally on par with people in trailer parks.
I’d also get black folks who tipped abnormally large and I often wondered if they were trying to compensate. Over the years I’ve seen and heard plenty of people say exactly that- including right here in OKP- that they would tip higher to compensate. Who knows. Generosity is generosity.
>but restaurants....i don't see it
I think you’re just surrounded by people who believe in tipping. It’s not as though not tipping is specific to blacks. It’s just, generally speaking, blacks tend to tip less and are less likely to tip overall. Just to be clear, while I’ve personally seen blacks lag far behind other races as a whole in the tipping department, tipping habits can and likely do vary by the economy of a given region, the type and quality of the establishment, etc. It’s also hard to tell how much economics play in because you can have a nice house in a nice area and be hanging on by a thread.
