and if that's the case i'm not sure why this is breaking news or the implicit grouping of this incident with the targeted killing of those two cops in brooklyn. cops occasionally get shot at while apprehending violent criminals committing a violent crime. that's partially why they carry guns and wear vests. getting shot at is an accepted hazard of the job they do.
what's been most disappointing about the media spin of recent events is not the spin itself (that is expected) but how the public itself starts to spin (or incorrectly expand) the narrative on social media before the story even develops in mainstream media. including the side that pre-emptively goes on the defensive.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Or maybe not, I dunno. Three of us -- all light skinnish with beards -- were walking through Hell's Kitchen at 1 am, carrying backpacks and shopping bags from Top Shop (we'd lugged them to the bar lol), when three police cars pulled up to our right and ice grilled us for blood. Not having heard the news of the shooting -- and under the impression that the police had halted stop-and-frisk (and their job duties in general) -- I was confused about what they could possibly want with us. Just as the officers were coming out of their cars, a voice on their radio told them they had the wrong location and to drive a few blocks up. They stopped in their tracks.
At least one of us could somewhat resemble the suspect through white people eyes. That would have been an interesting turn of events.
