YG made the best major-label rap album of 2014 with My Krazy Life, and that was largely thanks to some of the best beats of the year by 2014-defining producer DJ Mustard, YG’s fellow L.A. resident and longtime collaborator. The two artists each enjoyed banner years, so it’s unfortunate to see them lashing out at each other over money in the final days of December. In a series of Instagram posts this afternoon they seem to be accusing each other of not paying money they owe each other for various projects. It appears that the war of words began when Mustard posted some text indicating that he wasn’t paid for his work on My Krazy Life. That post has since been deleted, but YG posted a screenshot with a caption indicating that Mustard never paid YG for his work on Mustard’s 10 Summers or for being the voice behind Mustard’s signature tag, “Mustard on the beat, hoe!” YG’s post implied that he might visit Mustard’s studio with a gun to get his money. Mustard responded with an agreement that they should meet face to face, then YG posted a screenshot indicating that Mustard hadn’t been answering his phone calls. YG was co-producing before Mustard was even making beats. He's the type that can't even tell you the technical names for things, but will be like "nah, less of that shh shh (hi hat) sound...make that bass bump harder....slow the beat down....that *claps hand* shit ain't gin hard enough" and it'll take the song up a whole nother level.

You can actually tell the difference when he makes beats that go under his name and aren't touched by Mustard. Mustard basically polished a lot more of the hits than fully producing em...such as how he did with 2 on. And people may say "it's so simple, how the hell is there a co-producer??" But with these empty type beats, the mix and focusing tough in each element means eeeeeverything.
Perfect example is listening to Bow Wow "We in da club" and then Ty Dolla "Tricks"...the mix is so much better on Ty's, you forget it's even the same beat.
