son scrolls up and sees the convo between pops and "Juan"
clearly aint no Juan

clearly this man has already shown not only capacity but also intent when it comes to deception. 9/10 these kinds will NOT give you a clear-cut answer if confronted directly esp if your supporting evidence is weak. They will spin it back on you and make you look like Boo-Boo the (Mistrusting) Fool.
Better to sit and wait for all you know it could just be a flirtation that is clearly spiraling out of control at the moment.
I went through something very similar. My SO at the time gave me his phone to call a cab home when we were visiting his family. As I was going through his history (this was the second time that day that we called that car service), I saw an unfamiliar number pop up frequently in the calls/text log. Said nothing of it, just memorized the number and took mental notes. Called the cab and continued on with the day Luck just happened to have it that he left his phone at home and I called out sick on the same day. Went through the phone more thoroughly and found all the evidence I needed that there was emotional cheating going (all types of flirtation, he confiding things in her that I had no clue of to begin with etc). Forwarded all the texts to my phone, took pictures of the phone logs.
Waited until he got home asked him how his day went and then asked him how his friend Laurie was doing.
You would've sworn he saw a ghost. He tried to flip it back on me, why did I go through his phone...
"I didn't need to go all through your logs you called her the same day you gave me your phone to call our cab home, remember?"
Luckily for him my evidence only showed that he violated friendly boundaries but no outright cheating. My idea of nipping it in the bud was making him call her, explain that HE had crossed the line in our relationship so he could no longer associate with her as I did not trust him to maintain boundaries anymore. He tried to be cute and say she didn't pick up the phone but I just made him call again and leave a voicemail with the whole story in front of me. As far as I know their verbal/text communication ended or he wisened up because I never caught anything further the 2 times I snooped afterward.
I say all this to say You have to know and adjust to who you're dealing with.

you didn't wait for something 'more' to happen, you brought it up - but of course it's all in the delivery. I just believe in being open & giving someone an opportunity to do better, so there's no chance they can be like 'oh, i didn't know/it just happened/etc.' Which yes, in itself is idealistic to a degree, but also about being a better communicator myself.

And I've seen this scenario first hand myself.
Kid is playing a game. Text comes up. Kid being sneaky/nosy, clicks on said text. If it's a picture, they're clicking on the pic. They show whomever is around. LOL. It happens, does happen and can happen.
