you may want to contact other people who have had their footage used in the media for an idea of what to charge.

as far as crediting, you can use your real name or your instagram account name unless you have your own production company you want advertised.

that's cool, i just wanted to point out that people can charge and media do pay. it's not a must, just an option. definitely make sure you are properly credited, however.

when the recipient is gonna profit off what you give them...

or you just lay down and give it to them like a schmuck.

say to them: i'll sell you the exclusive rights to the footage without any due credit and take the footage offline for $1000-2000.

if you feel the footage is more valuable proceed to raise the rate.

then you could contact one of their competitors and tell them you have an offer for $2000 and ask them if they would be interested in the footage.

again, if the footage is not really all that valuable - they'll probably lose interest.

I just happened to be in the area
took to Twitter and IG asking if anyone knew what happened
took a short video of firefighters on an awning throwing stuff out of a window and smoke billowing out
ABC News commented asking if they could use my video and left me a number. CBS did too but they didn't leave a number plus I saw ABC's comment first so I called the number, spoke to a producer and got name credit when the video aired during the 10:00pm broadcast.

In my case I was contacted by the network news producers directly, not by a company that sells footage.

if you click on some "viral videos" on youtube you may see in the description an email address contact at storyful for interested parties. nice little hustle they got going.
