not as trendy/expensive as Brooklyn
not as grimy as The Bronx (peace, king)
Manhattan just seems hella expensive
Staten Island kinda sounds like the Bronx.

This is purely on perception.

for what?

but i guess if i did i'd be moving for something specific and i would want to live near it.

so if i move for a job i'd want to be somewhere not too far from it. if i work in Manhattan i wanna live there, for example.

if i move for a man then i'd live where he wants, i guess. if he was there to teach at St. Johns then i guess we'd live in Queens.

if i move for school (*shivers*) i'd want to be not too far from it. so if NYU i'd look somewhere in LM. if Columbia then i'd be somewhere uptown.

but really...for what?

i can't see it.

fuck you.

Astoria
Sunnyside
South Bronx
by Pelham Parkway
Inwood
Bushwick (but only my old block)

Peggy Bundy me:
Forest Hills (again)
Jamaica Estates
Malba (if we ballin like that)
Jackson Heights (Historic District only, you will NOT catch me living by Roosevelt Ave)

You guys will put street numbers on fucking anything, and make a neighborhood out of seven houses.

It's like 'Dutch Kills' -- it's there, it iexists, but no one can give me exact geography. Basically, it's Long Island City where it grades into Queensbridge and Ravenswood.

Also?

How the fuck you have projects that sound like they were named after Dungeons and Dragons games?

I know about these streets I was raised in © Lil Fame
this is the best map I could find that breaks down the microneighborhoods and even then I don't agree with all the set boundaries: http://www.urgorealty.com/images/map_boundaries2.gif

that blank area above Flushing, under College Point would be part of College Point (anything on College Point Blvd north of Northern Blvd is College Point)
Malba would take that corner pocket and some of Whitestone

this article was making the rounds last week about this huge new Food Bazaar in LIC
had me kinda stuck like "when da fuq did that happen?"
Ask lfresh
I took one look at the address (Northern Blvd) then called shenanigans because there is no section of Northern that runs through LIC, it's much too far north. I really need non-Queens people to stop writing about Queens cuz this is how some of that bullshit starts. People going off of either their friend's shitty sense of direction or Google Maps instead of neighborhood familiarity.

here for dis.

the thing with Queens is that there is a lot of overlapping done and it goes back to village/town days
i.e. Malba, Whitestone, College Point, Queensborough Hill, Auburndale were all villages that were part of the town of Flushing. I saw this a lot with the post office bouncing around Queens growing up. When I lived in Forest Hills, our mail would sometimes be addressed as "Flushing, NY", other times it would be "Jamaica, NY" (that NEVER made sense to me but whatever). My mom goes through this now living in Kew Gardens Hills, her mail either says Flushing or Jamaica.

In Dutch Kills' case I would say about 3/4s of that hood overlaps with Hunters Point so it's almost interchangeable at this point. It doesn't help that Queens is beginning to suffer that horrible hipster ailment of renaming neighborhoods or shortening names. I'm starting to see a TON of references to "FoHi" (Forest Hills) and it makes me murderously angry, esp since I came up there too. I hope one of the old-school Bulgars or Russians hammerfists whoever started that shit's head open.

here for dis.

They really need a central post office for southern central Queens.
It's basically broken down between LIC, Flushing and Jamaica. I wouldn't even know how to classify your address under than since you're definitely NOT near ANY of those hoods.

In response to Reply # 27

it was basically the buffer between LIC and Astoria.

Once both neighborhoods became fashionable, no one wanted to call it dutch kills they just picked one or the other.

I was on 36th ave and 32nd street. I think Dutch Kills was basically from 35th to 38th ave, and from steinway to 21st street.

i'd get a place on the water.

manhattan is fantastic if you can swing it and you don't have to worry about taxis and cabs or coming home late at night if you're female or long exhausting commutes.

more time ilving less commuting is a win to me.

when I was going to school, nobody seemed to know where it was located
and depending on which side you lived on, it was mostly Jewish
now all the people I know who have moved there within the past 3 years have all been PoC. It's a very convenient area for Queens plus it's pretty, quiet, a nice little dining district, I ain't mad at all.

at the end of her block was some sort of drug raid a few months back. I think it was in a laundromat or something.

I still love the area. Absolutely gorgeous.

it's got a bad stretch of trains the way it's laid out. I used to live a block over from CH, off Franklin ave.
it's truly residential besides the college over there. Bedstuy and Ft. Greene just seem much more interesting.
