I'll list my favs and the ones I'm watching

Rurouni Kenshin - my personal fav...perfect balance of plot, humor, characters to me and avoids a lot of the things about anime that turns people off

Naruto - most of the story arcs have been really good...love the span of time it goes through...really starting to get annoyed with some of the flashbacks...especially since it often feels the flashbacks get repetitive and come right in the middle of climax to reveal some backstory i already guessed, knew, or plain ol dont give a shit about...but the story itself is pretty great

Pscyho Pass - was heady, trippy, but cool

Hunter x Hunter - most recent arc was starting to really annoy me and it sometimes suffers from the shit that bothers me about anime from time to time...sometimes these eps really really really try to drag out a story arc that doesn't need to be dragged out...i'm so glad the Chimera ant arc is pretty much over...i can't see straight...series also started out mad slow...and then picked up severely and hadn't hit a lull until this last arc

Attack on Titan - gruesome, dark, cool, fun...really cool premise/concept and the art and movement is really dope to watch

Black Bullet - so far so good...can't say anything that really stands out about it yet...but it's drawn me in a lil bit...moves really fast too...that's always a plus

Strike the Blood - kinda upset they didn't keep releasing eps...the ending was really promising...weird premise but plots/characters were good enough to keep me invested

Durarara - really liked this show...wish they had kept the eps going...not sure what it was about this show but i really liked the way it developed and the story-telling in it

Kill la Kill - usually not the type of show i like but it was worth watching and it's not that long of a single season series so it's a fun binge watch

Hakuoki Reimeiroku - wanted to like this series but this and the other ones (prequel/sequel) series never quite delivered...liked the characters but they never really did much more than scratch the surface...the plot was very meh too but the artwork was pretty easy on the eyes

Hamatora - cool concept...not executed all that well...but i want to see how this next season develops

ping pong - best anime from 2014 so far. crazy visuals. great character development for such a short show. everybody should watch.

star driver - favorite anime i've seen in the last year. fun cast. swagged out main characters. memorable insert songs. tauburn is one of my all time favorite mechs. if you love mecha action you owe it to yourself to watch at least the finale. there's movie out that covers the entire series in 2.5 hrs.

gundam wing - i didn't really fuck w/ this hard when i was a kid but
it's a lot different than i remember. it didn't age well.

gargantia - one of my favorites in the last year. great worldbuilding and character development. the few mecha battles are dope.

psychopass - took a while for this to get going but the main plot (from like ep 9-end) is doooope. great show.

jojo - it sells itself. part 3 is so dope. i'm torn between reading the rest of the parts or just waiting on the anime because i like the surprises araki throws out.

avatar last airbender - wanted to rewatch it since nick never shows it in any kind of order. the finale is still disappointing but it's a HOF animation series.

no game no life - show from the spring season. super fun. main character is like yugi & light yagami mixed up w/ his ability to win. just depends on how much fanservice you can tolerate.

hunter x hunter - one of the great shonen series. i'm surprised it hasn't been dubbed yet. it shits on the big 3 from a great height.

kuroko's basketball - i'm fiending for the 3rd season. basketball + shonen bullshit = $$$$$$

magi kingdom/labyrinth of magic - solid shonen. i've heard some complaints about it not being a great adaptation but i'm not familiar w/ the manga.

hamatora - kind of like if detectives were xmen. its pretty bad.

i've never been that into Gundam but G grabbed me when i was a kid. Build Fighters got me the same way so i've started to go back through the series and Wing is the first step before i jump into some of the Universal Century stuff.

Haven't seen Build Fighters...I'll check it out. The other Gundams are a little boring to me. Not sure if you like horror anime, but I just started watching Tokyo Ghoul and so far it's ok.

Like a few said above, just got done peepin' the entire season of
Kill la Kill: HEAT! Lots of dynamic cinematography and hand-drawn emphasis that paid a homage to vintage 90's/80's anime heritage.

Aside from that, I primarily been focusing on older hand-drawn classics, for example on a whim I watched the first two Goku Midnight Eye OVA's
the other day.

Brotherhood gets through all that stuff faster

And both stories are good. In some ways, FMA Brotherhood is more engaging in a brutal way, but the premises in the first anime help set the stage for it, both character-wise and world-wise.


IMO, the FMA first/original anime was overall better done as an anime since it was created ground-up as such, and not as a pure manga adaptation.

Brotherhood is good...I like it better than FMA. Cowboy Bebop and Trigun are great. Try watching Samurai Champloo and Michiko to Hatchin too.

I'm torn tho... I've been watching anime forever and I do prefer Japanese audio with english subs (EXCEPT for Akira... I prefer the original english dub). I started most of these in english, but I'm thinking of waiting to get my hands on subtitled versions.

Even my HK Action flicks are chinese w/subs.

Champloo is better subbed. I like the GITS dub too.

I definitely prefer subbed in general, but sometimes dubs are actually good.

The dialogue is WAY more complex in sections than in the first season. I remember having to go thru some scenes multiple times to catch everything and keep up with plot developments.

I was glad I watched it alone for that reason, lol.

Specifically The Killer. The dialogue in the subbed version makes sense, whereas the dubbed version is laughable.

Also, there's something to hearing the emotion in the original actors voice while reading the dialogue.

Same reason why I could never watch Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon if it were dubbed.

i think it matters what you started out in...

i once watched Kenshin with dubs and it made it completely unwatchable...the voice casting completely ruined the characters

ultimately there's no difference
usually if you watched the subs then go to the dubs it takes about 5 or so episodes to get used to

vice versa it only takes about 10 minutes, but you tend to hear the dub voices in your head

i remember seeing one of the DBZ movies before it was dubbed and whenever i recalled which of the movies i'd seen, i was convinced i had seen it dubbed. lol

but yeah i tend to lean toward dubs because i'm usually doing something else while watching. Thats why i'm so far behind on One Piece
