i was driving home last week, and they were out picketing with impeachment signs so that they could be seen from the beltway (major highway system here in maryland). i'm like, for what? last time it was a BJ, but dubya and cheney can commit war crimes and go unpunished? whatever...

to put it mildly, the Dems won't.

The public won't see any impeachment talk as anything else than sour grapes for the shutdown not working............at all.

When the public and the Dem's won't blink or accept that reaction, it'll easily be dismissed in the press as sour grapes for losing an election AND LOSING THIS SHUTDOWN SCHEME.

Public support/perception does mean something...the public elected Obama after it was predicted the public would not due to socialistic Obamacare.

http://www.salon.com/2013/10/15/4_reasons_the_christian_right_longs_for_the_apocalypse_partner/

(partial swipe)

While there’s much about the Christian right that’s difficult for the rest of us to understand, the preoccupation with the “end times” is close to the top of the list. The situation in Syria seems to be having the odd effect of amplifying this already strange tendency of fundamentalist Christians to cast around looking for evidence that they will be witness to the apocalypse. One-third of Americans believes that the Syrian conflict portends the end of the world.

What makes this even weirder is how many of them want this to be true. While speaking to Jan Markell on the radio show, “Understanding the Times,” Rep. Michele Bachmann predicted that the conflict in Syria was a sign that the world was going to end, because the President was arming rebels in that country: “This happened and as of today the United States is willingly, knowingly, intentionally sending arms to terrorists, now what this says to me, I’m a believer in Jesus Christ, as I look at the end times scripture, this says to me that the leaf is on the fig tree and we are to understand the signs of the times, which is your ministry, we are to understand where we are in God’s end times history.”

While she didn’t come out and say it, the implication was crystal clear to the audience: President Obama is the Antichrist and his actions are going to kickstart the final battle between good and evil that will bring the end of the world. While most of us would be alarmed if we thought we were facing down the apocalypse and a worldwide war that will kill millions, Bachmann can’t wait: “Rather than seeing this as a negative, we need to rejoice, Maranatha Come Lord Jesus, His day is at hand.”

the senate would need a 2/3 majority to impeach, which wouldn't happen, but i could see the tea party dragging on the proceedings for months wasting tax dollars and everyone's time on it.

while it's obvious that it is all on House Republicans to stop these dangerous shenanigans. The press isn't a voice for the truth and only the facts.....they play a game where there are 2 sides to the truth when there isn't.

Facts are still facts. It's constitutionality has already been tested. I'm not saying they won't try to find something to impeach him over; however, it won't be the ACA. They have nothing there. Hell, they'd have a better chance with Benghazi than that.

impeached? everyone who signed off on it should get the axe as well, this was worked on by both sides. can't agree to a law then try to impeach a president because that very same law you agreed to is unconstitutional.

actually come to think of it, i don't think any law later ruled unconstitutional can be used as grounds to impeach a president. there's too many hands in the cookie jar signing off on it before it even reaches POTUS to sign off on it.

they gotta catch him slipping and lying under oath, or doing some backhanded ish to impeach him.

The house has the sole power to impeach the president, at which point it goes to trial in the senate.

they can impeach the president, but they won't remove him from office.

time about something that won't get past the Senate?

I haven't seen the press just cheer on everything Republicans do.

The press had this whole shutdown situation to do just that, if the press is just so eager to go for ratings by promoting Republican stuff.

The press had the last presidential election to do that as well.

The press didn't back up Republicans on the shutdown, and any waste of time impeachment moves............

In response to Reply # 28

The press really couldn't ignore that.

I don't remember the press backing Republicans on that situation, because, like the Dems, most of the press couldn't let go of the general AGRESSIVENESS of the GOP pursuing President Clinton in that era for the press to not reflect that Pres. Clinton was just "in a vice" when he did that testimony.

The press from what I have perceived about them will also portray the GOP as vindictive and just out for revenge if the GOP goes for impeachment against President Obama anytime soon.

Certain "narratives" (and the press love narratives) are too clear.

Pres. Clinton was probably able to keep his office due to the narrative of Ken Starr and the GOP being too "relentless".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Efforts_to_impeach_Barack_Obama

In October 2010, prior to the elections in which Republicans won control of the House, Jonathan Chait published an article in The New Republic called "Scandal TBD" where he predicted that if Republicans were to win control of the House, and Barack Obama were to win re-election in 2012, the Republicans would try to impeach Obama and use any reason possible as pretext.

to "predict" worse case scenario's with Republicans.

Yeah, I know people KNOW Republicans aren't SANE but

I also read Slate.com (a less strident version of The New Republic) and they were predicting (or fretting over, more like it) Republicans not accepting the legitimacy of the voting results of the 2012 election, due to the fact that there was all this talk about the "possibility of voter fraud".

I know this will cause: "yeah, yeah, a-ight about the voter fraud histeria, BUT........"

nah......no "BUT", liberals like writers at The New Republic and Slate.com were SURE republicans would go ALL OUT and not accept the results of the election vote because of all the voter fraud talk.

so.......

We just had an election that President Obama won and there haven't been no Tea Party riots fueled by Limbaugh and Hannity and Nugent and Norris....

and

the country just saw this shutdown go down, and I PREDICT all this: "Republicans are still going to GO CRAZY!!!!!!!!" talk is JUST LIKE ALL THAT: "VOTER FRAUD PARANOID REPUBLICANS ARE GOING TEAR THINGS UP!!!" talk.

After this thing went down with the shutdown, any impeachment attempts are going to seem like straight revenge. That perception makes it very less likely Republicans are going to throw caution to the wind and barrel ahead. The writer of the New Republic article didn't take into account something this major would happen before the Republicans could cook up any reason to try to impeach President Obama.

This shutdown is a little too big a situation to brush under the rug and just stir up something else.

NSA surveillance is legal thanks to sections 215 and 702 of the patriot act. Also Ronal Reagan's executive order 12,333 is in play as well.
The ACA was upheld by the Supreme Court.

I would make every Republican senator take a position on whether they would vote to impeach BHO or not and turn the whole 2016 election into a referendum on whether folks want to give the republicans the senate in order to spend all their time on a BHO witchhunt.

In response to Reply # 80

So wanted to impeach the "regular amount" while others wanted to "impeach with extreme prejudiced."

They only reason they didn't impeach is they couldn't find any issue that would have support from both sides.

Sex scandal would have done it. Benghazi did not.
