"Has there been a proper follow up to Badu's "Momma's Gun"?"

While I really like some of the projects that followed, none of them seemed like a "true" follow up to the classice "Momma's Gun". So much so that I've rarely seen her perform songs from anything other thank Baduism and MG.

Let's be clear, I see Badu as one of our shining lights and I feel her best work is yet to come. But is it too much to ask for another Soulquarian helmed project from her?!?!

I could be me, but I just feel like the post Momma's Gun releases weren't presented as proper releases and kinda just came and went. It's apparent when speaking to people about Badu they mainly focus on the first 2 projects and never really speaks on the others.

though I suppose Amerykah Pt. 2 hit for me at an age when her first two hit for most of you.

to me, Amerykah Pt. 1 was her opus, and Pt. 2 is her most fun album. for me and a lot of people EYE know, her first two albums are a reminder that more than D'Angelo and The Roots had that kind of sound.

I'd go

Pt. 1
Mama's Gun
Pt. 2
Baduizm
Worldwide Underground
Phone

but that's me. and her "Hello" cover and "Phone Down" rank among my favorite Badu cuts so I wouldn't agree that she ever fell off or became less interesting.

I think Erykah is a very moody person and when it comes to her music she goes thru moods, and it changes like the moon cycle, which is why all her albums feel separate from each other.

I think she has a mass amount of music just sitting in a vault like Prince, does, I feel D'Angelo & The Roots have a good amount of unreleased material just sitting unmastered just waiting to be heard by the public but all three of them are moody about what they release these days.

“Props to the Lonely People” was listed on the back cover on my Mama’s Gun CD but it wasn’t included on the album. I’d love to hear that song. If I remember correctly, Bilal was on the cut.

And I don't blame her, because that sound is very seductive and could easily have lured her into making the same album over and over again. She basically made 2 albums with that sound and is still beloved for that material alone. She didnt need to do any more of that.

when she first came out she kept a money track and something catchy
and also she got away with the mary hartman mary hartman thing

however the records were long wided
and short on the goods and she got lost in the sauce. for a minute she was running with Mary J Bliege and then she just went off the road.

and in truth badu was one foot NDECEOCELLO AND other foot Bliege.

her audience stays with her however that other never came

the elements are there, definitely.

I think it just 'feels' different.

It sounds like instead of locking down a studio like back in the Electric Lady days, all the personnel was just sending her tracks. The 'space' around the songs feels less co-hesive, but thematically and sonically it was on point to me.

That's It!!! Maybe that's why I want another Soulquarians produced project from her. There was something special about them all locking down Electric Lady and working on their projects simultaneously. Some epic music was made...I only wonder what was left in the cutting room.
