"Larry Smith "Hip-Hop's First Super Producer""

Had to show some respect to this man.

DJ Premier considers him as his #1 Producer.

Made The Breaks by Kurtis Blow, Sucker MCs and Rock Box for Run-DMC, Five Minutes of Funk, Friends and Freaks Come out at Night for Whodini among many others. When you consider the influence these songs had on Hip-Hop it's easy to see Premier's stance.

Any of the DJ's on here have a tribute mix of his work? If not, can I please request one be made?

Found a couple of great articles on him.

i always say Run-DMC is the greatest group of all time, but when i say that i’m really saying Larry is the greatest.

marley marl is number 2.

number three is when the real debates begin.

Rock Box is a personal fav.

What makes him number 1 to you?

To me, understanding how his approach impacted Hip-Hop at the time and how it influenced the music moving forward is amazing.

I feel I need to study the greats further to be able to confidently make a list but I definitely understand him being placed at the top or near the top.

pretty much everything they're known for.

I think Rock Box is what got me to appreciate "old school" hip-hop.

I grew up on G-funk then started getting drawn into "back pack" stuff in late 90's early 2000's thanks to aquemini and the aint sayin nothin new/double trouble/act too (love of my life) trio. Eventually got into late 80's/early 90's thanks to tribe and de la. Took a while to appreciate early 80's.

Didn't really look much into production of the early 80's stuff as I wrongly assumed it was all break beats and sampels from pre-existing songs. Reading about Larry know I get why those beats went so hard.

his position would be indisputable. I mean it already is, but he's be considered on equal footing with the best producers of any genre, where he belongs.
