Because that's all it's saying. It's no different than saying "to summarize....".
I'm genuinely curious because I've seen "end of the day" noted as a pet peeve a few times over the years and never understood why. Seems like a perfectly valid reasonable way of summing up a point and instantly losing respect for someone over that phrase doesn't really seem to make sense to me.

there's PLENTY hand-wringing and pearl-clutching about Trump's shenanigans in the media. and plenty meta articles about the media's coverage of Trump. where's the space for him to be 'normalized'? and anyway, despite him being the oddball PEOTUS that he's been the machinery of the gubmint will roll on. he's going to be inaugurated just like the other 44 POTUS's we've had. he'll be seen sitting in the desk in the Oval Office. he's going to 'normalized' no matter what. i don't know what these thinkpiece authors want 'the media' to do that isn't already being done. i don't get it.

I have to bite my tongue every time I hear someone say that.
The percentage of Black folks with >3% Native blood is super duper small. But every other Black person will mention that as if they're great-grandmother was full-blooded.
