"Why Doesnt Three 6 Mafia Get The Recoginition They Deserve?"

Majority of all the songs coming out today bite from the production of DJ Paul & Juicy J.From the heavy pill usage and syrup sipping to the flow, all come from the Mafia. The chant heavy lyrics wit the slowed 16 & sometimes 12s & 8s.Their style has been recycled and used by so many from all regions, you cant tell me Jersey doesnt remind you of Three 6( https://youtu.be/OF2bPl9h5Ls ) or the similarities between Tongue Ring ( https://youtu.be/2zCm3-UkqYU ) & Thought It Was A Drought ( https://youtu.be/2zCm3-UkqYU ). The young crop of cats are samplin them heavy so hopefully they'll get their deserved shine:

Lil Bibby - My Hood:https://youtu.be/unDkc4-ElI4
Lil Herb - I'm Rolling: https://youtu.be/GE1VeZrFRwU
Kodak Black - No Flockin: https://youtu.be/UE_-obgiWm0
ASAP Ant - Told Ya: https://youtu.be/TyTZJouDMeE
& of course Rocky - https://youtu.be/5v6JUzxWoGw

Iont care what no one says, if they were from Compton or Brooklyn they would be hailed as hip hop icons. They've had a ridiculous impact & but yet get ignored.

They were waaaaay ahead of their time, even the old stuff sounds like an Eric Dingus or Tommy Kruise set

If anyone is going to big them up, it's going to tend to be southerners (I like their sound alot, but I'm from Philly, where they were unknown prior to Tear The Club Up.) But Atlanta people don't seem to be willing to do that.

If they had the support of a major city behind them things would have turned out very different.
I thought it was going to happen after big pimping... But it sorta fizzled.

Hey you can't deny that 3/6 was nothing beyond regional. Nobody outside of GA, TN, or AL were really checking for them like that.

anybody that says they just have a few jams sucks.

as producers, I have DJ Paul & Juicy J sitting at 7/8 on my list. everything they touched from roughly 1990 to 2003 was golden. I'd also put the first string of Three 6 solo records up against Wu-Tang's in terms of a massive posse delivering great album after great album. They'd sit even higher if I weren't just taking the albums as a whole into account; oftentimes they were held back by the artists they worked with, especially once Lord Infamous, Koopsta Knicca and Kingpin Skinny Pimp left their camp / deteriorated as artists.

Gangsta Boo's been revitalized the last few years artistically; I'd love to hear her get on a track with Juicy J now.

1. King of da Playaz Ball: 8.90
2. Underground Vol. 1: 1991-1994: 8.75
3. Da Devil's Playground: Underground Solo: 8.34
4. Ghetty Green: 8.11
5. Murderers & Robbers: 8.10
6. When the Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1: 7.73

These six albums plus Three 6's first three group records (Mystic Stylez, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2) are all essential for anybody that claims they're a hip-hop head, and I'd say up through Crook by tha Book there weren't any true duds in the discography other than Most Known Unknown which was those couple hit singles away from being an absolute train wreck.

I'm honestly surprised the dude who once recorded "Time for the Juice Mane" (what a stellar production on that one) and "Walk Up to Your House" is now Taylor Gang's go-to party record guy. Never could have seen it coming.

people that know of them on the surface just have no clue how dope their catalog is. I certainly had no clue until i happened to get a copy of their Untouchables album. I was amazed at how dope it was through and through. Before that I only knew them for certain cuts which were cool and hilarious but not enough to entice me to listen to a full album. Once I did i realized Juicy J and Dj Paul were geniuses.

RBL Posse was straight doo doo grits, but they got famous at a time when you really needed to have wordplay skills on the mic.

I heard three-6 back around '92 or '93 back when they were Triple Six and Backyard Posse, then again when Mystic Stylez came out (though I coulda sworn one of my boys had a Project Pat tape back in '91 or '92). I dismissed them as some wannabe Esham/Natas rappers biting Esham's whole steez, especially in the name "triple six" and later for some of the imagery for the cover of Mystic Stylez.

Juicy J is about to be 41 still making songs for kids

they're regional legends for sure and birthed a lot of copycats (Knuck If You Buck was basically a Three 6 record)

but they never made a universally respected song (i.e. you could play it in an east coast party today)

I can maybe see sipping on some sizzurp during the 11 PM warm up hour, otherwise nope

your best arguments are "they produced International Players Anthem" and "Bandz Make Her Dance was huge"

It's why I love that Juicy J's comeback was built off his mixtape with his work with Lex Luger and other trap cats that basically took his blueprint and ran with it. Obviously the current trap wave is all them; which people put in early jeezy/ti hands but really was driven by producers who took their blueprint and ran with it.

As it's been covered in the post above people don't give them respect because

1)They were more Southern then Atlanta at a time where NYC couldn't pull it's head from its ass

2)Seen as subpar mc's due to their rudimentary rhyme flow even though their subject matter was pretty unique (ain't like the OG horrorcore cats ever make a wave)

3)No real major label push

And we still don't give them their respect; the atmosphere they create with their tracks is unparalleled in hip-hop; its not really that surprising they won an Oscar.

Im on vacay driving around alot and just told myself yesterday I need to throw some 3-6 on the ipod.

Esham, Natas, and... I hate to even say it... ICP have a tremendous following. Esham never made it as big as ICP did, but he's their acknowledged influence. Like I said earlier, I always thought of Three-6 as a bootleg Esham-type group 'cause all their early material is straight outta "Boomin Words from Hell", "Erotic Poetry", "Homey Don't Play Dat", and "Judgement Day Vol 1 and 2".

They've been the only group to have at least satanic theatrics in their music and sell it to a very xtian demographic in southern African Americans. Although now that i think about it rapping drugs/sex/violence to a religious audience would probably have alot of satanic references since it's expected...while Raekwon could sniff the same coke in his rhymes and not feel that he's gotta link it to the devil.

Esham was selling all over the midwest and in the south long before three-3. IIRC his first three full length albums sold over 100K each ("Boomin Words from Hell" and "Judgement Day Vol 1 and 2"). In 1989-1993 you didn't sell 100K copies locally. Regionally, maybe, but typically that came from nationwide sales. Niggas from all over the country had heard of Esham, especially in the south.

I remember my mom throwing away some of their CDs based on name alone. She heard me playing Too $hort, walked in my room to take it away, I had some CDs scattered across the top of my stereo and that name stood out. Grabbed those few CDs and trashed them. Glad she didn't take away my Get In Where You Fit In CD

with several fantastic solo albums as well.

same with N.W.A. (though I'll ride for Efil4zaggin more than most, I think).

The others are just clearly showing a generational if not regional bias.

Different tastes. Three Six Mafia were fantastic, and you're obsession with early 90s boom bap doesn't change that.

i was like, 'But don't they have an Oscar?'

LOL

lots of artists and entertainers spend their entire careers toiling hard in relative obscurity WISHING they could even be nominated for an Oscar. these dudes were nominated for their work on a major motion picture which was widely-released, they were invited to the award ceremony (few entertainers get an invite) and they performed on stage during the ceremony. oh...then they actually won the award for which they were nominated. that's some high-potency recognition right there.

so i was like...'what?'

LOL

fuck you.
