I didn't know what a Deloren was before B2TF and I remember when MJF said "You made a time machine...out of a Deloren". I wasn't able to read whether he was implying it was a shitty car or an awesome car.

I wanna say the Delorean was out of production for about 2/3 yrs when BTTF came out, so Marty's incredulity could have leaned more to it being a POS car.

the DMC-12 has to be the most '80s of '80s cars. in particular, '80s MURRICA (the most MURRICA thing about it is the quad rectangle headlights)

all flash, little to no bang. I think this car had the same PRV engine you could find in some Volvo models of the time

using it in the movie was a genius move. it'd be regarded like the Subaru SVX is to the average person otherwise.

decent acceleration, top speed ~150mph, styling like nothing else on the road.

I've wanted one since they came out. I still want one.

Fun fact: The Subaru SVX was designed by the same cat that designed the Delorean, BMW M1, and Lotus Esprit; Giorgetto Giugiaro.

Subaru didn't have a manual transmission capable of handling that much power/torque.

Still, a 92-93 would be worth it. Those two years Subaru didn't put a top speed governor on that car, so you could unwind one all the way out past 150mph if you had the nerve to do it.

I was 9 when the first Delorean's rolled off the assembly line. At the time and for years after, the styling was seen as very sleek and stylish for a sports car.

What I didn't know back then was that, for all of it's good looks, it was a shitty ass performer. It was also expensive at $25K new back then. An '81 Vette was far cheaper and waaaaay faster than the Delorean, but the Delorean was supposed to be something of an exotic car of sorts back then so that's kinda how they justified the price.

Also, the Delorean's style was closer to the 1st-3rd generation Lotus Esprit than the Sentra you posted:

The Delorean was known to be bullshit. The ppl who fell for it were clowned.

There was one in my neighborhood and we used to laugh about it being on bricks in the owner's garage more than we saw it being driven. Lol. This was around 1987 or 1988.

fuck you.

Even in 1981 that was shit performance, especially for a $25K car. A 1981 Chevrolet Citation X-11 could run 0-60 in 8.5-9 seconds and cost $8K-$9K fully loaded.

What the fuck did anyone expect?

It was a low-quality knock off of a Lotus Esprit with gull wing doors crow-barred on, designed by the same man as the Esprit (shocker) 6 years later and sold for 25% more to mugs who probably still think that a mediocre family movie from 1985 is worth adult conversation in 2015.
