"Walking Dead, Season 3"
Tue Nov-06-12 10:26 PM by BigReg

Considering the show is going to follow the comics closely according to the new showrunner, PLEASE dont give any 'help' to anyone asking questions by giving them info from the comics unless it's clearly labeled.

EPISODE 1:

The Good:

The pacing never let up; they probably killed more zombies then the first two seasons combined.
GORE!
Rick's manned up and kept his speeches to a minimal
In fact, all the characters were MUCH less annoying this time around, even Lori.

The Bad:

As riveting as it was...something about the prison clear out felt strategically dumb to me...particularly the fact that they couldn't take their time and rushed through wasting bullets and possibly risking a character's life. On that last point, LOL at them putting their only medic at risk (an elderly man) to clear out zombies that any of the other chars outside of Lori could have assisted with.

The Ugly:

Wassup with the sexual tension on the show. First you almost had granny porn with Carol and Daryl (and trust me, I wouldn't have been mad at Daryl). Then it felt like they were hinting at puppy dog crush between Carl and Hershel's daughter.

Overall:

Probably it's strongest episode since the first season. Unlike the comics it looks like Michonne and Laura are going to be going in a separate story line while the main group deals with the jail until they combine the two. Im not mad at that since it will give Michonne a chance to shine since she's a pivotal character in the book and give the writers a chance to improve Laurie who's kind of been wasted this series. This was a strong season opener and considering they are dealing with the stronger story lines from the comics the show might reach it's potential this season. I'm all in.

done fucked up and took the budget and fucked it up. We wont see another zombie get killed for 5 episodes.

I also lol'd hard at Rick getting all irritated with Laurie finally. Now you know how we feel.

Strong episode though. I can nit pick all kinds of small things if I wanted. But I am sure they will give me bigger shit to complain about very soon.

Going into season 2, it was a hit but still a largely unknown quantity. Then despite some of the (major) hiccups from the second season, the show just *exploded*. Hopefully this means that the show will get an equitable bump in budget as well (didn't they also expand the episode order, from something like 12 to 16?)

In any case, GREAT first episode. The clearing of the prison felt rushed, but I'm guessing they upped the pace due to the ton of content expected this season. Which is totally fine with me because yeah, lots of season 2 dragged like shit.

I see him trying to walk that line tho. He pulled HNIC, but he's still putting in work. He ain't sitting back and ordering others around. He's taking the tough jobs/dirty work.

Lori's a lil' reigned in, but it's obviously because she's scared of Rick. While I'm happy she's less annoying, it's for the wrong reasons.

Bodies dropping EVERYWHERE. The zombies basically formed a conga line by the prison gates to get killed...AWESOME.

I like the precision with which the group moves now. Rick's got them on that SWAT Team training program, which is what I think Shane ultimately wanted them to develop into...To be able to turn on those survival instincts and ACT in an instant. Whatever fear they have is being replaced by a mental, physical, and spiritual steeliness. Look at Maggie's reaction to killing the riot guard. She was excited as hell when she figured out how to kill him by stabbing him up through his chin. And the others quickly followed suit.

And when Hershel was bitten, Rick didn't hesitate to pull out the hatchet and go all lumberjack on his leg. (THAT SCENE was disgusting) I also wondered why they took Hershel along, but he IS the medic. So he's valuable both in the field and back at homebase.

I mean, I don't expect them to turn into ninjas, but seeing Carol go from an (understandable) emotional wreck and one that needed to be protected, to a person willing to pick up arms and fight back, is pretty dope.

Like everyone else though, I also found the sweep of the prison rushed. They cleared areas so quick, it made the prison seem small. As dope as it was seeing them make their way through, certain parts like taking out the zombies in the prison yard didn't seem challenging. It all had a horror/survival video game feel to me.

But aside from that, great start to the new season.

Shane and everyone else had several months head start to get their heads wrapped around the fact that the world has changed. Rick just woke up out of a coma to see a woman dragging her torso across a grassy knoll. He had to change from a conscientious good guy family man sheriff to a cunning, take no shit, head zombie killer.

I think he's doing pretty damn good, considering.

'Walking Dead' Season 3 Premiere Shatters Basic Cable Ratings Record
12:44 PM PDT 10/15/2012 by Lesley Goldberg

After breaking its own record in three key demos with its second season finale, AMC's The Walking Dead opened its third frame by continuing the trend.

Sunday's season three premiere collected a whopping 10.9 million total viewers, making it the highest-rated episode in series history, up more than 50 percent from its record-breaking season two premiere. The episode now stands as the biggest telecast for any drama series in basic cable history among total viewers. In the key advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demo, the 9 p.m. broadcast collected 7.3 million viewers, with 6.1 million among adults 25-54, all series bests.

Factoring in broadcasts at 9 p.m., 10 p.m. and midnight, the series based on the comics by Robert Kirkman collected 15.2 million total viewers over the course of the night.

"Thank you to the fans for making The Walking Dead such a tremendous success. We are honored and humbled that television's largest adult audience resides on AMC. So many people on both sides of the camera worked tirelessly on this project, and I thank and congratulate each of them for their amazing contribution," AMC president Charlie Collier said Monday.

March's season two finale drew 9 million total viewers, including 6 million in 18-49, 5.3 million in 25-54 and 3.2 million in 18-34. The demo numbers topped basic-cable records set by February's midseason premiere.

Dish subscribers, meanwhile, were shut out of the episode due to its carriage dispute with AMC. The cable network's online stream of the episode -- created specifically for Dish subscribers -- crashed due to overwhelming demand. The premiere is now streaming AMCTV.com (or watch the episode, below).

Some ratings highlights from the series:

• Season 3 premiere, 10/14/12: 10.9 million total viewers, 7.3 million in 18-49, 6.1 million in 25-54

• Season 2 finale, 3/18/12: 9 million total viewers, 6 million in 18-49, 5.3 million in 25-54*

• Season 2 midseason premiere, 2/12/12: 8.1 million total, 5.4 million* in 18-49, 4.4 million* in 25-54

• Season 2 premiere, 10/17/11: 7.3 million total, 4.8 million* in 18-49, 4.2 million* in 25-54

• Season 2 midseason finale, 11/27/11: 6.6 million total, 4.5 million in 18-49, 3.9 million in 25-54

• Season 1 finale, 12/5/10: 6 million total, 4 million in 18-49, 3.5 million in 25-54

• Season 1 premiere, 10/31/10: 5.4 million total viewers, 2.7 million in 18-49

* Record at the time

Meanwhile, Chris Hardwicke's Walking Dead postshow The Talking Dead was also up year-over-year, opening to 2.1 million total viewers (up 85 percent vs. its series premiere last year), and notching 1.5 million in the 18-49 demo (up 92 percent).

just finished watching season 2 the weekend before season 3 premiere.

I don't get all the complaints about season 2 dragging on, but I figure it's because I watched it in about a week and a half.

I'm still messed up about how Dale got killed. Glad Shane got the knife to the chest, but i really liked his character.

About to go download the video game off PSN. Heard good things, and I'm digging the universe...

not completely. plus, it really fucked me up when she came walking out of the barn, knowing everything that happened while they were looking for her.

not to mention going from one episode to the next, as opposed to waiting a week between eps kept things fresh in my mind.

i did the same thing with Homeland. watched the whole first season OnDemand. shit blew me away with the last two eps.

In response to Reply # 0

They cleared one yard and one cell block with hordes of zombies being held back by chain-link fence. It's not like the episode ended with their feet kicked up relaxing in a completely safe fortress. They've got like 75% more of the prison to clear/fortify, plus a group of inmates that will probably end up being ay least as much of a help as they are a hinderance

Great ep, but they've had great openers before that led into some ole bullshit. Hopefully this change towards the better is permanent

The change that happened at the end of last season was Rick is no longer a passenger in the Zombie Apocolypse, he's an active participant now.

He's all in now, he's taking charge, right, wrong, or indifferent he's making choices that he thinks are the best.

Not having those long drawn out speeeches and inner monologues has helped this show so much I can't even type it.

looking forward to this season.

If you have and didn't enjoy it then
why continue to watch it?

If you haven't watched it before
then why say there is no plot other than run?

the plot is survival which in some circumstances means you'd have to run from place to place.

There is an outbreak, the whole world has gone to shit. You either survive as long as you can while waiting for help to show up or you go out seeking help that may or may not be there.

These characters (and the viewers) don't know anything which is great because why would you want a series to have all the answers laid out for you?

>There's literally NO plot other than RUNNN!!!!

What are you looking for, exactly?

The plot is a band of people trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by zombies, and the challenges such a scenario presents- which in and of itself has a lot to offer. I'm not sure what you want from it.

>And none of these characters, not one, is likable.

Huh? Glen? Rick? Daryl? Yeah, pretty much everyone alive at this point outside of Laurie is likable. I mean, Daryl went to great lengths to find that little girl. If you don't find that likable, I dunno what to tell you except it's just not for you. There's NOTHING to dislike about Glen.

>no endearing protagonist and no plot other than 'we need to
>haul ass' makes this show dog shit to me. What am I missing?

Rick is perfectly likable and portrayed in a realistic manner; he's gone from balancing his desire to do the right thing and keep his humanity while ensuring the survival of the group to being 100% about ensuring the survival of the group at ANY cost, including killing people. His arc alone is worthwhile. Herschel's arc in season two was well played and written.

You're just flat missing everything then. You don't get it and it's not for you. You want the show to be something that it most certainly is not.

...a group of six to ten rag tag survivors are smart

forces have been wiped out? I haven't read the comics,
so I'm hoping there is some logical explanation but it
seems like a big hole.

Also, keep in mind that

1)It's a pretty popular trope in zombie flicks that the govt is either gone or ineffective

2)In a truly apocalyptic scenario, gotta figure out the deserter rate has to be off the meter, LOL.

Imho, following a group of survivors in relatively small towns is pretty realistic as opposed to them roaming around in D.C. but not explaining the back story....we know as much as they do.

is that the CDC has been run down for a while now. I'm guessing whatever was usable or salvageable has already been used and/or salvaged. If there were guns and gear out there, I just assumed they were either out of ammo and/or unneeded for the survivor(s) left in the CDC.

Well maybe not Kim Jong but Rick's on full desensitized, any means necessary for the survival of the group mode. When he killed dude with the machete and left ol boy out to be eaten by walkers, I was like "holyshit!" Rick even seems to be detaching himself emotionally from Lori. I think the main reason why he didn't kill Hershall was because he needs someone to cultivate that land.

I think they tried to make it clear that Rick wasn't as far gone as Shane quite yet, from that scene between him and Hershel when he opened his eyes. I also felt that the anguish he was feeling outside with Lori was him coming to grips on what he just did in the other cell block, not
so much with Lori.

While both of those kills were brutal, they were justified. Obviously Tomas, but Andrew also tried to attack Rick when Tomas got got. Instead of risking having a resentful Andrew around, it was safer to eliminate the problem.

False.... give their relationship some credit, haha. Rick appreciates Hershel for a helluva lot more than just his farming abilities.

He's as far as gone as Shane. Shane may have made some of his choices for selfish reasons as opposed to the general safety of the group, but it's obvious they are borrowing heavily from his playbook. Imho Rick's behavior these two episodes have JUSTIFIED Shane's behavior the first two seasons...there has not been once choice Rick made that Shane would have argued with. (although old Rick wouldda had a fucking fit) His words were prophetic as far as the kill or be killed mentality it looks like they will be dealing with this year.

Tomas and Andrew show that to a tee.

But Shane also would have smoked Axel and Oscar without question.... he never would have tolerated those two to live, especially when they know where Rick & Co. are located.

And regarding Shane from previous seasons... I think most people (myself included) saw the logic in Shane's decisions, it's just that his *methods* of trying to act on those decisions were way out of line.

So I wouldn't go so far as saying Rick's actions this season "justify" Shane's from last season... just that Rick sees the wisdom in tying up loose ends.

Rick is just a leader. Being a good leader, you have to adapt and take tough choices which Shane couldn't do ie shooting zombie Sophia.

I wasn't expecting that level of brutality from him. That was some no mercy, Shaka Zulu "Never leave an enemy behind" shit.

And then he chased little dude through the prison, and locked him outside leaving him for zombie beef jerky? That was straight up torturous. He wasn't trying to find out why they conspired to kill him. He wanted them DEAD.

>this mothafucker

True, but in any of the previous situations where he had to take a life, he was forced. You could tell Rick didn't really want hostile confrontation. He lacked Shane's "survival of the fittest" animal instincts. Even with the confrontation with the Philly cats at the bar, Rick didn't want to murk those dudes. He was just faster on the draw than them. He even tried to make amends by saving their homie Randall, and you saw how he and Shane butted heads over it.

THIS seems like a new Rick. An "I don't give a fuck" Rick. A Rick that no longer hesitates, he just does. A new Rick that rolled up in the prison and said "FUCK YOU, we're taking this shit...This is OUR PRISON now. GET THE FUCK OUT..." This time, the negotiations come with threats. "If I see you around our people, I will murk you."

He let Tomas know early what the deal was. He peeped Tomas' vibe. Hell, even before they confronted those walkers, he gave Darryl the heads up to drop dude the moment he started acting funny.

Tomas taking a swipe at him and throwing the walker on him, was a certified bitch-made move. Why? Because Rick bitched him. I think it was out of fear as well as hurt pride. He knew Rick was not to be fucked with. He had the prison taken from him, had his food taken, AND was moved to another side of the prison. SALTY. He killed his boy Big Tiny, not because he was infected, but because he was trying to show Rick he had balls, prove his toughness, puff his chest out. His whole style was exaggerated and phony. Rick knew he HAD to go regardless.

True. But actually seeing him back up his words was a shock. And he's still not in full dictator mode, since he obviously seemed shaken over what happened...That's gotta be a mind-trip for him. To have to constantly switch between ice-cold and still maintaining a sense of humanity and care...

Good point. Like perhaps if he'd have taken the lead sooner, things would be different. But there were way too many competing voices and personalities, too many people trying to do their own thing. Him, Shane, Andrea, Dale, Hershel, Darryl...He has them hella organized now.

It feels a lot like Robert Kirkland has been given more creative control. That 8 episode Sophia-is-a-Zombie character arc reeks of Darabont's pacing, whereas now the pacing feels closer to the actual comic books. Not that Kirkland wasn't involved before, but I'm guessing he was more constrained to Darabont's vision, rather than his own.

Mazzara wasn't kidding when he said last season he wanted to bring it closer to the books... and they are fucking killing it with every scene now.

For the comic readers...

I LOVE the deviations from the comics so far this season. It really feels like we're watching an alternate reality based on a few changes here and there in the books, and it's really great to see.

GOOD:
MERL! Early zombie action. Zombiequarium

Bad
Exposition. Dedicating a whole episode to Andrea, Michonne and Da Gov'ner makes much slower going then the breakneck speed of the first two episodes. Pacing still felt better then the farm tho.

UGLY:
Michonne had to have broken the Guinness Book of World Records, 'Longest amount of time an ice grill has been held', lol. It kinda got cartoonish after awhile.

Considering the fact that they haven't dedicated any time to them yet all season, it makes sense that they'd set it up in this fashion.

If you were to tell me before the episode that there would be no Rick/Hershel/Glenn/Lori, it sounds like it would be a bad episode. But the way they built up the Governor was fantastic... and that ending scene?

Daaaaaaaaaaaamn.

Seriously... this might be the best show on TV right now.

Whether the zombies starved to death if they didn't eat. I think eventually they would if they are in an area with no humans and like 1,000 other zombies.

as much as lori is a bitch, she redeemed herself in my book with this last episode.

as for Carl, he is now near badass status, he's balls dropped super fast.

How are they supposed to feed this baby? I might've missed it, but did they pick up Similac during one of the drug store runs? One of the few women they have is lactating?

Why didn't somebody hug the kid?

No words on T-dog.

I didnt think it would come so early in the season. That was an intense episode. Still think its bullshit that baby was even born. No way in hell she is able to keep a healthy baby full term with out regular food, water, and medical care. Plus what is the baby going to eat now that mom is gone? I know they touched on that for next episode. But yeah bullshit. This season has been fantastic though.

put the baby in his zombiequarium, and probably murder merle (one of them dixon brothers is dying soon, me thinks). that way you don't lose any key characters, and it makes him hateable and horrible.

...and fired a shot to trick Maggie into thinking he did.

But Carl's turned into a hard little dude, and his eyes are wide open to what's going on. I don't think he'd leave his mom to reanimate and potentially pop up to bitch and nag and annoy the group.

I think it happened off-camera so the audience didn't have to watch a child shoot his mother in the head.

*Spoilers obviously*

Those last 10 minutes
Lori's words to Carl, the baby being born, him having to be the one to put his own mother down.
She knew Rick couldn't and most likely wouldn't do it or maybe he's just been through so much she didn't want to make him do that.

The thing I loved about it is how Herschel could have delivered it and at that point he was up and moving around and could have. He had trained Carol how to do it also. Both of them were missing and separated at the time.

All that preparing was worth nothing cause Maggie had to do it and Lori died because of that. Shows you that in the world they live in now nothing can prepare you for anything.

I'm a big time reader of the comic series and I love the direction they're going in!

Damn.

Just when his character was transitioning from "waste of space" to at least "active support goon"...lol I guess there was no room for THREE 12-stack of pancakes eatin',country-strong, Brawny Towel posin, big football muthafuckas on the team (T-Dog, Big Tiny, AND Oscar). lol smh

But it's interesting he was killed just as he voiced his displeasure over the treatment of the remaining two prisoners. There were shades of Dale in his opinion. I wonder if the writers/producers were attempting to use him as balance, to keep the group (and the vibe of the show) from going full "survival of the fittest"...

I'm on the fence about Lori though. She was annoying, but to see Carl lose him mom like that was tough. And I'm thinking Rick may feel some guilt over how he left things with her.

I scratched my head a bit at Andrew's (salty little bitch prisoner) plan. I understand that he wanted vengeance on Rick. I understand he wanted the prison back, and the others gone. But once he let those walkers into the compound, then what? Was he going to control/kill them all? I'm guessing he figured he could join with Oscar and Axel again. But what if they would have been killed during the attack? Then what?

And as hype as I was for Michonne, "Apocalypse India Arie" has been pretty lackluster. I'm hoping they give her more to do.

Otherwise another good episode. They've been on a major roll.

alright, so i don't have the link (might have been Entertainment Weekly, i forget), but kirkman confirmed that Lori is indeed dead, and going forward they will deal with Carl shooting her and how it affects Rick. She's listed as being in 4 more episodes, but i think those will be flashbacks. also, kirkman denied the whole lori as a zombie thing. he could have said it to throw people off, but that's not the impression i got.

if ya a comic reader you know that once Lori dies, Rick kinda starts to lose it & finds a telephone that he thinks he can use to talk with her & they have conversations with each other. You saying she'll be in future eps I wonder if they'll forgo the whole phone thing & just have her appear as a hallucination that only Rick can see.

The Good:

Watching this show over the past few years was like dating someone you really like, but don't feel that spark. Then one day they do something so romantic, so sexy, so giving that you start see them in a different light and realize what you've had along was special. What set my heart a flutter was them killing off a hated character in a truly fucked situation, geting rid of another character who's been dead weight, threw in ample amounts of gore and zombie killing, and them making Carl's childhood the most fucked up ever televised. It makes life of the kids from Wire, Season 4, look like an episode of Entourage.

The Bad:

Not bad in the 'it sucked sense'... quite the opposite. While they are re-writing the story lines (some for the better, some for the worse) I think this episode proved they have no problem getting as fucked up as the comic & R rated horror flicks. Last episode I was lamenting at how The Governor's storyline seemed kinda boring for people familiar with the comic and those who aren't since the show has gone out of its way to paint a 'This guys an asshole' sign over his head. This episode shows they can still surprise the viewer...I saw none of this coming at all. It's a superb presentation of horror in a film medium.

The Weird:

LOL@Carl eyefucking a teenager when he hasn't even hit puberty yet. That flirt shit is creepy.

I figured the t-dog reference was vague enough since the others were silly and it would be taken tongue in cheek as opposed to a reference to his death.

I think the Tyrese character is someone we are interested in introducing at some point. We still have Morgan and Dwayne, who are out there from the pilot. We are interested in them. There are new characters that will be original too the series. Not coming straight from the comic book."

Are they eventually going to introduce this character even though he has been missing from all the events in Atlanta until now? Since we all know T-Dog isn't Tyreese and Oscar, who looks strikingly similiar to the comic version hasn't been announced as Tyreese, is it possible tey won't even bother?

Also, is this version of the Governor really Philip or Brian Blake?

is a way to add Tyreese-like elements to the show, without being pigeonholed by Tyreese's actual storyline from the comics.

If that's right (and I hope it is), then I'm digging the way they're introducing the relationship between Oscar and Rick. Trial by fire, right?

And having Axel around is also a pretty nice addition to the crew too.

A large part of Tyrese's character was in his relationship with Rick. At this point, Daryl is way more like Tyrese's character & could organically uses some of his storylines without it being forced

Using some of these named characters from the comics (like the Governor, Michonne, Axel, etc.) pigeonholes their arcs (in a sense) to their established storylines to appease the comic fans.

*****minor comic spoilers*****

Daryl is the muscle like Tyreese, but no one would claim that him and Rick are *close*. We've never seen any heart to heart between the two like we saw with Tyreese.

The reason why I'm hoping Oscar pick up some of Tyreese's characterizations is specifically because of how they met. "Trial by fire" and all that. Axel begged for his life, but Oscar didn't give a fuck if he lived or died. But when the chips came down to it, he knew the best path for self-preservation was aligning himself with the group.

Why have this new character pick up some of Tyreese's storylines? Look at the success with Daryl. It gives them more flexibility to have some characters be wild cards while still hitting some of the major plot points from the comics.

the entire group has grown close over the last two seasons, even if we haven't seen a heart to heart between Rick & Daryl. You see Daryl peel out to get the baby formula?

Like, Glen said to Oscar & Axel, they're a family. they all been through so much together. Personally, Daryl is his own character who doesn't need Tyrese's stories. All Daryl needs if for Merl to see his brother fighting beside the man who left him for dead- that conflict is gonna be great & I can't wait to see Darryl handles it.

I like the way Oscar's character has been introduced. doesn't change the fact that he would need Tyrese's intro & build up to properly execute his stories, imo. Oscar is still just a prisoner being introduced to the group, Tyrese was one of the leaders of the group, on the level of Glen.. Oscar can't just use Tyrese's stories, imo without it being forced

I never mentioned anything about following Tyreese's story with Oscar. I originally stated introducing "Tyreese-like elements" into the show without actually being tied down to Tyreese' storyline. I was specifically alluding to Rick and Tyreese's relationship as a "Tyreese-like element".

And of course they're all family because of what they've been through. But again they've never built up the relationship between Rick and Daryl outside of "loyal enforcer". There's nothing near what we've seen between Rick and Hershel, for example.

Again, my point was introducing those Tyreese-elements without actually introducing Tyreese. This way if they actually *did* introduce Tyreese, they can go down an alternate storyline with him, without sacrificing what made "Rick & Tyreese" so great in the comics.

After the fucked up situation with his daughter & her boyfriend, he nearly sacrificed himself on a rage fueled near suicide mission

But that has nothing to do with his relationship with Carol & get caught with his dick in Michonne' mouth. Tyrese was a very cool character who had some interesting conflicts...

I don't know why people keep comparing him to the show's new black guy Oscar. Far as I can tell, their only similarities so far are being bigger black guys. Can't these black male characters be their own characters? Sheesh

While it's clear the show diverges from the show at certain points, it's also clear that they're keeping several things from the comics (like we saw in this episode).

Since we still have no idea what's gonna happen with Tyreese, maybe it's prudent to not just throw key comic plot points out there either.

either way, I'm not going to tip toe around minor spoilers based around characters that haven't even shown up in the show yet, if they will at all

>but its clear that the show is following the book *loosely*
>and not *closely*

Glen Mazzara specifically stated they're moving closer to the comics, and we've seen that a number of times already this season. In only 5 episodes this season has already stayed truer to the comics than both of the previous seasons.

>
>
>and those were minor spoilers

A spoiler's a spoiler. And I'd actually heavily disagree... those were MAJOR plot points in the comics.

> mainly about a character who hasn't showed up at all in the show

So... the possibility still exists for that character to show up? A spoiler's still a spoiler and we've seen that anything can happen in the show.

This is what I said:

> this season has already stayed truer to the comics **than both of the > previous seasons.**

Of course I'm aware of the deviations. And the show is always going to deviate in meaningful ways from the comics. But my point was this season was already far more truer to the comics than the first two seasons ever were.

You're trying to defend commenting casually about spoilers from the comics, yet the fact of the matter is those spoilers become MUCH more dangerous when both the producer and ***what we see on screen*** have proven that the show is moving closer to the comics.

So no, posting spoilers is not okay.

Book 3 of that series came out 12 years ago, so is it ok to post spoilers for that too?

The show has deviations from the source material too.

Do you realize how inane the "source material is old!" argument is when it comes to this stuff?

Do you also realize that most people haven't even heard of the source material until the show came out? And may be reading through them now?

Yeah, and I just don't care about spoilers like that. After a year or so I just couldn't care less. That's on me, not the person talking about it.

he was locked in the yard with like 50 zombies....
somehow he survives AND finds a way back in even though Rick locked the door on him?

T-Dogg was the catalyst for the whole Merle/Daryl as racist jerks angle early on so I won't say he was a waste of a character
just underachieved. plus the alternative was probably him as a neck jerking funny punchline snapping "brother" so whatever. he went out like a G at the end of the day

they explained the zombie mules effectively. adds a nice lil angle to things now since ppl realize that zombies can be USED to benefit humanity
i think that's why the Governor is preserving the heads of zombies......

i wish they explained the layout or showed the inside of the prison better
apparently there are 100s of zombies freely roaming inside of the prison
that can be easily lost just but cutting into a boiler room for a couple of minutes
and somehow the 100s of zombies inside the prison can't find the ppl living in there with them despite ppl freely coming and going, guns going off inside the prison, etc
i wouldn't be surprised if the girls who ran into the cell to get away from the zombies are just miraculously chilling in the prison yard next episode.

2 things:

-there are parts of the prison that are locked down, walkers can't break locks or pick them-that would be enough to keep them at bay and from running over
-they haven't been chilling, but you may not have seen ep 5 yet so you wouldn't know if that's the case but yeah they're putting in work

it's obvious pandering. she just walks into an open area, slices up a bunch of walkers, and it's supposed to be cool because.....?

maybe I'm wrong because I wish it weren't so obviously tossed into make this episode less boring and add one action scene per 15 minutes etc.

She'd been cooped up in Woodbury for days without her sword and she felt like a caged animal. Yes, I see what the writers are doing there. Savage Black woman needs to kill to feel good. See she cracked a slight smile when she was done?

It was analogous to Rick going all crazy in the prison. He didn't know how to handle the weight of that emotional gut punch so he acted out the only way he could.

They both needed to kill zombies, just to do it. It helped them cope with their respective situations.

as the poster below states, she's kept zombie mules so she knows they can be contained; also, she's outnumbered in this community. She knows JUST how easily this all could go bad. As ruthless as she is w/that blade - all it would take is ONE dude w/a gun to end her.

It was a bad decision all around.

Maybe it just dragged her body around the corner, then stumbled over to where Rick eventually found it.

But... eating bones? Just because they didn't show her skeleton doesn't mean it ate her *bones*. (especially since nothing else in the scene pointed in that direction)

but in this show we've also seen zombies climb fences and use tools, which are WAY more egregious errors of zombie "lore".

Dragging a corpse doesn't violate that lore, and it's been used in several movies before (in terms of pulling on a person, not necessarily a corpse).

With that said, your whole point was about eating her bones. Again, there was zero evidence of that in the scene, so "dragging" seems a much more plausible explanation for no body than eating her actual bones.

Greg Nicotero said on the Talking Dead that it ate her. Good point about the bones and all, doesn't make any sense.

-only 1 day at the most has passed since Lori died
-the large bones (ribcage, skull, spine) impossible to eat or digest

A pack of zombies could do it but not one by itself

did you really just write that. i mean really? you care if one Zombie could've ate all of her?

the point is she got ate. her spiritually and psychologically destroyed husband goes to find her body, a body that was left by their son who shot her so she wouldn't turn itno a Zombie. this world is hell, that's the only point that matters. all this could he have ate her alone shit is petty and dorkish

trying to get to the meat?
these zombies can starve and all that shit, we've seen them be voracious to the point of consuming a large amount of shit in one sitting
that being as it is I think 'we haven't seen a zombie do it before' isn't a good reason to say they can't do it
we've seen fresh zombies pretty much go all out on humans and climb fences and all this other shit-hell, Shane was on Rick like a fucking soup sammich because his body wasn't decomposed so he had full use of his muscles and all of his strength-so to say it doesn't make sense for a flesh-crazed zombie to be able to eat a whole person is really stupid as fuck at this point
it's not like Lori had ass and tits for day in the first place, sheesh niggas

so that's a moot point
instead of saying 'it can't happen' naysayers need to understand that we're seeing what these things are capable of
they seem to have individual traits like real people do-remember it isn't magic or mysticism, it's science that made these things how they are
who knows what sorts of things we'll see these geeks get into?
they've already said these zombie aren't like other zombies from movies and shit, you see that in the comic if you read it

I'm starting to think these zombies are exhibiting human qualities, now that we know they can starve too
like any starving animal, they may get desperate and become selfish and unwilling to share food
considering how long they've been in that prison it's a possibility the zombie was on some 'fuck these other niggas' and went for self

In response to Reply # 250

They're gonna play it out like a mystery it looks like in the next episode but I think she's dead but its not gonna be from the walkers. My theory is that during all the chaos and everybody scrambling that Axel took a desperate opportunity and grabbed Carol and probably raped and killed her quickly and left her somewhere hoping the walkers will get to her to cover up the crime. He was the only one unaccounted for during the whole thing and we didn't see him or where he was until the end of the episode.

They are staying pretty close to the books and switching plot lines no spoilers but suffice to say something similar does kind of happens in the books so I wouldn't put it past them.

the way I'm seeing it is they found Carol's knife and she's alive, it's a play off that passive/agressive shit they two characters embody

They made it a point to have those scenes with Rick holding the gun to his head, then an episode or two later Oscar makes the *big* choice to side with the crew. He's going to have to earn their trust, but I think Oscar is on the up-and-up from now on.

*****minor comic speculation*******

This is actually what I was kinda hoping for... Oscar could fill in the Tyreese role, while the actual Tyreese goes in completely new direction.

Even though I have no idea what context Tyreese is gonna be used in, I hope they take him in a completely new direction.... maybe even an antagonist to the group?

It would be a HUGE swerve from the comics and would definitely piss off a lot of people, but it feels like the type of big twist that could really differentiate the show from the comic.
