shit this joint is mos def Roots' most complex record to date. Like Quest said somewhere on the board he makes music not beats. and this record proves his words.
i copped the CD from the HMV store in Hong Kong and Birthday Girl is on it too. but it's not the last track cuz there's an outro titled Wanne-iCal after BG. I wonder if the US release has this too?

Criminal or Rising Up...sheesh.. Rising Down is the PERFECT lead off track. Every time I play it Im like "DAMN that shit bangs!" lol
Honorable mentions go to Get Busy, Singing Man, Becoming Unwritten and for some reason I cant get "I will not Apologize" chorus outta my head today...yesterday it was the one for "Criminal" ...SO good n catchy.
Even though it has its off balance moments..its over a nice listen.
Though Rising Down and I Can't Help It are especially dope. Like most though I have a ever changing list of favorites the more I listen. I usually rock around 92 bpm. (c) Dilla
On the strength of Mos' classic intro verse, which I've had running through my head since the pre-order landed. Also diggin' Not Apologize, which has a Dr. Dre meets Fela vibe.

criminal is my #1 being that this is the week i got word off the sean bell verdict disaster...this hits home really well. and the flow on saigon's verse totally makes up for the difference in subject matter. his aggression keeps the !!!!!! from the previous tracks going. this album hits and dont really let up much, and even when it does it still has alot of 3-d type contrast.
rising up is my shit, yo...nuff said.
im thinking about how i can get people to get this shit. i know im gonna buy more copies when i can afford it, but till then whats the best way to spread the word?

I Can't Help It is just some absolute next ish . . . the rumbling low end noise, the 80's like vocal sample chorus, the incredible deliveries, it's unlike anything I've ever heard before.

Been giving the album a really good listen for a week now, and it seems to me that I may be in the minority but; Criminal is in dire need of a remix. Don't get me wrong, the poetry & subject matter is on point but i'm not feeling the track like that. The music doesn't really mesh with the message. Needs to be HARDER!

Maybe I'm rhythmically challenged but am I the only one that can't follow the count once P.O.R.N. starts his verse. I get a 16th ahead (or is it behind) and don't even notice until the chorus comes back in. Somebody? I'm not sure if it's I will not apologize or singing man that wins for me. But I have to admit that P.O.R.N. is ripping it on whatever song. He's my favorite
