Here's my matrix....

-Cool Edit Pro 2.0

-Compaq Evo N160C lapteezy

-ASR-X-PRO(The red jawn)<<<< my OS just crashed, I'm finna cop a MPD 16 jawn.

-Tascam Portastudio: Dig it...I'm using the portastudio as a mic-preamp for Cool Edit. So when I record my vocals, live bass, live guitar or percussion, I use this as the pre.

-Punk ass $40-dollar radio shack mic.

-Yamaha 5-string bass.

-Acoustic guitar

-Djembe

My setup is a barebones straight-forward approach but it delivers and I've got a somewhat smooth workflow to it but I just got a promotion at work so I'm finna upgrade my whole situation.

wow... how do you like those focals? They are on my long term wishlist (actually, I really want the twins, but I haven't heard either)

loads of cool gear here.

very cool, looks like a great sounding rig... I met a guy who played electric kalimba once, he was jamming.

i had the mackie hr824s previously

and when i first got the focals i was like wtf???

$2300 and they sound like shit.

then i realized that was a good thing

if something is wrong...you cannot miss it
put too much bass in my mixes (they dont carry bass like the mackies) at first...but now

i can say i'm all the way onboard.

i had planned on copping the focal sub...but now its toward the bottom of the list (i will cop...but i still wouldnt mix with it on...only to double check the bass or impress some clients).

thanks man...

Yeah, that just confirms that I want the Focals... I think I'm gonna get the Twins and no sub when I do make the jump.

My next studio upgrade is going to be room treatment though (I've already done some, but I think I need some more for my live room).

i like it..still tryna dig through the features..i traded my microkorg for it (i miss it to death) ..its great because it has plenty of patches from the motif family of sounds..very realistic patches. i like the ability to shape the tone of the sounds w/ the knobs.. i wanted the mo6 but my budget wont allow lol.

^^^Now, that's what most new jacks rock, so there's nothing wrong with that. I'm a golden-age kid so I'm more analog, but I also like to work with my hands more. I have been working with software more and more though. Before I was strictly hardware, but I've lately been mostly using the hardware to build the foundation of the beat and then do everything else with software. I still make beats totally with the hardware and heck... sometimes I'm doing whole tracks with the computer. It just depends on what kind of a mood I'm in I guess.

My current setup is rather small:

Numark mixer (not a great mixer but its very easy to use)
PT o1 turntable (my wife broke my main TT so I use this one for making music and digging)
Dell Inspiron 11oo laptop
Cool Edit Pro 2.o
Akai MPC 3oooLE (best drum machine I've ever used)

The once and future Master

my best purchase had to be the jazz bass.

or perhaps the sampletank/soniksynth soft synths-for the price you get so much to play with.

Hey man, if you think these are some long lists, you should see my wish list!!! lol.

where do I begin?

SP1200 (period) I don't do everything with that machine, but it's still my bread and butter. My fav hands down. If I had the sequencing of the MPC and the simplicity of the SP's workflow in one machine I'd be in heaven. Despite having to move/incorporate other hardware into my "toolbox" the SP1200 is still my favorite machine. It's got a dope sound /crunch to it that the MPC lacks. (which in my opinion almost sounds too flat) I like the MPC, but I feel I have to work with the sounds more to get a fatter sounds with them. (or layer more drums sounds to beef up the kicks)
