Jumanji: You are sure these will be dope right...
I don't hear that much creativity in the sample use. Kind of like a "Driving me Wild" but with not as deep a groove. I like the piano, but the overa;; sonic quality of this beat feels lacking. No interesting changes or developments. Verdict: shos potential, but not dope...

Automatic: Cool. Not incredibly creative chopping, but it seems that's what this beat called for. But I want to hear another element to set this apart from the formula you are following.

+California Soul: This is an ill intro. Woah, then that hi-hat and shaker come in are just don't sit in the rhythm quite right. I want to hear a section that cuts out the word "California" and just has that "soul-oul-oul..." part going. That is where the rap would go. That pindrop black space you keep leaving is getting old. You need a new fill/flip technique for variety. Again needs more changes.

Keep rocking them.

James Bondrock: Got Damn! That rappers wack. Lyrics and delivery both need to stay in the bedroom a few more years. James Bondrock and Robizzy are both really corny names. The beat...didn't move me.

Sorry, Duke.

What good it is: A lot better. That guitar is all over the place, but it still works. The rapping is better on this song. The songwriting needs to be more appealing for people to listen to, subject matter wise.

Peace.

Sparkle Diagonal Forest: Apt title. Original sound. I probably wouyld rock this, but I can appreciate it. Pretty repeditive, kinda like a young Matmos.

Rising sun: I like the initial sample, but those organ samples that layer on top when the beat drops in clash to my ears. When that cuts out, this shit is really in the pocket......You know what, the organ makes more sense when I heard it the second time. Maybe the drums dropping in the beginning is enough and you can save the organ for later in the track. I like this one.

Nas is Like: Like it after the first 26 seconds, when it gets lower. Vocals sound to sped up. Takes some power out of Nas' verse--prob not the desired effect of a remix...good luck with clearance (shea right.)

Keep building.

Sparkle - Really repetitive. Started out cool though.

Rising Sun - Like the idea. Could use some bass. Comes off a bit Nintendo-y.

Old Men - The title makes me laugh at the breath sound. Pretty tight.

Ghetto - Sounds nice and full for the most part. I like the way you pieced this one together.

Old Men: I likes... Sounds like a poor man's version of Luda's "Stand up" without the vocal sample. I really like the drum programming as it has an old school vibe without sounding just plain old.

Ghetto Tech: I like the filtered strings but this track overall just kind of bores me. The sounds other than the filtered ones don't do it for me either. Still the programming is good though.

Help me sing it: Lyrics aren't doing it for me but the vibe is right.
The programming is fresh sounds are nice but the arrangement and orchestration could be stepped up IMHO. I would definitely rock this if I had never heard Portishead and it was still 2001.

Wet Ragga: Once again your programming skills are the highlight. I love your drum selection and the piano is nice. I like this one only slightly less than Old Men..

tight work.

Rehab: I like everything but the drum programming.....or maybe it's the drum sounds. They're too clean, sound like set that comes w/ the sampler/keyboard. Everything else is real dope. Bassline sits real nice.

Now and then: Both these I can hear becoming full songs. The piano patch could be mixed a little lower. I like the beat programming on this. You use space well. Great ear for melody. I want to hear what these instrumentals become.

Good ish.

Rehab: Overall, it's aiight. I'd either use a brighter piano, or bring the moodier piano more to the front.

Now and Then: A nice groove. I'd use a different voice on the piano riff that comes in at about the 8th measure--a synth, perhaps?

Alchemy: I like the sample, but I'd find a way to chop it and preserve its pacing, rather than just pitch bending it. The piano and distorted guitar/synth are great, and really complement the mood. Good stuff.

Rehab: In my headphones I can hear how the bass would be overpowering but in my speakers it sounds great. Granted I don't have the optimal setup so I should probably do mixes in my headphones.

Now and Then: I felt like the piano gave the whole thing a more mellow tone. Would the voice change be more of a move toward "hip-hop" or just a better sound in general?

Thanks again for the input.

Sensei: I like the way this develops. That change in the flute sample is ill. Needs to be fleshed out a bit. Get a good keyboardist (maybe you?) to lay some nice full chords, and some vox, and it's there.

Lean: Nice crazy groove, real potential here, needs more knocking drum sounds, tho. A some more high end, maybe not cymbols but a cabasa, a guiro. And a lead melody to drop in on the hook.

Good looking on The Philosophy!

Peace.

Lean - Cool drums. Could use a lot more melody and some bass.

Sensei - A little bland. Like the melody but it could use some background sounds to fill out the sound space.

Kind of has this east coast/west coast crossover sort of feel to me...nice little bass line on the joint, too. REAL ol skool though..lol

Tribute: So did you use some of the same samples as Dilla. It's hard for me to comment on that...

Dream Seq: Started sloppily, I'm still waiting for it to settle in. It just changed, but got even more disjointed...Some of these samples don't work together. And all this reverb is making my head spin. Next.

Nice love: I like this emcee, but man, that track just ain't hot enuff for the way he's flowing! All the melodic elements are too fluttery, the groove needs more nuts. Ha! Guiliani. I knew this cat was NYC.

Back in: I have the exact same issues with all these tracks.

Peace.

and On the Tribute I didn't use a sample he used.
It just reminded me of the Mochilla shit So I decided to do that.
but I'm taking the vocals off, and letting No Sleep spit to that.

I'm not really a big fan of modern rock music, but these songs weren't bad at all. The mixes sounded like they could still use a little work, but I can dig these. I didn't think that the lead singer was a bad vocalist like Toejam was saying. I thought she sounded fine for rock music where the lead singer doesn't necessarily have to be an outstanding vocalist..

Me Im Jus me: Sample is nice, nice club jam. Emcees are average but they sound enthused.. Tight work

On and On: This is ready! My only small gripes are the mix but that may be a taste, and the song isn't too terribly original but that's not necessarily a bad thing..

Wild west Philly: Mood is sinister, great soundscape. Production would get killed by an A-list emcee. Reminds me of "the Doors" for some reason and that is a great thing.

Thanx for the feedback.. Yeah, I didn't didn't mix the vocals on either track, I just mixed the beat, and I'm not completely happy with the vocal mixes especially the singing on the hook on the track On and On.

Me I'm just me: Like it. But it is screaming for a bassline. Cuz that kick ain't enough to rattle the trunk.

On and On: I like it, but I would do this the same as Champion (which was a bit more creative with sample-taking) and give most of the writing credit to the sample sources. But I know you heard it and just had to loop it up, and I bet it's fun to rock live at shows.

Peace

JahRockn: Lovin it! Production is nice, Emcees are involved and sound like they had a party in the booth.. The special efx put it over the top.. Some of the ad-libs may have been too hot but this stuff is official for sure..

We cry together: Production sounds pretty good but the mix is a little thin. I like the singers voice and how serious she is in her delivery.

Fire Starters: Again the production sounds good, the mix is a little thin on this one too, maybe its just the compression. The production sounds like Swizzy and the emcee is just average..

Overall your stuff is pretty official and sounds comparable to most of what out on the airwaves today.

Add me on myspace and keep me posted about what you're up to.

Cool! Thanks for the feedback. I should clarify, though: I'm also looking for feedback on the tracks on the "beatsbykeynote" page. The JahRock'n tracks are produced by the crew, whereas I'm creating the tracks on my personal page.

Anyway, good lookin out either way. And, I'll return the favor w/ some feedback for your tracks:

- No Luv: A good job of filtering and flipping that sample. That TB 303 esque growl on the bass is a nice touch. Solid track.

- Still Got Love: I think you need a little oomph on the snare. I like that bassline: simple, clean, effective. On the vocals, I got a little tired of the stacking/phasing on the lead. I think that works on the hook, but you could go for a dry sound, and still keep the funk vibe you're going for.

- Down where we're from: Catchy rhythm, and the emcees are holdin' it down. I'd like to hear a little more high end; the pads (or sample?) are a little muddy. Dope hook that fits the mood of the track.

- PoP: Nice work. Sa-Ra/Bilal-esque vocals work w/ that track. I'd vary the hi-hat a touch; it's too repetitive on the fours.

I'm feeling your style overall.

old man was the only beat i liked on toe jam's, the huffing did get kinda annoying after awhile, ghetto tech is just not my style, thats why im not feeling it, help me sign...don't really know what to say just seemed kinda boring , drums were to low too, wet ragga is an okay beat , kinda seems like a beat they would play on cartoon network , like toonami or something lol

10 MPH Whiplash: You're doing some interesting things w/ rhythm, but it doesn't really go anywhere. Your mixing sounds muted, which causes the track to lose energy. Ditto for Yard Bird.

In Excess is kinda hot; good stuff. It sounds like a good club banger; the only issue is that it might be a bit dated, sound-wise. But that's always a tough call--a track's dopeness can overcome an otherwise dated approach.

Keep at it!

the ORIGINAL POST.

If you hit the one that's under the post on the bottom of the page, your post will be a REPLY to that post. Good way to become hidden and your music never listened to.

But if you hit the reply button that's under the very top, original post, your reply will go down at the very bottom, and people will be more likely to see it as its own reply, and take a look.

Go ahead, give it a shot, feel free to practice a little bit in here.

Trust me, you're not the only one by a long shot.

But again, if the post goes in the wrong place, it's more likely to get overlooked...so one is a necessary requisite for the other.

That said, I'll see about getting my listen on to a few more pages this evening and speaking upon what I hear. Sometimes these posts are a little overwhelming in terms of sheer volume, but I can go at em a bit at a time.

I really liked the beat...mainly how it was laid out, the melodies are fresh and I liked how the background sounds were imported. I think that snare is a little too heavy imo, its stronger than the kick. overall tho, a nice joint. pCe!

finished this one up, more or less, last weekend.

http://www.zshare.net/audio/39585287d52392/

I'd posted the rhythm track to it up before (dijeridu, talking drum, triangle, djembe, Turkish drum). I added vocals, a fingerstyle guitar in DADGAD, a slide part in DADDAD, and another dijeridu part.

Would love some feedback... so far, my mixing and editing skills suck horrendously.
