Ok, I have to guess about the exact cause of what is irritating me in that track. It's definitely not the overall feel or the melodic content; I like both. But I guess it has to do with the stereo placement of your drum sounds and/or the decay of the snare. Lets see. The snare is a bit more at the right side, the hats are more left. Now sometimes that can be cool but here all the sounds fall apart a bit too much. And that is not due to the stereo placement alone but also (probably even mainly) because you left the snare with a quite large and 'rough' decay (well...one of the two lengths you've used that is, cause I hear one snare with a long decay and then a shorter one etc.). Now every time this long decay-snare hits the beginning of the sound is in line with the hat (and that merges to one sound so to speak) but then the snare(decay) sound is so much longer (than the hat) and it' s more to the right too and somehow the sound seems to fall apart then; the drums sounds stay seperate entities.
Maybe if the decay of the snare were a bit 'neater' I wouldn't have any problems at all, even with the stereo placement you've used.

The reason you hear differences between the snares is because when I sampled the break, I took one snare from one part of the break then I took another snare about one bar later in the break. The 2nd snare had more of a decay on it than the first. I didn't think about it too much because when I made those drums, it was during a 15 minute beat battle at 5:30am. lol.
All this being said... I've only been making beats since last april so I still have QUITE A BIT to learn about everything. I apprecate you takin the time homie.
The Aura and before dawn have the most full sound, which helps to feel them greatly. But I like your chop skills. Could be a little smoother if you want an emcee to rip them.

good stuff man...your guitar work is on point so i'd think you could start building solid instrumentals if you start picking samples or keyboard/synth riffs and build the guitar around them since that seems to be your strength...in the fashion of "fortitude". "midnight.." is definitely my favorite.

"The Knock" is tight! Honestly, I expected garbage (I've heard a lot of tracks called "The Knock", "That Knock", "St8 Knockin", etc. and they usually suck) but I was pleasantly surpised. Seems too raw to be a radio cut though, imo.

Got Live Trumpets in there playing some licks, and a sample from a classic jazz song in the chorus, see if you can recognize it.
