here it is, folks-

i still cant believe im actually GIVING away all the parts from a song thats not even out yet. this has got to be the first time anyone has sprinkled the producer community like that-just kidding.

these came straight out of an mpc2000xl, so the folder also has the "ALL PROGRAMS & SOUNDS" file, so if you use that machine, you can just load it all up and it will be assigned to pads. otherwise, i hope they can just be loaded into any other program(reason? i dunno). LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE FILES. i will check back in later.

a little more backstory- somebody asked why i wanted to do this. here's why: information is the most powerful commodity on planet earth. and i thought it would be informative to producers to be able to work with a group of sounds WITHOUT the preconceived notion of them coming from a song they already know, but then be able to hear the song AFTER they got to mess with it. at some point, were all just gonna be dirt in the ground, so if somebody can get something out of some info youre sitting on, why hoard it? at least thats how i see it.

so now, you get to mess with these, you can see how somebody else would do with the same batch. when the record comes out, you can see how it got put together and where it came from. who knows; maybe all these versions are gonna sound the same. maybe not. i hope not. i hope theres a crunk version, a house version, a premiered out version, whatever. feel free to get yourmansandthem to do a 12 minute posse cut over the beat you do with this. spit hot ffffaaaayyyiiiiaaaa. go nuts......

and awaayaaaaaaayaaaay we go! c-fred flintstone

by the way, i need a better name than premix, shit is booty. im taking suggestions for a rename.

Use stuffit to open the files!

you can download a version of stuffit at this website:
http://www.dnaseq.co.uk/Downloads.html

just right click on the "Stuffit Expander for Windows (version 7.0)" and save destination as...

But how you open the .snd files after they�ve been unpacked, is a question i can't answer!
I've tried just about everything, but I can't find a program which can read these .snd files on my pc. even though alot of programs claim to be able to convert .snd files to wav or mp3, none of the programs i've tried has been able to read nor convert these shitty files

I've got stuffit to unpack the files, but I can't play them in anything. Still trying to find something to convert these files to .wav.

damn! looks like these .snd files are not so hot. i tried to find any program that would convert them to wav, and nothing seems to work. unfortunately, you cant change the encoding of a file in an mpc. obsidian, if you can open them in goldenwhatever, is it possible to export them as wav files? protools wont even recognize them. wtf?

i will be back later, hopefully with solution.

Huh? I keep on needing to get around to switching up .SND to .WAV... I thought I could do that on the MPC!? someone I know said he has and then backs them up to CDR. Doh'!

it is time consuming, but you can simply just send out the sounds from your mpc and record them as audio on protools or whatever, then chop them accordingly and bounce them as wav. files.

you shouldnt have to do that, at least its not something i did on purpose it is 1 of 2 things:

1-an artifact of converting from snd to wav.

2-any clips at the end of a sound are probably in the original file. the 2000xl naturally truncates the last 5% of every sound when its in a program. so when i chop things, if there is a slight tail in the actual sound, i dont hear it when you play it.

trust me, im not trying to make this hard on anyone. i actually went through a chopped a number of loops into single hits to make this easier to freak.

on a few sounds, yes. a few were loops, and i wanted to avoid any loops, to keep it from being one of those lame ass remix things where you are just moving around different loops at the same tempo as the song.

some of the chops may also make more sense once you hear the song.

some of the chops may also have non-truncated tails that i wouldnt be aware of, as im on an mpc-see above.

or, maybe im just not as slick as you are on the mpc. these are all possibilities.

remember dude, what we are doing here is essentially one big BETA TEST, so if there are kinks, its due to the nature of what we're doing here.

I've just recently decided to mess around with this kind of thing.

There are always difficulties with going from some piece of hardware to a computer and when you introduce the Mac/PC conversion it gets fucked even more.

do you mean you are you on an mpc, and youre finding pads that have values assigned, but no sound assigned to them?

those would be the pads that used to have loops on them. i chopped up those loops and assigned them to different pads/programs to make it easier for people to work at different tempos. then i erased the loops to save space.

all the sounds you have are used in the song. there is only one sound in the outtro that i didnt include, because it just couldnt be reduced to any smaller pieces, and it was in protools anyway-nothing to sweat. there were a number of sounds that i didnt use in the song, but didnt include them, cause i wanted to make the folder as small as possible.

you used ALL the samples, it's just that some of the ones that
sound the same, you used on different buttons, pads, banks etc.
on you sampler. Therefore the sounds in the sample pack that
all "similar" came from one longer sample, and you chopped them
up or re-arranged them according to how you was sequencing them
on your mpc, if I understand correctly. Thanks.

the rhythym section could use some beefing up. Tune the
bass drum so it hits a little MORE harder around the 80-100 hz range, and
verb up the snare and hi hats a little bit. There seems
like alot of dead space between SOUNDS in the track in general
in the track, rhythm, synths etc. Just an observation.

a word of advice-if anybody is going to mess with this, do it BEFORE YOU LISTEN TO ANYBODY ELSES. see, if your first impression of the sounds is your own track, it doesnt give you the same experience as remixing a song youve heard. its totally different. man, this shit is seriously a trip, and fun as hell for me to listen to.

A friend of mine pretty much gave me his entire sample library so I could learn to sample. So I would use a set of samples he had used in a song already and sometimes it would sound completely different and sometimes our minds would be on the exact same level and our songs would sound exactly the same. I still use some of them every once in awhile.

I really appreciate this op RjD2, I have had a ton of fun and I might try to do an electro house or drum and bass one as well just for the hell of it.

those snare rolls kinda through me off, but everything else
is straight for the sound U are going after. If U want
for those snare rolls, try to fade them in, or take the velocity
and gradually come from a smaller velocity to the peak velocity
on the last hit of the snare roll, and see if that makes a dif
for U, as far it sounds, and if U are cool with it. Peace.

great mixing and so forth for the most part.
I would have messed with some filtering on the saw tooth
bass sample, like a low pass autofilter, to have the sound still
bite, but come down periodically, but that's just me.

This is soooo different from what I did. I initially started out thinking about taking it pretty hard and upping the tempo. But I ended up dropping the tempo super low instead.

some of the timing on the hits in the rhythym could be cleaned up
a little, but other wise, U flipped the rhythym in here pretty good.
I'd like the low end in here to be filled out more, but I am
really impressed with the rhythym and transitions U put together
here. Maybe verb up those organ sounds a little bit to give them

i added a couple of shakers ,dusted off the moog,added another kick and snare,the strings were an axelrod sample.so yeah for the most part the samples all came from the pack. only thing i did with the moog was play the bassloop that was in the pack and added a two bar lead
