I didn't see him. I was wondering if they did a sequel would there be anything for him to do. It seems it would be too derivative to have him in distress again.

I want the movie to be as good as the next guy, but come on

Instead of losing a tooth he gets a tattoo
Instead of a tiger there is a monkey
They even have the same damn asian and asian jokes despite switching places.

I'm sure it will be funny becuase it has funny people in it but that trailer makes it look like they mailed it in on the creativity side.

Besides maybe two or three scenes, the pics at the end was the best part again. I don't recommend sitting very close to the screen. Believe me now, thank me later.

then it's right up your alley.

It was expected after the trailer so my expectations weren't too high. It's pretty much the exact same movie just in Bangkok this time insteada Vegas. Zach could do no wrong in the first one & it would've been awesome too see him bat 1.000 again. Sadly that's not the case as he's upstaged by the monkey. The LOL moments in the first turned to smirks for the most part this time. But there are at least 2 or 3 scenes that everyone will be talking about. Specifically 1 for better or for worse.

....at cretain points it feels like an action comedy more than anything else and alot feels recycled...it's kind of a downer in certain respects too..i can't explain it, but you get the overwhelmng sense that guys are seriously just a bunch of people who should never celbrate anything together cause it makes them into idiots...

...in a nutshell, this movie is just an attempt to cash in on that seguel money and while i was already skeptical about this movie, i wouldn't come back for a pt 3

You liked hangover part I?
If you want to see the exact same movie except in Bangkok, you will like hangover part II.
99% of the jokes depend on you seeing Hangover part I and saying “Oh that was funny in Hangover Part I”.
If you did not see Hangover Part I you will not get any of the jokes in the movie. This movie cannot stand on its own.
The main joke of this movie delivers is that events of Hangover Part I are happening again.
I’m not saying I didn’t laugh, because even though a lot of the jokes are just Hangover Part I repeats, Hangover Part I was funny.
Zach Galiafinakis gets really annoying, they go over the top with his character.

BTW, it is going to make $120M over the Memorial day weekend. That’s insane.

They loved it.

They said it was just like the first one except that we he tried to fuck a tranny it was even funnier.

And they had to stay and watch the closing photos (even though one of them had to goo pee real bad.)

Sounds like it's a crowd pleaser.

I really liked the first. This one I nearly left after what seemed like an eternity of unfunny.

Nothing is new. Except trannies, in a bit that was obvious and not funny at all.

The first film toed the line between realistic and total cartoon nicely-- you stayed invested. Here, the writing is terrible, just exploiting the most extreme elements of the characters non-stop. Cooper is an asshole with nothing to do. Galifianakis is unbearably obnoxious. Helms is worst of all, with reaction shots so over-the-top that I cringed every time.

The whole film is mean and kind of sad. The only character I enjoyed was Teddy, the kid who goes missing, who actually seems to have a character and humanity here.

I... I really hated this. Seriously. It's like watching annoying kids quote all the lines from Hangover for 2 hours, while sprinkling in Asian jokes for good measure.

I'm not the most critical person when it comes to comedy movies, but this just had some hack elements to it. I kind of facepalmed at the "Long John Silvers" dialogue, which was the point I realized they weren't going to do anything interesting with the movie.

I laughed out loud a few times, the picture montage was funny at the end, and it wasn't a BAD movie...but please don't make a third one.

the movie was ass.

end of story.

calling folk film snobs because they didn't like a movie is quite sophomoric, which is giving you TOO much credit since you're a dumb ass.

140+ million dollars or not, the movie was a badly rehashed carbon copy of the first one.

and Longo is right, i'll take BRIDESMAIDS over this anyday.

booty bump you've been shoving up your ass throughout this post because you're upset that, quelle surprise, folk don't like THE HANGOVER II?

We're not film snobs, Tek. We just have informed opinions as to why we do and DO NOT like films.

why you seem intellectually incapable of getting this IS NOT beyond me...its just sad.

and guess what? THE HANGOVER II is still a piece of HOT STANKIN SHIT!

*SPOILERS* (well, not really, cause if you saw the first one, nothing will make the second one any better or unspoiled)

like i said in the locked post, i have no problem with a redone version of the original as long as it has heart and some effort to do something new (a la Home Alone 2 or Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me)

But this was utterly predictable in all the wrong ways. where the jokes in the original kept hitting and were generally unexpected, this one didnt even try to bait and switch us. it just baited and then ...happened.

like "oh, they want us to think mr. chow is gonna jump out the ice box. i wonder what will actually happen...oh he jumped out the ice box."

or "oh, they want us to think stu fucked a tranny without knowing she's a tranny. i wonder what actually happened...oh stu fucked a tranny."

or "oh, they want us to think mike tyson will show up for no reason at the wedding. i wonder what will actually happen...oh mike tyson showed up at the wedding and did nothing remotely funny or necessary"

Ed Helms was terribly unlikable. Bradley Cooper and Zach G had their moments. Justin Bartha was fine. The Thai Dad was not funny. Teddy was fine, but mostly was given terrible dialogue and his "dramatic face" was terribly forced. Ken Jeong's abandoning and refinding his cartoonish accent was disjointed and rushed.

The scene with Zach replaying the last night with kids in the role was kinda funny cause the kid was fat, but otherwise made no sense and somehow dragged out what should been a 10 second flashback into what felt like 2-3 minutes.

Im not gonna say I didnt laugh. There are funny parts and funny lines.

Im actually just realizing, I cant remember Todd Philips popping up in an obligatory cameo...did I miss it?

Oh, and Paul Giamatti...jesus, what the fuck. really?

somewhere in the middle it just dragged like ass, but then I thought about the structure of the first one, realized where we were at in that structure in this one, and decided it wouldn't hurt to wait it out a bit cuz I knew some parts to pick it up (along with the reveals) were coming up.

the montage where Zach day dreamed everything as a kid in meditation was the best part of the movie to me. along with the setting shots for the opening credits.

other than that -- meh.

I don't hate it but this is technically a remake. I have to add though, visually it's stunning. Those wide angle shots of Thailand were magnificent. Todd Philip should direct a drama.

I mean, they straight jacked the beats from the first movie and transplanted them to Bangkok for the second. Talk about lazy writing.

But the thing is, it didn't really start off that way. I thought the bits with Zach at home and the "bachelor brunch" at IHOP were inspired, but then we just *had* to get to the business of the plot, which was as goofy and heartless (and admittedly funny) in spots... just like the first one. And the whole thing turns on... marshmallows? Really?

Wasn't mad at Zach, the success of the first one almost demanded he take over the second. Wasn't mad at Ken Jeong, either, although I suspect some of you will be. But Ed Helms' white coonery was a bit much, what with him screaming and jumping and yelling "WHAT THE FUCK" or "WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING!" every 10 minutes. I thought the Paul Giamatti section of the story petered out and felt like a waste. And why didn't anyone call my man Sahir "Pau Gasol?" That's an obvious, yet funny, joke.

Overall, the movie had a few good jokes hampered and hamstrung by a formula that should have been tweaked -- even a little -- even though the audience almost expects the same thing from before. Ugh.

"Hangover 2 lost already." Yeah, but not really. I really hope the word for Bridesmaids continues to build, because it is a much, *much* better movie.

The (packed) crowd that I saw it with ate it up. They're going to make $140 million this weekend. Get ready for Part 3.

In response to Reply # 0

I thought a huge appeal of the first one was that you're just as lost and clueless as the guys...so in addition to being very funny, you get this crazy experience. Hangover 2 brought the jokes, some great scenery, but the heart of the first one, the experience, was missing because you already knew everything was going to happen plot wise. Instead of being a novel experience, it just feels like how can we get as many jokes as possible within this same structure. I thought it actually started off great before they got into the missing person routine.

Funny, but not nearly as immersive because you knew the formula. Ed Helms reactions were ridiculous also.

the first half hour is very good -- it draws back to the original while making things fresh. after they leave the hotel in Bangkok though, shit *really* drags. too many of the set-ups (police sting, tattoo parlor, monks) aren’t funny.

surprisingly, I didn’t mind Jeong that much. maybe because I knew he’d be gooking, or that it was set in Asia, but he was a welcome shot in the arm after the search had gone stale.

I laughed, and I’m glad I saw it (in the same way I’m glad I saw the Star Wars prequels). but this formula is done. the inevitable third movie will be horrible.

Honestly, I thought that was the funniest part about it. The shit was the EXACT same and THAT WAS THE POINT. Hence the phone call at the beginning:

"It happened again."

All Stu wanted was for this wedding/bachelor party to go the exact opposite of what happened last time and what happened? The EXACT same thing.

We went from a missing tooth to a missing finger.

From "you stole the wrong Doug" to "We never had Teddy, sorry"

From "I meant to give you ecstacy not roofies" to "I meant to only give Teddy the drugged up marshmallows"

I got EXACTLY what I was expecting from the movie, and I laughed. Was it as funny as the first one? No, not even close.

Maybe because I'm not a film snob I'm not allowed to say what's a good or bad movie, but fuck it, I enjoyed it, and won't be against seeing it again if someone wants to watch the DVD or download it for $free.99.

I did not need to see a monkey give fellatio etc. This movie was vulgar as an attmept to expand dick and fart jokes as funny.

And the ending 'surprise' cameo was just "alright"

like, you saw the 'II' at the end of the marquee, right?
you do realize sequels tend to go to great lengths to try and outdo the first, right? like, if you didn't expect extreme vulgarity this time out, you're a fucking moron of the highest order. no snark, that's just the honest to god truth and there is no other way to put it.

you've got to be kidding me.

you talk like you expected something highbrow. if you didn't like it, you didn't like it, but taking issue with it's vulgarity is fuckin hilarious because you literally have to be as stupid as Alan to have expected anything BUT a movie that was far more vulgar than the first.

it used the same plot points and jokes that made the first film an original comedy. I enjoyed the film but my thinking throughout most of the movie was "I've seen this before."

It had nothing to do with the characters, because I was delighted to see everyone from the first movie + that drug-running monkey. Alan's flashback was one of the few LOL moments. But the writing and the plot ideas were dull and not as memorable as the first movie.

Helms was over the top. Zach was too stupid and ridiculous, and, like everyone has already said, the movie was the exact same as the first.

Instead of a tiger, there was a monkey.

Instead of a baby, there was an old man.

Instead of losing a tooth, he got a tattoo.

The small, sane member of the crew got lost and they found him just in time for the wedding.

Chang jumped out of something and tackled them.

The ENTIRE movie was them saying, "oh, not this again."

Yes, I expected them to wake up hungover somewhere before a wedding again, but I didn't think the entire movie would be the EXACT SAME blueprint as the first one.

I laughed some, and even laughed kinda hard at couple of parts, but I didn't think it was that good. Maybe if I would have never seen the first one, and all the gags in this were new to me, I would have liked it.

But I had, and I didn't.

i do, however, feel that the reasons you've given are retarded and really don't make any sense. i don't need to 'feel strongly' about it to tell you that.

i mean, you took issue with it being a vulgar movie. lol. like, you know, that wasn't a given the second a sequel wasn't announced.

i don't need to feel strongly to make fun of you for having hilariously stupid reasons for disliking the movie.

as if anyone here went to see Hangover 2 not having loved the original.

We all loved the original or else we wouldnt be in this post or in the theatre with our paid ticket stubs.

I loved the original cause it was hilarious and unexpected and vulgar in all the right places.

This one made zero attempt to make us like any of the characters we already loved! You know how hard it is to make me hate Stu? ...Apparently, not very hard.

This movie had funny parts. It did.

But it most definitely sucked any heart or originality out of the first one and made me want the movie to end sooner. And yet somehow, despite it dragging, the whole thing felt rushed. Not rushed in pacing, but in execution. The movie was obviously written incredibly fast and with little thought for how to make the sequel compliment the first one. The only thing it did was make what was an original, hilarious, buddy flick with a heart, somehow annoying.

Bridesmaids was a much better example of how a movie can be completely gratuitous and disgusting, and also smart, witty, and full of heart.

if the lowbrow nature of the movie is what bothered you, you're a complete jackass or you've been in a log cabin without tv for the last decade, because anyone who didn't expect the jokes in this one to be 10 times more crude and tasteless than the first should be embarrassed to admit as much.

the movie was flawed, missed the magic of the first one, and took a lazy approach creatively by giving us a scene for scene retread of the first. there are plenty of reasons to dislike it, but citing the vulgarity of the movie as one of them makes you look dumber and less sane than alan on a meds-free bender.

...was because this time the vulgarity wasn't executed well. It just seemed mean and sad.

Last time, a naked man sprang suddenly out of the car with a small dick. Here, they zoomed in on the small dick until you knew it was a small dick, and then proceeded to talk about it and look at it for a long time.

Last time, Stu married a hooker. This time, he got sodomized by a transvestite.

Last time, the photos at the end showed Zach getting a beej in an elevator. This time, it shows Stu getting buttfucked and Phil and Chow re-enacting the Vietnam Execution photo.

Do I imagine a world in which someone getting fucked in the butt by a tranny or a parody of a famous murder is funny? Sure. I believe anything can be funny if executed properly. But this film had zero execution. It believes just sloppily throwing vulgarity on the screen will be just as funny as the first time, as if what they accomplished the first time was "easy."

>...was because this time the vulgarity wasn't executed well.

it was executed well imo, it was just a retread. if this was the first movie, people would love it. it's the fact that it's more of the EXACT same that people really have an issue with.

>It just seemed mean and sad.

it's mean, sad, and hilarious. come on.

> Here, they zoomed in on the small dick until you
>knew it was a small dick, and then proceeded to talk about it
>and look at it for a long time.

this was a weak ass laugh, i agree.

>Last time, Stu married a hooker. This time, he got sodomized
>by a transvestite.

i dunno about you, but if that's me and my buddies, the 'holy shit' factor would be off the charts if that happened to one of us. it's sad, mean, i would feel awful for my friend, and i would laugh at him for it. because it's fucked up, and that was the point.

>Last time, the photos at the end showed Zach getting a beej in
>an elevator. This time, it shows Stu getting buttfucked and
>Phil and Chow re-enacting the Vietnam Execution photo.

yeah, but what's the problem? look at it like this: if all this happened to you and your friends, what then? like, i mean, if this is what happened, this is what happened, and you were all drugged and drunk and didn't even know what you were doing. i looked at it like that: if that were my friends? LOL.

i mean.. YO....YOU GOT FUCKED IN THE ASS BY A TRANNY! WTF? HOW'D THAT EVEN HAPPEN????????????

i mean, 40 year old virgin ran with the same exact joke without the visual vulgarity, but we're talking an entirely different movie and BOTH tranny gags were done in a way that fit perfectly in the world they live in.

>Do I imagine a world in which someone getting fucked in the
>butt by a tranny or a parody of a famous murder is funny?
>Sure. I believe anything can be funny if executed properly.

how was this 'executed improperly'? i submit that it wasn't. there is really no way to execute getting butt fucked by a lady boy in a drugged out drunken stupor, it just sort of happened. it wasn't the 'execution' itself, it was the redundant nature of it all.

>But this film had zero execution.

define 'execution'. like, how would you execute those jokes in a way that made you enjoy them?

>It believes just sloppily
>throwing vulgarity on the screen will be just as funny as the
>first time, as if what they accomplished the first time was
>"easy."

peep eddie murphies take on bill cosbys take on eddie's act: it wasn't just a bunch of curses, it had some other words in it. you can't just do a curse show. disck, snot, pussy, and shit! goodnight!

it was lazy and they really didn't try to tell a new story in a new way. but it wasn't just a bunch of vulgarity on the screen and YEAH, all the 'i don't really find a guy getting ass fucked by a thai tranny all that funny' types are kinda taking the snobbish route, because the content is outrageous but it wasn't, in my view, poorly executed or sloppily done. i think the issue people REALLY have is that it's an exact retread.

personally, my challenge to you is to view this movie from the lens of having never seen the first, and then look at it from the lens of having seen it. the difference in quality between the two is the rehashed nature.

Because I was excited about this film and wanted nothing more than to have a similar experience to the first. And I honestly didn't even smile during this movie. The tone felt forced and exaggerated from the beginning, moreso than the first film, and I just felt discomfort and hatred for these three characters (four when you include Chow) that I really liked the first time around.

You can have a totally vile and foul-mouthed and shocking comedy that works. This one just didn't. I first point to the writing, which I felt wasn't up to par with the first. When I try to dig into what I disliked about the writing, I thought there was no sense of camaraderie, the characters seemed one-note, and I didn't root for anyone or have pity for them. I felt all of these things in the first film-- while they were dicks, the friendship was clear, the motivation for bringing Alan was justifiable, and I rooted for them on their journey. Here, none of that.

It's really hard to break down why comedy does or doesn't work because the artform is so damn subjective. But I've laughed at awful, despicable, vile shit before. So it's not because the film is vulgar that I didn't laugh. There's just something in the writing and/or directing and/or acting that makes this one not work-- blame what you will.

i think thats why im a bit reticent bout goin to see Hangover II. i expect much of the same, just ramped up, and i didnt really love or go apeshit insane over the 1st film to warrant even caring bout a 2nd go round. but ima see it on Sunday cos it's playing right after X-Men: First Class at the drive ins lol.

n ye, i found "Due Date" to be a much superior Phillips film than Hangover is/was. i feel like Hangover got mythically overhyped at some point. and to repeat wat a few of u have said, all of this lameness was expected based offa the 1st film. i like the actors involved getting the work and massive exposure (Helms especially), and i know the expectations were plain and obvious for what pt. ii was guna turn out like, but.......if the film sucks, it sucks. no amount of "you shoulda seen this coming you jackass!" justifies someone hating on the opinion: "Hangover/Hangover II kinda sucked". plenty of sequels manage to rock, a lot of em dont. lacking a television to then have the foresight to know Hangover II will be the same medium-funny fare as its original counterpart is a bit ludicrous. to go in watching a film expecting it to suck means u have no reason to see that film in the first place. ppl go because they still hold out hope it's going to be somehow superior to the original, funnier, more inventive with its jokes, not simply taking pt. i and transplanting to different locale and ramping up the crazy.

i guess ill find out on the wknd if im as right as i think i am.

The first one had heart. This one didn't.
The characters were likable in the first, just obnoxious in this.

You don't have to agree with it, but doing the whole internet tough guy thing with anyone who didn't like the movie isn't going to make your argument any more compelling.

because, you know, i've told people i was gonna beat their ass, dared them to step to me, challenged their manhood, threatened and otherwise intimidated people, and all sorts of other things tough guys normally do when trying to flex on someone.

no, no, no.. you're right. i'm totally acting like a tough guy, because what tough guys do is mock absurd, misplaced opinions.

your definition of tough guy leads me to believe you've never been in the presence of a tough guy. if you really think i'm acting like a tough guy, my guess is you're either rod or todd flanders because you've clearly never seen a tough guy or even seen someone act like one. i'm fully convinved that when your dad curses, he says shit like 'fiddlesticks' and 'butternuts', and your mother shrinks in horror at such a profound display of aggression, only later to ravage him by having a woton moment after pushing the twin beds together, getting off her back for the first time in 7 months and treating him to the daring, sinful sexual position known as doggie style. your family life has to be literally that sterile for you to interpret anything i've said in this thread as 'internet tough guy'.

you've obviously never seen a tough guy in your life
it's kinda sad to be that sheltered, but i understand
i'm also impressed that you can get internet service in that log cabin you must live in to have never seen an actual tough guy, you know, so that you would know what that actually entails before you start telling people they're acting like a tough guy.

the issue here is.... what, exactly? lets think about this for a second. i'm being a jackass because... i think the reasons a few people have posted are ridiculous and i said as much and pointed out why? c'mon. if vulgarity is the issue, well.... see my above response.

anyhow...this guy took that and called it 'internet tough guy'.

sooooooo i clowned him because that's absurd and what said and how i've acted are pretty far from even being in the general area of accurate. so i cracked on him and merrily went about my day.

i'm not sure i get the correlation between having pointed opinions and having the- GASP!- audacity to actually state them on an internet message board where people supposedly don't take things all that seriously and having trouble with your real life.

i'm not sure how i'm being a jackass either.

Are niggas in this post that insecure about their taste in movies that have to insult everyone that didn't like the Hangover II?

I wanted it to be good. I really did. But it ain't. If you think it is, fine by me. But y'all niggas need to geek down for a bit.

>Are niggas in this post that insecure about their taste in

>Hangover II?

seems to me the insecurity stems from those who got offended that someone thought their opinion was either misguided. why the need to fervently defend your position if you are so insecure with your stance? take frank longo, for example, who disagreed with. i still disagree with him, but he was actually able to articulate his position rather well.

meanwhile, those who couldn't articulate their position very well reacted in a very different manner. i'd say that's the source of insecurity in this thread.

>I wanted it to be good. I really did. But it ain't. If you
>think it is, fine by me. But y'all niggas need to geek down
>for a bit.

all of which is fine. i just felt some of the reasons people gave were absurd and *they* got insecure about it.

Is that, the men in here claiming Hangover 2 is bad.. are really a bunch of sentimental sissies. Hangover 2 is easily funnier.

The criticism is also kind of strange... what did you expect them to do in a sequel? What other hangover would be as drastic of tragic as the one before a wedding? how did you want them to switch up the plot? by having a hangover before a job interview or something? it's a SEQUEL.. a PART TWO of the first.. what were you snobs expecting really? for Othello to walk down the isle while serenading a drunk Hamlet?

Bridesmaids was funny, but.. it was predictable.. sappy... and basically.. a sissies comedy.

Good day Sirs.. GOOD DAY!

It was like there was a template for it lol The scenes in the beginning were good and they should have dealt with some aftermath from the last movie or something. Yeah it's a sequel, but I'd be hard pressed to come up with another sequel that was SO close to the original.
