If this succeeds, Marvel will be able to make movies based on damn near everyone and anyone. And I'm talking multi-faceted succeed, not just commercially, but critically as well, both with film critics and fans. Then it will fall to Edgar Wright's Ant-Man, which is really in the same boat.

In response to Reply # 5

Comedies have a rich history of being hits in August (Pineapple Express, Tropic Thunder, Superbad, We're the Millers, etc.). Critically acclaimed super-original flicks do well in August too (District 9, Inglorious Basterds, Sixth Sense).

If it gets good reviews, people will keep coming.

Plus, outside of that Ninja Turtles reboot, there's nothing for weeks til the very end of the month brings the Sin City sequel. It'll have plenty of time to pick up steam and hold strong.

I mean, I expect it to do well, just not as well as Marvel's other movies with better known characters... Although, to be fair, Iron Man and Thor really weren't big-level characters until the movies, right? I mean, comic fans knew about them, but they weren't on that Spider-Man/Wolverine and Batman/Superman level, were they?

"I have a four-year old son who loves superheroes from Spider-Man to Iron Man to Batman. He’s got all the costumes. One day he looks at me and says ‘Dad, I want to be light-skinned so I could be Spider-Man. Spider-Man has light skin.’ That was sort of a shock. This is why I am excited to be a part of the Marvel Universe, so I could be hopefully provide that diversity in the role of the superhero."

... then we will get Marvel films with black and female leads. We'll certainly get it from Marvel waaaaay before we get them from DC.

This totally feels like them trying to flex just how weird they can go, but since it still has a white male lead, it's safe enough that they feel most people will still go see it (and I disagree with most of this post, I think if reviews are strong, this thing will fucking boom in August, the perfect month for weird and original summer flicks).

If they can make this a hit, I bet they'll think, "They'll see anything we do! Let's try and go even STRANGER! Lets... make a movie with a black lead! Or a woman! We're getting so edgy right now, you guys!"

Basically, no one on Earth even knows about this group, and the space-types who DO know about them write them off as a joke pretty immediately. A dangerous joke, maybe, but a joke nonetheless.

I've enjoyed Bendis' run, but that's about 90% courtesy of the art (Pechelli da Gawd, Francisco Francavilla...). Honestly, having read, reread, and adored the Abnett & Lanning run this movie is supposedly based on, Bendis' title doesn't even feel like the same characters. It's been 11 issues so far and I have no idea what Bendis' title is about. It's pretty though. Really, really pretty.

What's commonly referred to as "Cosmic Marvel" is such a great era that it's worth tracking down as much of it as you can. This is a great resource if you're a completionist (or just good with bittorrent...): http://i.imgur.com/FUM3v.jpg

Read Annihilation if you can. Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) is all over it, acting as kind of a military advisor to Nova throughout this universe-spanning war. He lays on the grizzled fatalist schtick maybe a little too hard at times, but it works. Annihilation is every bit a war comic, just one that's set in outer space.

Star-Lord gets his own 4-issue mini in Annihilation: Conquest, and that mini is the genesis of this Guardians of the Galaxy team. I loved it. Conquest itself doesn't loom as large as the original Annihilation series in my memory, but it was still solid,

Spinning out of Annihilation: Conquest they got their own title. Despite being sucked up into a seemingly never-ending string of crossover events (Secret Invasion, Emperor Vulcan, War of Kings, Realm of Kings, Thanos Imperative...think I'm forgetting one), it always managed to impress. The team is constantly facing impossible odds all on their own, saving the galaxy's ass even though no one knows it. The inter-team dynamics in this run are great (and completely ditched by Bendis, because Bendis), and they're legitimately funny books. Highly recommended.

At the end of Thanos Imperative, some things go down that leave a lot of questions if you've been reading the Bendis run. Those questions remain unanswered. It's frustrating, but only if you get frustrated by dumb shit.

I just love the Cosmic Marvel* line so much, anytime someone shows a hint of interest I come in waving the flag.

* - Sadly, I think the line ended in Thanos Imperative. The new Nova just actively pisses me off--Abnett and Lanning built Richard Rider up so convincingly and deftly that I get mad that the only Nova running around Marvel currently is basically Ultimate Spiderman II. Fuck Jeff Loeb. Same for GotG. I'm still reading it (that art), but these are not the same characters I love.

It looks better than Avengers. That middle finger sequence is to attract people like me that think that Marvel is too kiddy orientated ?That won't make em forget that it's a Disney movie disguised as a superhero flick. So forget the gritty, edgy tone of the comic book. People will go watch it because it looks pretty and entertaining. Let's hope it's written well and actually has something to say.Or else it could be John carter all over again but like Longo said ,an August release will help it make some coin.

Remember, they made Iron Man a smash, which was also a long shot at the time. Guardians is quite a bit riskier, as there's no one with RDJ's charisma in this film, but they have built up some goodwill with the public.

Consider this their 'Brave' or 'A Bug's Life', using Pixar as an example

'Guardians of the Galaxy' Trailer Sends ‘Hooked On a Feeling’ Sales Through the Roof

Oogachaka!

Sales of Blue Swede's "Hooked On a Feeling" have gone through the roof following its use in the new trailer for the film "Guardians of the Galaxy."

The song sold more than 2,000 downloads on Wednesday (Feb. 19), up about 700% in daily sales, industry sources say. The two-and-a-half-minute trailer bowed Tuesday (Feb. 18) on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" at 11:35 p.m. eastern.

Sources say that the song's 2,000 in digital sales instantly gave the tune its best digital sales week ever. (And again, that's after just one day of sales.) The current sales tracking week ends on Feb. 23. We'll have the official weekly sales of the track, collected by Nielsen SoundScan, on Feb. 26.

In the week ending Feb. 16, the song sold a negligible figure.

In the trailer for "Guardians of the Galaxy," the familiar "oogachaka!" chant from the song can be heard at around the 1:30 mark, and is then repeated during a montage of fiery action scenes. The song is then heard without interruption for the last 20 seconds of the trailer.

The song's previous best digital week came in 2008 when it sold 1,000 downloads (in the week ending March 16).

"Guardians of the Galaxy," starring Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana, will be released in theaters on Aug. 1.

Blue Swede's "Feeling" became a No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit for the Swedish band, reaching the top on the chart dated April 6, 1974. It was one of four Hot 100 hits for the act, which also charted a top 10 single with "Never My Love" (No. 7) in October 1974.

Blue Swede's take on "Feeling" is one of three visits to the chart for the song, which was first a hit for B.J. Thomas in 1968. He took the song to No. 5 on the Hot 100 in early 1969. Decades later, in 1998, thanks in part to the TV show "Ally McBeal," the song returned to the chart. A dancing baby -- grooving to Blue Swede's "Feeling" -- appeared as a hallucination on the show in January 1998. Known as "Baby Cha Cha," the animated infant was already a viral sensation by that point, but its popularity hit a new level after its use in "Ally McBeal."

That popularization -- along with Baby Cha Cha's subsequent appearances in assorted TV commercials -- led to a new recording and commercial CD release of the song, credited to the anonymous studio group Baby Talk. The single went on to sell 111,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, helping it reach No. 71 on the Hot 100 the week of June 6, 1998.

I didn't say "everyone in the world" did anything, Strawman Arguer. I said everyone who wanted to buy the song based on prior viral videos has done so and the RECENT purchasers of 'Hooked On A Feeling' bought it because of (surprise) the trailer that it was just in that was seen by millions of people. Cause, meet effect. In other words, GTFOH.

I'm sure you thought everyone who saw "Hooked" in a prior video woke up one day, at the same time, right after the GotG trailer was seen by millions of people and decided then, without being influenced by the trailer at all, to buy a song they heard on a viral video some time in the distant past. I mean, Google Ockham's Razor and STFU.

I mean, I would have bothered to have argued with you respectfully about it, but your subject line screamed out "I'm a dick," so I treated you with the disrespect you earned.

The marketing done in just a few days times already is pretty impressive. I keep pointing to the cast, and the lead 5 characters are being played by an impressive group of recognizable and at least semi-popular names, and that's not even considering Honsou, Reilly, Benicio del Toro, and Glenn Close (!).

Avengers 3 is gonna be the Infinity War (I think?) and basically I think Guardians is about them trying to stop Thanos from collecting the gems (relics in film) so they must fail somehow which would be cool. This is why I've been saying they need T'Challa cause A3 is gonna be a global battle and it'd be cool as hell to see Wakanda's army go to war.

Which brings up the question, why couldn't we get another Hulk film, or something else to lead into Avengers 2?

I know The Winter Soldier does that perfectly, but then why not save this for Phase 3 and do someone else who could join the team in A2?

The Hulk is kind of a boring character on his own. Dr. Strange opens up the door for supernatural elements and Ant-Man is most likely going to be a comedy.

If Guardians of the Galaxy is setup for Phase 3, I'm surprised that there's a huge gap between now and Avengers 2. I would think that there would be another one. Or maybe they had Cap 2 later in the year and had another movie after Thor 2. Plus, though people seemed to like it, it didn't seem like Iron Man 3 did much to further Phase 2. After the first Avengers movie, I thought all the Marvel movies would do what Cap 2 did so well, which is tell its own story AND keep developing the bigger Avengers story line.

I can see why they didn't do another Hulk movie, since the first two weren't so great, and Avengers proved that he's way more effective as an unpredictable supporting character...but something else?

It just seems odd to set up shit that's not gonna go down till 2017, 2018. Like this shit could be a Phase 3 movie then. Add to that they could've gave that slot to another character (namely War Machine), to join in on Avengers 2.

And yeah, Cap 2 is the only film that really pushed the events of Avengers forward, while setting up Age of Ultron in spades.

Also, since Tony Stark's story is done, why don't they do War Machine movies now, with the occasionally cameo by Tony running a rebuilt S.H.I.E.L.D.

co-sign on ALL of this. I felt like GOTG was TOTALLY a Phase 3 movie...

they could have given the slot to War Machine, or even done Black Panther (if they had a decent script cause the one I read a few years ago was fucking horrible), etc.

But to get GOTG and to not really see how they fit into the MCU/Avengers universe for another 3-4 years is a bit ridiculous....

i didn't see the full trailer from jimmy kimmel, but i've seen the existing trailer before a few movies. i'm a marvel movie fan, not a comic book fan, and there's zero chance i will see this.

i saw the trailer w/about 5 folks who all saw iron man, captain america, thor, iron man 2, the avengers, iron man 3, and thor 2 in theaters (i saw thor the week before thor 2 and still haven't seen captain america). NONE of them were interested in guardians of the galaxy.

will it completely flop? nah. but it's gonna be right there with "incredible hulk" and "captain america" among the lowest-grossing marvel movies. i hope they didn't spend too much money on it.

Actually in order from lowest to highest grossing:
Hulk, Cap, Thor, IM, IM2, Thor 2, IM3, Avengers.

There's obviously a pattern there, being that all the recent films have been their highest grossing ones. Marvel as a studio and brand has established itself by now, and folks are going for that more than for the properties that, let's be honest here, most people are far from familiar with.

The average movie goer isn't familiar with Thor, Black Widow, Nick Fury, Hawkeye etc. That didn't keep Marvel from turning films into hits. Generally they've spent about 150-200 million on each film, and 263 million is their lowest gross (Hulk). They're fine.

"thor 2" is a bad comparison to "guardians" because it's the 3rd movie that thor appears in. the guardians are all new characters that the audience is unfamiliar with.

as i said, i seriously doubt the movie will completely flop. that would be weird for exactly the reason that you mention: marvel is a brand that will draw moviegoers on its own to a degree.

however, based on my unscientific sample, it's not gonna be a runaway hit unless it's much better than the trailers that i saw. it's something that could do around $150M in the US and $150-250M overseas. a solid base hit for the marvel universe, but not a huge hit.

which is cool, considering that "captain america: the winter soldier" is likely to be a true blockbuster, such that between the 2 they'll have quite a successful year.

58. "'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Director Teases Huge Villain, 'Avengers 3' Clu..."
In response to Reply # 0

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1725930/guardians-of-the-galaxy-villain-avengers-hints.jhtml

With Marvel, everything is always connected. So it's no surprise that their newest film, "Guardians of the Galaxy," will have big tie-ins to future Marvel properties. In fact, it might have ties to the biggest.

"We're definitely connected to 'Avengers 3,' " director James Gunn says in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly.

Gunn had already confirmed that Thanos, the famous Marvel villain who many suspect will be the big bad of "Avengers 3," will appear in the movie, though he will be entirely motion-captured in "Guardians" and there's no word on who's playing him yet.

Still, Gunn was able to describe him a little bit, saying that in the movie, Thanos acts as "the head of the snake."

Clearly, considering Thanos' appearances at the end of the first "Avengers" and in "Guardians," and given the fact that "Guardians" is connected to "Avengers 3," it doesn't seem to be a big jump to think that Thanos will be the main villain in "Avengers 3." Not only that, but considering that the mid-credits scene in "Thor: The Dark World" seemed to be setting up the "Infinity Gauntlet" storyline, it's a pretty good bet that the famous Thanos story from the comics will at least serve as some inspiration for the third film.

We'll find out all, or at least a lot, of the answers when "Guardians of the Galaxy" premieres on August 1.

I imagine i'll be alone in this but I hate the tone of the trailer and the humour that goes with it. Now they seem to have managed to nail how it appears in the comic book but i'm guessing that wouldn't appeal to me either.

I thought the humour in Thor 2 was incredibly weak for the most part so I don't have confidence in MCU doing anything funny. However, they've had a hit with every single film so far and Winter Soldier is best action flick so far in 2014.

I'll still likely see this film but GotG has never piqued my interest since it was announced. I'm much more interested in Ant Man or a Black Panther movie, a Dr Strange movie or a Planet Hulk movie.

anyways. And the goofy humor works more here than it did in Thor 2. Mainly cause the jokes in Thor 2 weren't funny and were mad corny.

Would love to see Marvel branch out more into the universe and this is them dipping their feet in that pool....every comic cat or anyone who slightly knows anything about the Guardians is so hyped, but I'm still not sure about the general demographic being reeled in off these trailers.

69. "James Gunn Reveals IMAX 3D Surprises *swipe*"
In response to Reply # 0
Thu Jun-05-14 06:13 PM by bwood

Fuck! Now I gotta shell out money for that real IMAX. With 3D prices.

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=119182

Not only is James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy hitting regular theaters August 1, it's also arriving in IMAX 3D that same day with a cut that, according to a new statement by Gunn, offers fans some nice surprises. He just posted the following to his Facebook page:

Just got out of working on the Guardians cut for IMAX 3D and I'm unbelievably excited about it. Guardians of the Galaxy has been planned as a 3D film from its very inception. Yes, if you see the film in 2D, you'll get a full experience. But the 3D experience promises a little something extra. Unlike many directors, I've been actively involved with converting every shot to 3D, making sure it works perfectly for the story and the film, making sure it's spectacular and immersive without being silly, distracting, or overly showy. 3D conversion was once far inferior to shooting in 3D, but over the past couple years new technology has allowed us incredible control over the 3D effects, making it equal to or in some cases greater than shooting in 3D.

As an EXTRA benefit for those who see the film in IMAX 3D, we will be changing aspect ratios throughout the film in a way that makes the experience even fuller and more encompassing. I've personally chosen all the places where the changes occur and, again, I love how it's coming along. The changing aspect ratios in this case are actually a part of the storytelling.

Just wanted to share some of this stuff with you guys since I haven't had a chance to talk about the 3D much. Hope you're all having a great day. Hi!

An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy's fate in the balance.

Written and directed by Gunn, the film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Karen Gillan, Gregg Henry, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker and Vin Diesel.

70. "Josh Brolin is Thanos *swipe*"
In response to Reply # 0

http://collider.com/josh-brolin-thanos-guardians-of-the-galaxy/

We got our first look at Thanos (aka The Mad Titan, Avatar of Death) in a tag scene at the end of The Avengers, strongly suggesting that the Marvel villain would be making appearances in future films. Now, we have word that none other than Josh Brolin is set to voice the big bad. Fans will likely get their next look at (and listen to) Thanos in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which greatly expands the current Marvel Cinematic Universe beyond its terrestrial boundaries. Logic follows that a villain of Thanos’ proportions (he’s got god-like powers and has attempted to wipe out the human race) would also appear in future films like Avengers: Age of Ultron, with The Avengers 3 a likely place to feature the antagonist. Hit the jump for more.

Latino-Review reports that Brolin will be voicing Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy, with confirmation coming via Variety. They’re reporting that Thanos is also expected to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which was corroborated by The Wrap. While journos are in accord about the Guardians appearance of Thanos, HitFix’s Drew McWeeny had the following to say in response:

‏@DrewAtHitFix He’s not in “Age Of Ultron.” None of the stuff from the “Guardians” end of the galaxy is yet. That’s Phase 3.

The Mad Titan is expected to show up in the third act of the space-based actioner opening August 1st. Here’s an idea of what that scene may look like, from an earlier article discussing Kevin Feige‘s work with Gunn on the picture:

Gunn freezes a frame of an imposing-looking villain any serious comic book fan would recognize instantly. He sits on a rocket-powered throne. Feige sees something on the screen that he doesn’t like. The evildoer needs to be farther away in the frame so he looks more imperious, he says.

“I don’t know,” says Gunn. “I think it’s going to look cool, man.”

“You just don’t want him to feel petty in that way,” Feige says. “I think it’s a fine line.”

“How do you think it comes off as petty here?” Gunn says.

“He’s so damn close,” Feige says.

“Yeah,” concedes Gunn. “I think I’m going to have him floating in space.”

Feige is concerned about the throne, too. He points at the base. “Those don’t need to be rockets,” he says. “Maybe gravity disks?” Feige says he’ll check back later.

In the hallway he extracts a pledge not to name the bad guy. “That could not be a bigger spoiler,” Feige says.

Since the tag in The Avengers, and probably well before that, Feige and Marvel have been planning big things for the big bad. Here’s what Feige had to say a couple of years ago when the scene originally played out for audiences:

“Clearly, there’s a purpose to us putting him in the end of that movie. We do have plans for him. I wouldn’t say we ever feel the need to rush anything one way or the other. We succeeded in Phase One because we stuck to our guns and stuck to the plan. That plan took place over many, many years and it ultimately paid off. I see Phase Two unfolding in the same way of us taking our time, us doing what’s right for each individual movie, while folding in elements that will not only build up to the culmination of Phase Two, but even Phase Three.”

Though Whedon and Marvel cast actor/stuntman Damion Poitier to portray the baddie at the end of The Avengers, Feige admitted they’d recast the role when he reappears:

“I think we feel pretty free to recast. That was cast for literally that one shot. Depending on what the role requires from future movies, we’ll go from there.”

Looks like Brolin is what the role required. You’ll get your first look and listen in Guardians of the Galaxy when it opens August 1st.

If the new Star Wars movies are as half as good as this, I'll be happy.

Rocket steals the movie, but Groot is the heart of the movie. Really impressed that they gave so much emotion to these two characters.

And no, so far the post credits scene has not been attached to either print I saw.

Yes, well we are connected, first of all we are connected...because of certain characters...but we have a post-credit sequence that's all our own! That in all honestly we have just been doing the past few days so I think it's going to be a great deal of fun for people.

"You don't even want to know what it is! Pure joy, pure joy, that's two words!"

The scene will be attached to showings of the film when Guardians of the Galaxy opens on August 1

Like I said below my son was just mature enough to not be bored out of his mind. Not enough action or funny moments to keep young kids entertained. I would say 5 and older and you are fine. As long as you are okay with a few curse words.

It really throws you in headfirst into this very different world, which is disorienting, but once the prison sequence starts, it pretty much holds you. This will probably be a movie that gets better with repeat viewings.

The one downside: the villain, Ronan, is the sort of one-note destroyer of worlds that Marvel's probably relied on one too many times at this point. Would've been nice to give him a bit more personality. I'd also have preferred more of the Gamora/Nebula stuff, though the movie's not about that relationship and I'd imagine we'll see more of it over time.

Brolin as Thanos is awesome. People will fall in love with Groot (rightly so) and Rocket (who is fun but will ultimately probably be overpraised), but for me, upon first viewing, Drax was a huge standout. Loved loved loved everything about Drax.

Interested to see how this holds up. I'm re watching Cap 2 soon, just rewatched Thor 2 and IM3... I wanna see the replay value over time. Should hold up though. Plenty funny, fast paced, and it looks gorgeous (probably the best looking Marvel film).

Iron Man 3 is infinitely better than Iron Man 2.
Thor 2 is notably better than Thor.
Captain America 2 is notably better than Captain America.

Guardians would've had to have been worse than the Norton Incredible Hulk to give Phase 1 a chance. And that's a tall order.

Unless Avengers 2 is a huge fucking tank, Phase 2 absolutely owns Phase 1 in every way. As it should.

>man, woman, out of shape presidents, villains,

William Sadler is the only one who MAY be slightly shorter. And again, it's not a big enough difference that it even registers to someone who isn't looking for it.

>most famous guy in the worlds believed dead, and no avengers
>or shield shows up. he walks around the city no known by
>anyone

Avengers/Shield can't show up, because that's the nature of these films. It's not Avengers 2, but it has to be high stakes.

He doesn't interact with many people who don't recognize him in the town-- and they're all in that saloon, which seems removed from the world anyway. Again, not bothersome at all to me.

>again... armor that before took a hit from a tank missile,
>falls apart by a sneeze

The armor that fell apart was, if I recall correctly, only the prototype "individual flying pieces" suit. Different suits have different strengths/weaknesses. Again, zero problem with this.

>and yes. if the name of the movie is "iron man"....and all
>we see are "regular people and a little boy" then
>well...yeah.

Yeah, this complaint is always terrible to me, especially considering how much action this film has-- it's a billion miles from boring. Tony Stark is Iron Man, and watching him be resourceful until he gets the suit is a fuckload of fun, IMO.

Not to mention, the entire first and third act are all suit action... but that doesn't fit your quippy complaint about the film, so I understand leaving that out.

All of those complaints have nothing to do with character or story, and they all have to do with "superhero film logic." The character and story in this film are both fucking sensational, and the humor hits.

But by all means, get mad that the film spends time working with the character instead of showing three acts of suit action.

Just a lot of fun and I loved that whenever they got serious or close to a cliche moment, they had someone turn it on its head (usually Rocket.)

Immensely fun and the Groot dancing plant would be a huge seller. I think the world of mouth on this could be huge. The girls, especially, in the theater were loving Groot.

Bautista was surprisingly good although his character fit his stilted acting. Definitely want to see it again because I missed a lot of jokes because of laughing.

It's not quite as good as some of y'all cysing. The portrayal of Ronan sucks and is underdeveloped, leaving the movie without a strong bad guy. It started slow. And while I liked the quipiness, I could have done with 5-10 percent less. Some of the Rocket Racoon and Star Lord dialogue was forced.

That said, really, really good. The cgi of Groot and RR is flawless. The characterization of the five Guardians is great. Like the way Marvel did a space movie--the Nova Corps safety net was particularly cool. As my girl said, it had far more genuinely unexpected laughs than I would have predicted. Oh, and the action scenes were solid, especially hand to hand stuff.

Of the Marvel Studio films, I'd still rank it behind Avengers and Winter Soldier and dead even with the first Iron Man (this is probably a better movie, but RDJ is RDJ). If I'm a little disappointed, it's only because they've set the bar so very high. They're still killing it.

In response to Reply # 0
Sat Aug-02-14 07:48 AM by Voodoochilde

(spoilers below---please dont read if you havent seen the flick, its better if you just go in knowing not what to expect....)

so i knew absolutely nothing of THIS Gaurdians Of Galaxy group at all. (the only GOG i had been aware of were from the late 70s era of Marvel commics when they guested in some other books i read, or perhaps some one shot runs in those other comics Marvel used to test stuff out in ('Marvel Premier' or 'Marvel Feature' maybe?).

Anywayz, like i said i didnt know anything about the GOG in THIS film at all.

so to my question...as far as THIS GOG groups comic appearances go, in the comics that they were in did Starlords character also have the special attachment to music like the character does in the film? and, if so, in the comics, was his love for music driven by the same circumstances as it was in the movie?

Im just curious about ^that^ because i personally think that THAT musical element was something that i PERSONALLy thought was SUPER important & successful in making this move SOooo friggin satisfying!

and not just the fact that there's a 'music' link...but the SPECIFIC musical choices that they made were just ON POINT for making this thing special to me. there are many reasons why... some reasons are admittedly personal, (due to my age and the fact that i grew up on all of those tracks myself)... but the other reason that i think the music is a KEY element in the success of this movie is this: in a cosmic world as out there and over the top and crazy as this movie is set in, it NEEDs something to ground US into it to. We need to have some element that we can instantly connect to in a universe as loopy and fantastical as this one. Just like the character of Quill uses/relies the music to take himself back to where part of his life & soul began, so do we in a way in this world of talking racoons and ass kickin friendly trees.

so...if you cant tell by now, i LOVED this movie...i had a grin on my face through most of it, and a tug at my heart through the rest...so very well done, a big barrel of fun. but not empty disposable fun, nope, this was the kinda fun that had some solidness to it, some nutrients in it...the kinda fun you want to revisit and explore further. I will likely see this one probably two more times in the theater (definitely going at least one more time for sure). This is a film that warrants GOING to the movies to see as upposed to 'waiting for the blu-ray'...this one has some genuine 'communal' elements to it (including, but not exclusive to, the 'musical' elements that i mentioned above....the pop culture references that are sprinkled throughout and targeted will tickle various fancy's and different age groups, and it was fun hearing others in the theater laugh extra hard the same little elements that YOU thought were extra funny too.

there was applause in the theater i went to see it in. (and yup, i aint ashamed, i was one of the first to start clapping)

thats saying a LOT to because...going in, having heard that the reviews were coming in WAYY HIGH, i though to myself 'i mean, i know Marvel has a good track record, but there is no way this Movie can be that good right? I mean, i'm sure its gonna be solid and all, but i kinda went in thinking that it couldnt live up to the positive press it was getting, going in i kinda thought i would probably 'like it'...i didn't expect to come out loving it though...but i did.

that was big damn fun.

Marvel knocked this one out of the park. it wasnt PERFECT (as some have mentioned, the 'most immediate' bad guy in this one was kinda run-of-the-mill bad guy more or less....they need to work on that (although the REAL bad guy BEHIND the scenes...u know the one....Thanos...was friggin awesome in his appearances!)...but other than that 'weaker than the rest' bad-guy element, this flick was ON freakin POINT. The kind i dont mind plopping down my $$ to see at a theater at all...it had humor, it had music, it had heart, it had legitimate character motivations, it had action, and what i ALSO like its that, along with the 'big-fun' and 'heart' elements which will play to all ages, it also had some kinda grown up violence and smart-assery TOO and i was very glad that they went THERE as well. (i hate it when movies go TOO 'clean').

i hope its a big hit for Marvel, cuz i think they deserve it for taking some chances with this one....i am now a fan of this batch of GOG characters and i cant wait to explore the rest of their galaxy with them...

And I agree that the music added a lot of charm to the film.

Thanks.

wow. well that just makes Mr Gunn's handling of this movie even MORE impressive in my opinion.

i hope he keeps that thread/connection to 80's pop culture and 70s tunes as an 'accent seasoning' and continues to sprinkle them about 'just enough' in the next two GOG films as well. (yes, i think this debut is strong enough to warrant two more, as long as Gunn is at the helm)

saw this one twice now:

1st time on Friday in Imax 3d (beautiful, the opening sequence of Starlord grown up looked wonderful
)
2nd in regular 2d

audience applauded at the end of both shows i attended.
(and no, i didnt START the applause in the SECOND screening, i only STARTED applause the FIRST show i went to. (i did JOIN IN on the clapping the second go round though

I actually fell asleep for a few minutes during one or two of the fancy actions scenes. But I might just be a jaded old dude.

Some parts were kind of sort of funny. Overall, meh. Really most of what I liked involved the what, 2-3 minutes of screen time that Thanos got.

Oh and the after-the credits scene is probably the worst of any Marvel movie. I recommend everyone save yourself those extra minutes of waiting in the theater. It's dumb, and a total waste. After doing such a great job of having the after-the-credits scenes tease us for the next big Marvel flick, this and Iron Man 3 totally dropped the ball with that.

I really enjoyed it, but one thing really annoyed me: that gigantic net thing made up of hundreds of small battleships was so fucking dumb. They couldn't have just sent drones or use some sort of auto-pilot system to do that instead of getting actual pilots to do the formation? That's a lot of casualties that should've been avoided.

For the record, I like Pine in that role. I like the chemistry between he and Quinto, which is important. The writing is the issue with that franchise if you ask me, but I digress.

I'm glad Pratt didn't that role, because he owned this shit the way RDJ owned Stark amd Jackman owned Wolverine. Like a glove. I think Marvel has done an amazing job in the casting department. To me Evans and Hemsworth will be difficult to replace when that inevitable time comes, but they're a shade below Pratt and RDJ IMO. I'd probably put Ruffalo ahead of them at this point. Again though.... all of Marvel's leads have been well cast.

I'm hype over Batman vs Superman- especially after reading reports that Diana, Aquaman, etc won't chew up a ton of screen time, but I'm having a hard time seeing how they could possibly compete.

me too, i actually thought Pine nailed a modern/classic Kirk without being a charicature. and as you said, the chemistry & connection with Quinto was tangible and felt genuine which was a BIG requirement for me as far as the extra specialness of Trek goes.

yeah, Marvel nails casting for the most part don't they? hell, going back to Snipes as the re-envisioned Blade & Blade 2, that was on point for the era that it came out in. RDJ obviously cornered the market on Stark in Iron Man 1. Evans nails the delicate (& often surprisingly subtle) balance of Steve Rogers 'man lost in time in a modern world'. Ruffalo IS Banner and the Hulk for me, i LOVED his work in Avengers. (i actually want a mini-movie or mini series with Banner & Stark traveling the world hanging out, shooting the shit and just riffing. hell i'd go see that...they may not even have to 'suit-up' at all LOL!). Helmsworth's Thor is believable and yet grand at the same time. I cant wait for Rudds Ant Man. But yeah, to bring it back to Pratts Starlord...i agree, this guy seems MADE for THIS role specifically...very well done.

They should be begging Marvel to partner in future films for the properties they own the film rights to. Marvel has so badly outclassed everyone else in their field it's embarrassing. Frankly, I'm not sure how anyone can catch up. Spiderman and X Men might well print money themselves, but the quality of those films isn't even close.

Anyhow

Pratt's career is about to blow up in a big way. I'll probably get laughed off OKP for saying this, but I think he just became the second most important actor in the Marvel MCU after RDJ.

Rocket, Groot, and Drax were excellent supporting players who collectively stole this show. It seems people are gravitating to specific characters in the 'stole the show' category, but collectively they created something special. They all got their moment in the sun and hit home runs when that moment arrived. That's an impressive feat, considering nobody got a previous movie to establish themselves like the Avengers did.

This is going to hit big and gives them a viable second franchise line to run parallel to the Avengers line, because it easily rivals the Avengers in every way.

Shrug, I do. I actually enjoyed the last two iterations of each, but the quality divide is as clear and wide as it's ever been IMO. I don't know exact figures but I imagine Marvel movies as a whole earn significantly per flick.

For the record the new x-men are pretty good. As
>long as they keep making that money they will continue to push

As bwood stated, Sony seemed a little shook after the reception of TASM2, even though it's clearly been a financial success.

Either way, in syaing they should beat down Marvel's door for help is just my way of saying that the divide is pretty significant in terms of quality, execution, and financial returns and that Fox and Sony could stand to learn a few things from the big dogs on the block.

Yea they made money, but not the money they wanted to make off of it. Plus, those USPS ads reportedly cost a grip in of itself. All of April I would walk to work from Penn Station up and down 7th, 8th, and 6th Ave. in Manhattan seeing damn near every postal truck with Spidey, the logo, and release date on the side of the postal trucks.

It took ASM2 a month and some change to get past $200 million Stateside which should be a big wake up call (And barely made that much after that).

you gotta degrade it to "popcorn flick" to enjoy it.

Depends on how big of a role the Guardians are going to play in future Avengers movies, but Pratt killed it. Dude's kind of quietly had a great last year or so (Her, Lego Movie, P&R's upcoming final season,) and he's about to blow up.

* Unless we're counting villains, in which case I'd argue Tom Hiddleston might actually be the toughest actor to replace if they ever had to. No one else can play Loki at this pint.

Her job here was to basically play her usual role and play it straight. Just as she was the bridge between Kirk and Spock in the Star Trek flicks, she was the only grounded "straight" character among the 5 GOTG characters.

That said, she did a fine job as Gamora and I'd say she's probably taken for granted. She's always great in movies like this, unfortunately she's never given the noteworthy moments other characters are given and I think that probably accounts for the lack of discussion on her in this thread. The other four characters in the GOG quintet are absolute hams, so that pushed her to the bottom. I will say I wish her and Nebula got more than one fight sequence though.

That was funny. But yeah, she really wasn't much to do here. They gave her a back-story, but not really any reason to care about it. I wasn't especially "convinced" about her turning against Thanos as she explained it. I also did buy her and Star Lord falling for each other, beyond the fact that he was the lead and she was the most prominent female character.

I comic book nerded out a bunch of times.

-Adam Warlock in the collector's base!
Wasn't one of those Elves from Thor 2 inside the collector base too?
The dog in the astronaut costume is from something but I can't put my finger on it.

- The Celestrials! I think we saw a total of 2 of them.

- I think there were a couple of marvel universe cameos on Xander but I wasn't paying attention.

- Xandu! Would of marked out if the rest of the original Guardians made cameos here and there, maybe they did....

Overall awesome movie. One of the best well written marvel movies to date. Drax was great, Rocket was great, Groot stole the movie. Chris Pratt about to blow up. Zoe already been in a bunch of huge movies so this is nothing new for her. Gotta agree that she was supposed to be a badass killer and she was kinda the heart and soul of the team. Didn't really fit but oh well.
Need more Nebula. Ronan was never that major a player in the actual comic books. They should of showed him killing a bunch of people and being super evil instead of just telling us he is evil the whole movie.
Other then that no complaints here.

and did drax get stronger after falling into the yellow shit? seemed to me that he did.

i used to love Nova back in the day. and we had the whole nova corps on there. shame this marvel can't do silver surfer.

speaking of which, in the montage of the history of the gems, that one being looked an awful lot like Galactus.

yeah. that would have been good to see Ronan handling shit without the gem to establish his rep.

i was just cised to see the Kree. and surprised they didn't go to Fox with the FF. a lot of the marvel intergalactic shit is w/ the FF (silver surfer, galactus (they did him dirty making him a dumbass space tornado or whatever the fuck that was in the silver surfer movie), the kree, the skrulls) or the x-men (sh'iar an nem).

SPOILERS, obviously.

It was a ton of fun, had often great action set pieces, and the dialogue often worked well. But there needed to be a few adjustments. Lots of great characters, but a side effect of that is that some get the short shrift in terms of character development, and in this case it was some of the important ones, like Gammora and Ronan, and some less so but still interesting, like The Collector.

An as I believe Shells said above, they needed to turn down the quipiness a bit. Sometimes it worked really well: basically anything with Drax, most of Rocket Racoon's stuff, arguing about the "plan" towards the end. But sometimes it was a bit too much, like Star Lord dancing for Ronan at the end.

Regardless, lots of stuff to like about this. Glad they made it work, 'cause I'd like to see another of these, and see Marvel in general take some good risks.

And speaking of which, they should make a Howard the Duck film just for the fuck of it. Just to prove that everything they touch turns to gold. That would really piss Fox, Sony, and Warner Bros./DC off.

the actual framing of the movie - Ronan trying to destroy Xandar - kind of sucked. i didn't care about the villain or the planet he was trying to destroy and every time we had to hear a monologue about either of them, it felt like a massive speed bump.

Marvel movies, in general, tend to take themselves a little too seriously. I'm totally fine with one of their series being balls-out silliness. hopefully Guardians 2 can ditch the boring exposition and just get on with the fun.

I think you've got it mixed up with DC. Outside of Cap America Winter Soldier (which seems to be a deliberate and imho successful experiment at flirting with other genres) and the first Thor (which they corrected with the second) they've all been pretty lighthearted

i find both Cap movies, both Thor movies and the Hulk flick to be pretty sober and self-serious...at least in relation to how absurd the subject matter is. and i actually don't mind it cuz they're all well made movies, but i just wouldn't mind an entry in the Marvel stable that's unabashedly farcical. Guardians was damn near close, but i wish they would've pushed it even farther.

...of a comic book movie. Now, he hadn't seen it yet, and that wasn't what it was, but I also don't think that's what they should be going for. Tonally, the movie was 90-95% fine, but I shouldn't be rolling my eyes during the film's climax. These things shouldn't be "Remains of the Day", but if they treat everything like, "This is all based on a comic book, so we shouldn't take it seriously," it ends up a Schumacher "Batman" movie..

>the actual framing of the movie - Ronan trying to destroy

Well, that was the weakness with how they wrote the main villain. I agree that was a problem. They should have written him stronger. Besides, they'd already done a better (and funnier) version of catching him monologuing not five minutes earlier, when Rocket rams him with a spaceship while he's ranting at Drax.

>Marvel movies, in general, tend to take themselves a little

Yeah, not seeing how most of the Marvel movies take themselves too seirously. Not with all three Iron Man movies, Avengers, and the second Thor movie. They've gotten the tone just about right, even when they have other weaknesses.

I am not going to be able to talk objectively about this film. I'm fucking in love and they somehow made the best Marvel film to date. I apologize for the hyperbole, but this film landed on every aspect without "RDJ is cool" residuals. I don't even understand how Joss is going to make me care about an Earth based AVENGERS 2 when this film blew the walls out of the universe* (* - okay, hyperbole is in affect here. I just really like this movie).

I don't know how they did it, but that was amazing.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I thought Winter Soldier was a gold standard and GOTG shit upon it thusly. It's a good time to be a comicbook movie translation fan. They seem to be getting better and better.

I feel you but the earthbound movies need to step up beyond the quality of Winter Soldier to be viable. How many times can hero/team X fight disturbed super scientist Y before audiences check out? Look at the fuckery held within the Spiderman movies. Even with the Sinister Six, I am not even checking for it anymore because the scope and most importantly execution of Guardians changes EVERYTHING for me as an audience member. Spiderman/The Xmen/Fantastic Four all seem HELLA weak to me now. I wish they had started with the tone and feel of Guardians before making another Marvel based comic movie.

X-Men and Spidey have had diminishing returns in that timespan. WB's non-Dark Knight comics films haven't done as well (even Man of Steel was kind of a disappointment given the huge expectations they had.) There hasn't really been a new Hellboy type property to step up and go after that market.

If Marvel's insane idea to build a shared universe populated by their lesser-known (to mainstream film audiences) heroes hadn't paid off, superhero movies would be done.

Even as good as Nolan's Batman series was, the tone of the serious to death comic or comic books as a real world allegory is on its way out. That law of diminishing returns kicked in right after Heath Ledger ethered the Joker role and made it incredibly hard to follow that performance with more(or more-er) of the same dark tone. But it cant/shoudnt tip too far to the other side either because then we enter into the Val Kilmer Batman type of idiocy. GOTG found and walked the line between action, fun, and intrigue perfectly and I can't imagine people wanting it any other way for the time being. Watch how hard Sin City 2 flops. Dare I say, the Frank Miller era(that pretty much spawned the modern comic to movie aesthetic) is over.

>I don't know how they did it, but that was amazing. >

so i'm WITH ya in that Guardians is fanTASTic, fully satisfying, risk taking, game changing, universe building and one of my favorite flicks TOO. (i'll be seeing it for the 3rd time in the next week or so)...

but for me, they (Marvel) doesnt have to 'up the ante' on Cosmic-ness, or Epic-ness in order to make another movie as successful and satisfying as GOG...for me, the key is about characters and their motivations. if you can have a script that grounds a character and his/her emotional state and allows us to connect with said character(s) on some level, and then place them in a situation where their established character makeup has to navigate, react, chose, evolve or devolve in a logical way that we can relate to and/or understand...then, regardless of whether the situation is Epic or Earthbound...then, in MY mind, you'll have the makings of a film i'll care about and want to see over and over again...

Iron Man 1, Cap 1...prob the most 'earthbound' of the recent Marvel flicks...are two of my most favorite, and i probably re-watch those more than any others. (along with the Avengers too...cuzz...well Joss just killed it with that one too .

but AS LONG as they keep the characters phsycological makeup, genuine-ness and honest motivations FIRST on the priority list (as they did with Quill in GOG), then i'm not worried about the awesome mind-blowing other worldly universe that Guardians has built somehow lessening the ol' earthbound heros. I mean, i friggin CANT WAIT for what i hope to be the gritty, grimey, grounded & hopefully 'realistically frightening or unerving' in a way, hardcore 'hells kitchen' environment of the upcoming Dardevil/PowerMan/IronFist Netflix shows...those, IF DONE RIGHT (character/character/character-casting/casting/casting), could be JUST as successful in 'dark under-world' building as GOG was in 'colorful outer-world' building ya know?

I agree that Gamora, the sister, and Ronan don't get much to do and i wonder if that's because they have to play their roles so str8...i wish we got more of an understanding of what motivates Ronan...also the movie can't really do anything about this, but after seeing Thanos (who was actually more fleshed out than Ronan) you wanna see MORE Thanos....the movie can't really fix that, because it makes Ronan obsolete, and he's supposed to be the main villan, but he's boring compared to everyone else...

...i swear they depowered Gamora and Drax in this movie, but i can halfway get over that....

everything else was fantastic, altho i'm not sure this film is better than Avengers or Cap2, it's definitely top 3 best they've done...

it reminded me of every action/adventure movie i loved in the 80's, but updated...great job all around...

Whereas Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 will not, Cap 2 will stand by itself for just being a great movie, this movie will age very well methinks. I heard a review claim "Star Wars for a new generation", and I have to agree honestly. There are dozens of characters that look right out of an alien world in the SW universe. The marketing has been insane, but I imagine they could do a action figure line similar to the Kenner SW and push it to collectors and fans alike. Marvel just keeps swinging for the fences and hitting homeruns. IM3 and T:TDW were hits that were OK, but Cap 2 and GOTG were great movies AND hits.

I'm guessing the Thor stories are the least liked? Even though everyone seems to love Loki and the Thor storyline seems to be more "Tied" to the bigger storylines? Interesting but after watching Guardians, all of the previous films feel flimsy even though I loved them prior to seeing Guardians. Strange, that I've never experienced a movie changing my thoughts on other movies. Guardians literally influenced me in ways I didn't think possible.

Just a fun ride all the way through.

The humor and slapstick nature of the group never detracted from the urgency of their plight. The perfect amount of obstacles kept them on their toes. The only Marvel movie that was focused on high energy fun all the way through.

Iron Man 3 tried to be a fun ride all the way through but only ended up taking possibly the most serious storyline in it's publication (the Extremis virus, which should have been the focus because of the moral controversy of Tony Stark using it to weaponize himself and essentially become the Iron Man suit) and making it so that no one gave a shit about the villain or plot. It was the RDJ slapstick show, which was a waste because Don Cheadle showed he was 100% capable of taking the reigns as comic relief giving room for RDJ to be the vehicle for the urgency of the story.

Ronan was a palpable threat the entire film, he never felt like less of a threat at any moment regardless of the tomfoolery of the Guardians.

James Gunn injected these weird purgatory like friendship moments right in the middle of the cacophany and it worked everytime. (SPOILERISH AHEAD) Groot's glowing spores lighting the room while on the flaming warship heading towards Xandar and his eagerness to know he did good when waylaying enemies, Rocket revealing his character vulnerability in the middle of an alien brawl. Quill getting excited to have his outlaw name recognized in the middle of a massive gunfight. It all was great.

dont even get me started on Iron Man 3. i ended up kinda hating that flick. Its the only Marvel film i havent bought on Blu Ray yet (i probably will one day, because i'm a completist..).but dayum...that 3rd flick just let me down soOOO much. it was essentially (in my mind) a franchise killer...meaning, after seeing it i didnt want or care to see another Iron Man movie. Thats saying a lot too because Iron Man 1 is STILL one of my ALL TIME favorite flicks. Iron Man 2 did let me down for several reasons (i thought 2's focus should have been on RISE and the SERIOUS fall of Tony stark and his alcaholism...yes i thought it should have gone darker with that especially and not treated it as a punch line) , but yet i still found enough elements in 2 were successful and entertaining and memorable, successful enough for me to want to revisit it occasionally. But 3? 3 was mostly just crap for me. I get mad when i think about it...which is crazy i know, but its true. i get mad and irritated that they screwed up, cheapened what COULD have been a really solid trilogy of flicks had they done a solid job with 3. but nope...ugh...see, you got me pissed off all over again now lol....

In response to Reply # 0

I can't remember having so much fun watching a movie in a while. Not that I haven't enjoyed any of the previous summer releases. But lately summer blockbusters seem to take the material too seriously with brooding and somewhat troubled characters. But this one was able to pack in action, adventure, genuine comedy that didn't take itself too serious but wasn't goofy or corny. I would pay to go see it again on the big screen.

very entertaining, but i think i need to see it again in 2D. i saw it at the IMAX (the real one) and the 3D made things hard to track in the air battle scenes and some of the closer hand to hand fights. the other scenes looked great in 3D, however. i really loved the visuals of the opening sequence.

but just short of that benchmark in hilarity, action and story flow. entertaining, however, and a huge credit to Feige and Marvel for turning a D-list comic into another powerhouse franchise (while other studios bungle up the likes of Spider-Man).

hell, now I'm wondering if parting with Edgar Wright for Ant-Man was actually the right decision. can't argue with their formula right now.

how is it a credibility issue? Edgar and Marvel didn't agree on the vision of Ant-Man. They tried to work it out and they parted ways.

Directors pick up and exit projects all the time over creative differences. We'll probably never know why Wright left.

BUT, clearly his presence is still in the project because from what I gather, they using much of what he wrote and incorporating it into the shooting script they're using now.

And LOL at you assuming Wright was making another Scott Pilgrim for Ant-Man. Hilarity.

The difficulty of this movie with having to weave between 5 new major characters while explaining background, relationships, etc is high enough...and then you add in the emotional depth, the humor, the personality, the musical additions (just genius)...and to have it be done in such a natural manner. Incredible about sums up the job done by Gunn.

Ronan's depth as an antagonist had to be sacrificed imo in order to not make the movie too convoluted with all the new characters that had to be established so I'm ok with that. Groot and Rocket were fantastic (the CGI as a whole is prob the most seamless I've seen, with these two being damn near impeccable), Pratt was perfect, Batista as Drax was perfect (stilted and all), and Zoe played her part.

Just an extremely fun yet emotionally compelling and funny film that weaves a level of balance while integrating so many moving pieces...damn near genius. Ranks 2nd for me in terms of Marvel movies behind IM1 but in terms of direction and difficulty of execution, it stands alone imo.

Will certainly be watching again.

At the end when they were facing off against Ronan and Starlord started dancing they would of had Ronan say "The fuck are you doing?!?" instead of the regular way he said it. I know the movie is PG 13 whatever.

In many instances, my top Marvel movie, with Avengers still being number 1, due to the ground-breaking inclusion of all of the characters in one film. That, for me put it ever so slightly above this movie. I also have Cap 2, Iron Man 1, and Iron Man 3 rounding out my top 5 Marvel.

But this movie is just so damn fun. Second viewing allowed me to really focus on the timing of the humor mixed in with the action. There are so many quotable fun moments throughout.

The Yondu scene with The Broker, where he starts talking over him with the gibberish was just one of those small WTF moments that just had me going.

At the end of a movie where they straight killed it with a WWE wrestler having good/great lines and deliveries, 70s music in space, a maniac genius raccoon and a lovable with developmental delays, intergalactic rednecks, and barely any origin stories, these motherfuckers bring back Howard the Duck.

That's the nail in the coffin right there. Or the cherry on top. Pick your own metaphor. What I'm saying is that Marvel's statement with Howard at the end there is "OH YEAH MOTHERFUCKERS, WE ARE RUNNING SHIT SO HARD THAT WE COULD BRING BACK A FLOP DON'T FUCK WITH THE BOYS WE MIGHT DO IT YOU SEEN WE JUST DID IT."

Fuckin fantastic flick. Loved just about everything about it.

I'm a cosmic heroes mark and I've been DYING for Mavel Studios to get their hands on this stuff.

They knocked it the fuck out the park.

My only 2 gripes were A) wish they showed us some straight up Nova Force empowered Nova Centurions, not just starfighter pilots. I get why they did it their way, but I need me some Richard Rider...

and B) Sweet Jesus, they need to get rights to Silver Surfer back so bad. I can't believe one of the greatest characters ever was wasted on that abortion of a fantastic four film.

maybe i'm missing something but surfer always seemed boring to me. however, if he did come to the marvel cinematic universe i have complete faith they would make him interesting. they killing it right now.

best Marvel movie to date

DC should really give up on movies for the time being

Marvel has it on lock

also yeah, might be another Marvel shits on DC movies comment but I thought the chemistry between Peter Quill and Gamora was perfect. Glad they just stuck with the flirting and didn't throw in a make out scene, something Man of Steel dropped the ball on with Lois and Kal. lol

Still optimistic for Batman v Superman but just sayin..
