Instead I’m rewindin and playin what I just witnessed

Talking to friends I flashback
to after school kisses
hand holding
and "I have a date" speeches
floating effortlessly though fevered mindstates
waiting for Prom night
and the end
of what was given at birth
my dad called it childhood
(which he wants me to keep a little longer)
but golden caramel
drapes silkily from fingertips

I want to glide with her through slow jam high notes
spin her through waves of
passionate songbirds
whispering Someday is Tonight
as if Janet jumped from jukebox to real life
in one swift press of play

that day
is near
my heart pounds as I slang ice cream to customers
like crack to fiends

I long to stroke her vertebrae like a fender Rhodes
Serenading orgasms from lips to heaven

Well, after I pay for the Limo

Sunny brown eyes is on his way with the limo
Anxiously, I blink out my daydream of he

As she assists me with my custom tiara
meanwhile
Pa heads back downstairs to open the door
For my Knight in shining armor has promptly arrived

I pace my breaths like women in Lamas classes
dab my oil
grab his boutonnière
and hurriedly skip down the stairs

All sounds are muffled

There he was before me (inhale)
an automatic King who didn't need the proms validity
6 feet of spectacular
breath taking
draped in panache

Beautiful has soiled his pants
at the looks of you Fah’

He woos me with his mile wide smile
Opens up the corsage box
and his strong hands
caterpillars it onto my wrist (exhale)

I pin on his boutonnière

Sashay and strike it for our paparazzi
We then say our goodbye’s
grab hold of each other’s free palms
punch a fist of joy into the air with my other hand

Lungs filled with excitement and rebelliousness
We jam this baby up a few gears

His laugh confirms it

all within tocks of digital clocks
as sticks and stones

as limo driver coasts California highways
moonlight spotlights my words as I ask her to be my girl

Summertime Reminiscence and Wintertime Blues

her summer

I’m sitting Indian Style in my
mother’s porch swing,
watching Lisa an’em jump double dutch
with that red, white, and blue rope Ms. Sandra
done up and bought.
Charlie came skippin’ down the block
with his brand new trousers on, happy
to be out of school for the summer.
in my hand, there are four used-to-be
Lemon Heads. I toss the candies over
my shoulder and kick my legs up
to give myself an extra push. the breeze
kisses my lips, and I forget
that my afternoon chores have not
been done. my mother yells from
the second floor in her biggest voice,
“Get your narrow tail up here
and do these dishes.”
I race from my seat,
wipe the sticky lemon flavor from
the corners of my mouth with my tongue,
and hurry up the stairs.

his winter

I like dragging my big green boots in the snow
They make cool prints and I feel like an explorer
Only, I'm just goin over to antee Tina's house
She ain't my real antee though,
Momma make me call her that cause its polite
And momma said she raisin a gentlemen
I go every day after school,
Even when I don't want to
Momma don't like me home alone
But I do what I'm told
Cause mamma said Sharon’s sweet
Sharon is Tina’s daughter
She two years older, but a lot a years crazier
But she funny though, and real cool
Sometimes she try to teach me jacks
But mostly, she just like playin house
She showed me her panties and let me touch her butt

our seasons

momma means bizness when it
comes to chores. I spent the
rest of the evening washing dishes,
dusting furniture, and vacuuming until
the house was spit-shine clean. this is
the beginning to a very long summer.

I never knew why she cried so much
But her momma found out

Then they moved far away soon after
I miss my friend and I sometimes cry

White wingtips, with a royal-blue tie and sash. I even shaved off my dreds for the occasion. Moms tried pushin the ruffled shirt on me to give me a retro-vibe, but I wasn't feelin it.

So what if we didn't match in the photo... I think our differences compliment one another. And Mindful was just as engaging and fun to be around as i envisioned.
