"Been meaning to ask, what's the lesson's beef with women?"

It's not evey just the outright misogyny, or the subtle male agenda in posts about female artists....but generally speaking, there's a dearth of post about women involved in music.

What gives?

Are we just a reflection of society?

the majority of the stuff I post on is either House, Classic Soul, Classic Hip-Hop, or Jazz.

Aside from their involvement as Vocalist, women don't have a great deal of involvement in those genres.

Now there have been exceptions obviously, but the stuff I like is just male dominated for whatever reason. Not anti-Female.

I'm convinced you don't even read shit anymore.

WHERE did I say the vocals weren't important? What I'M saying is if we put up a "Female Producers in House" post I'd catch a brick. There's just not many to talk about.

THAT'S what I'm talking about.

You can holler and act a fool all you want. But bottom line, there's not a lot of Women in the Production/Creation side of things, and generally we talk about that just as much as any OTHER part of the music. Nobody is hating the women, they just aren't making much noise behind the boards.

now go ahead and curse me out and put a frowning smilie in.

u were alluding to the fact that they are a footnote to male dominated production, whereforewith the majority of that music wouldn't be shit without those female vocals. u can't drive a car without the tires...even if those motherfunkers weren't put on until the car was finished being built. the vocals are just as important as the production. that makes the song complete....not just those male producers....oh and vocal production IS production...so if those women have something to do with any of the lyrics, arrangements or melodies they are important.

this is TOTALLY irrelevant to the point I'm making or anybody ELSE is making for that matter.

where do you get credit for Vocal Production? Arrangements, maybe, but not vocal production. And to be fair, yes. that's VERY important.

but again, I ask YOU. Where are the Female Producers? Where are the female Engineers? The female Mastering people? The Female Soundpersons?

you can whine about how all we do is talk about Men, but there's simply no recognizable women on that side of the industry to TALK about...

they are all over the place! i know as many females producing & engineering as males...the PROBLEM is that the male dominated industry does not give them the same chances/respect/opportunities as they do their male counterparts.

.....it's been my personal experience that they have sucky taste in music.

HOLD UP! Fall back for a second! Let me explain lol!

"Sucky taste" does not mean they gotta fall in line with what I personally like or think is good. But w/ two exceptions that immediatley come to mind, for the most part females just don't dig for music, regardless of the genre. You ask them what they listen to or look through their collections and it's extremely rare to find something that isn't very popular or mainstream (watered down).

So even when you come across the girl who "listens to everything!!", it's Shania Twain, 50 Cent, R. Kelly, Nelly, Britney, Now! mixes, etc.

To be fair, you could probably say the majority of guys are the same way; me and us here aren't your typical music listener.

But it's not REALLY that big a deal anyways. It's not like having well-rounded and nuanced taste in music is a requirement of mine (it is a sweet bonus, tho.....like, you can see my enthusiasm increase immediately).

EDIT: And as for posts about women, I would guess it's mostly because there aren't a whole lot of representatives in hip-hop, which are what the majority of posts here cover. They're outnumbered in jazz, soul, and rock, too.

The mysogynistic bent is probably.......or at least I'd like to think..........just what you get when you have a bunch of guys together. Not to say there probably aren't some bitter nerds letting out aggression or whatever, but I don't think it's that much different then what you'd get with a bunch of ladies together.

In response to Reply # 3

I cannot tell you how it pains me to agree with this.. but I do. Aside from a tiny fistful of girlfriends, it is extremely rare for me to be able to have a good conversation about music with women. I don't understand it.
As a woman and a feminist, I also have been struggling with the question as to why I don't like more women in hiphop. In any other genre, it is mostly women that I buy, or appreciate, but hip hop is my "genre of choice", and I have been asking myself why I don't get into more female mc's. Most of them I just don't feel.
Do women do hip hop differently than men? Do women feel hip hop differently than men?
Dessa from Doomtree and Yarah Bravo speak the loudest to me ... I've got so much love and respect for those ladies. I will buy them, I will bump them... Ladies? Fellas?

Whether its Joss stone, Alicia Keys, Jill Scott or Lauryn Hill there's definitely some beef on OKP based on the posts I've seen. Only chick thats a bit hater proof is probably Erykah Badu, but even she gets hated on this site.

I'm not the one of those "Alicia Keys Thighs" dudes. I rarely post up about her, in ANY form. She's pretty, but isn't that part of her appeal? Blame the stylists for making her more attractive, not the men who admire her looks.

and FURTHERMORE, you drool all over Larry Johnson because of his skills at Running Back, right?

you're using the word misogynistic WAAAAY too loosely, if you ask me.

feel free to do so. In The Lesson I only talk about music. Now if you catch me in a forum about big boobs, I might let it fly. It STILL won't be misogynistic, though...

again, everybody that like to talk about the physical attributes of women ISN'T a misogynist...

you're contradicting yourself. earlier you said we reduce female singers to their body parts. Which is it? Shit on female singers because they ARE pretty? Or shit on them becuase they suck ( but happen to be pretty).

and how is that any different from "alicia keys is a so-so piano player with a nice set of legs"? Most people would've never paid any attention to her if she were an unseen piano player.

However, I think some guys don't fuck with female artists because they don't wanna look bitch. So, It's more of an "I'm not Gay" thing.

E.G. : When I found out the Pointer Sisters did the song "Automatic" (which clearly sounds as if a man was singing), I was initially turned off from the song. I'm not sure why, but it took just a lil' bit of time for me to get back into that song.

Plus, don't forget, we live in a society where only men have been president. There are "Policemen" "Firemen" and "Garbagemen". Cathoic's are raised knowing that a woman cannot be a priest, which coincides with many other religions. The father is generally seen as the "leader" of the family. And Women aren't allowed too see much combat if any in the armed services. It's a Man's World, and sadly, Music discussed in the lesson fall under such scrutiny.

plain and simple...

Women dont like criticism....plain and simple...

In my book, you get judged by the quality of your art...plain and simple...

Like Disco said, we put dudes under the same looking glass...

as far as appreciating their physical, we cant be blamed for that when they are QUICK to trade in on that(Beyonce's constant ass poppin, Alicia's skin tight dress in the No One video, Ciara's constant grinding, the preoccupation with showing flesh and yammering abt sex...thus NO MORE SEXY....)

If they get their feelings hurt....oh well....this business is ROUGH....for EVERYBODY....

Learn an instrument...

Learn the boards...

Learn the equipment...

Learn music theory....

Work on your lyrical content...

Ease back on the selling of the pussy along with the music....Im not asking women in music to suppress their natural sexuality or their beauty....but balance it with artful expression(see: Minnie Riperton)...

if you want equality, then accept all that goes with it...and as long as women continue to ignore that fact....then this will continue to be a male dominated industry....

the first time I saw it O was like: "why can't she stand still to sell me this product?"

and just by chance, Scorpion saw it and we mentioned it in the Studio one day.

"WTF? can't people just be spokespeople anymore?"

I thought it was gonna be one of those commercials where someone was gonna yell "cut!" and beyonce was gonna step aside and be like "good, I needed a Diet Pepsi" or something...but it just kept going on...and then the "upgrade" charm in her mouth just really put it over the top...I mean, I am all about getting the paper but how can anyone really take this girl seriously, musically speaking.

DISCLAIMER: This isn't my take on the subject of the post, just that goofy-ass commercial.

there are and have been lots of great female artists that don't really fall into the (somewhat valid) points you bring up - and the lesson doesn't EVER talk about them...in particular within rock music

truth be told, even within the realm of soul & blues & jazz - i dont really hear many female artists spoken about consistently and in-depth on this site outside of aretha, sade, and roberta flack

that's not true. people talk about rock music here all the time. hell, november was LED ZEPPLIN month. and there are and have been multides of female rock artists - considering i use the term rock loosely. but hey, so does everyone.

is that any different than amerie or beyonce though?

*bonus trivia* stuart matthewman said in some interview posted by someone here that sade has muchas, muchas control and involvement in their music...although she is just considered a singer. in fact, he said something along the lines of he has to seek her approval for everything he does, because she is so musically creative and has such a great ear (im paraphrasing, but you get the idea).

she's more than just a singer

(swipe)

Stuart Matthewman - See Sade wasn't ready to do the whole thing of being "Sade." She had got a new man in her life and stuff was going on. She had a kid and things changed, the dynamics had changed. We still talked to her every other day but we were doing different things and she has no ego as in like "oh you guys can't do anything while I'm not working." Because she is cool and she knows where our loyalties are. Everything that I do, any music, I always send it to her first to get her opinion. It's got to pass Sade's test before I let anyone hear it, same with Sweetback. I will pass things backwards and forward and she will make comments and it's cool.

I would always play these guitar parts and then we would lose most of them and just keep one little riff and it was the same with the keyboards and Sade's vocals and we all would put our little bit in, but Sade is the one. She could make me play stuff on the guitar that I wouldn't think of. She doesn't play herself, but she could get you to do stuff.

No dis to you, but so what?

Based on what you swiped, she was "listening" to it and simply commenting: "It's good" and Stu may just roll with it.

He didn't say she gave him constructive criticism on the time signatures and codas and shit or how the mix could be widened...ANY woman can listen and say: "I like it."

>She doesn't play herself, but she could get you to do stuff.

and I CONSTANTLY preach about Lisa Shaw and Aya. and don't forget about how Bjork gets worshipped around here.

and House posts are FILLED with female singers, because they dominate that genre ( AS VOCALISTS). So to say that we don't discuss female singers simnply isn't true.

EDIT: there's a Bjork post AND a Teena Marie post on page ONE as we speak.

now if you said "all DJ's from Chicago are dope", then yeah, I'll let that generalization ride, lol. But you're attacking the brothers and it's unwarrented.

i have no critical faculties

(*rereads sentence wondering if rewording could make it sound less nerdy*)

in fact MOST people in the lesson like to present an image of themselves as discerning music afficionados

that completely falls apart when people say 'she had good songs on her last album and her breasts are looking better than ever!' which indicates people don't even SEE the problem

we're supposed to be able to rise above MTV Base image marketing in here. cause it's NOT just Beyonce who gets this treatment, it's virtually ANY female musician regardless of their gyration quotient. this is like the 'all woman are whores' argument because someone cheated on you

it's like turning up at a bookgroup and saying 'i thought it was a great book, and it had a really neat cover!'

folks to ignore it when evaluating your music.

And you can be plenty sexy without the kind of sexy that's all over contemporary pop marketing.

Michelle Phillips was sexy.
Grace Slick was sexy.
I've even read guys saying that Joan Baez was sexy.
Sade was sexy.
Young Patti Labelle was sexy.
Mavis Staples was sexy.
Me'shell is sexy.

But they all expressed that sexiness in non-slatternly ways that didn't overshadow their musical contributions.

Basically, fire, I think you subscribe to the bullshit view of 'empowerment' in part as a singer's ability to decide to show T&A and play the pimp's inverse role. You want it both ways, and it's just not always possible.

Frankly, even though she was gimmicky and arguably made worse music, I do view India as a more empowered woman than a Beyonce b/c she was able to be successful (though obviously not AS successful) without exploiting her body, which is also quite lovely. You might believe that a fully-clothed Beyonce would still be the superstar she is today, but around here you'd probably be in the minority.

All that picture does is reinforce that Sade was able to be both sexy and elegant.

You know that pic is a far, far cry from what goes on today, mostly via the medium of the 'music video.'

Women singers today in that same pose would have a string bikini on, and either appearing not to be wearing pants, or have their thongs showing.

>no i don't, i subscribe to the "do it knock or not" school of

but you assume when we disagree with you that something doesn't knock that we're only looking at the T&A.
Or that when we DO like something, we only like it for the T&A.

Bsaically, men can't please you with their musical taste on R&B women, huh? I say that half-jokingly, but really...

Am I doing that?

I was opining, lady. Not deciding on what empowers a woman. If you want to believe that shaking your booty for the camera is an act of empowerment, then more power to you. Be sure to let me know when the video drops.

But I do tend to agree with disco and others that shimmying and grinding while 'singing' in order to sell high def or digital or whatever TV is *not* dignified or empowered, but rather catering to the lowest common denominator and doing what is expected - maybe demanded - of you by the sexist and misogynistic industry.

10 or 12 somewhat prominent female posters?

so this:

> the subtle male
>agenda in posts about female artists

seems to me to be a natural development.

Add in the fact that most of the female artists under discussion tend to be making pop music, which relies as much on image (see: male agenda) as it does on a musical performance.

as for this:

>It's not evey just the outright misogyny

It's also a board where, despite broad tastes, hiphop is generally the unifying factor. Add into that since the anti-boho backlash that started around 2003 the increasing importance of machisto in a poster's 'rep,' and it seems to make sense.

>...but generally
>speaking, there's a dearth of post about women involved in
>music.

Do you not think that by and large, men tend to prefer music by men to a large extent?

And the field of music is already male-dominated. And a lot of the more 'serious' womanly music falls into genres or eras that don't get discussed/appreciated around here much. Joni and Ani get passes, but really, not a lot of folks talk about or listen to or even know strong women like Laura Nyro, Dori Previn, Joan Armatrading, Patty Larkin, Sandy Denny, Barbara Dane, etc. etc.

>What gives?

Not enough guys

>Are we just a reflection of society?

Of course we are.

The fact that Fugazi or QOTSA are all guys doesn't sell the music for me, and I don't think that's part of the calculus for most guys on the lesson.

If you like genre X, it's because you like it.

Jonell's Round and Round, I like as much as say Anthony Hamilton's Charlene.

But I think if you take intent out of the picture, that's the situation. Most men prefer music by other men.

And that is largely the result of the musical landscape of women not being promoted, signed, or worse, picking up an instrument to begin with.

except in the area where people will diss a woman's music because liking it wouldbe perceived as 'gay' or 'soft.'

But for that matter, Lessonaire types are way, way in the minority; I think for most people, developing and defining musical taste is an almost completely unconscious act.

I'm inclined to think that Nina Simone, Minx, Bjork, and Me'Shell ( and those like them) who DON'T use sex as a selling point garner more respect from male audiences.

They're taken more serious as musicians, as opposed to singing strippers which has become the norm in Popular music.

i'm referring to r&b lyrics (limited subject matter for 99% of the singers) and even the cooing, oversexed way some of "y'all" sing (only heard you sing on one song so i don't truly mean you, but if the shoe fits, feel free). these aren't bad things, but don't be surprised when guys follow through.

guys follow through cuz they are sexual by nature. it brings to mind an episode of friday night lights i was watching last night. the coach didn't want his daughter dating & he says to her (loosely quoted): all boys think about all day is sex. they don't think about anything else, no matter what you do or who u are the bottom line is they want sex. i have alot of male friends and this statement is like 90% true. i love men but i dont pretend that alot of times their mind is on sex. there's nothing wrong with it. but don't diss female artists music, praise them for the way they look and then pretend that u take them seriously. judge the music on its MERIT not its bra.

i know you don't read all my posts, but you should know i "don't diss female artists' music." of all people to accuse that of, don't come at me with that. my critiques are of their art and aren't coming from my groinal region. i think i'm fairly objective in being able to keep a woman's art and her physical appearance and/or sexiness as completely separate things. there are plenty of female lyricists who want to hyper-sexualize their music though and that can't be overlooked.

NO guy wakes up and says: "I want to see a half naked singer on TV today"

they wake up and go, "if I WANT to see some half naked singers, I know there's a Brittney Spears video on..."

NO man buys a record based on the sexiness of the singer. We buy shit to LISTEN to.

Beyonce might be every guys wet dream, but at the end of the day, she's a competent SINGER too. I think any guy will admit that. Now granted, guys look at VIDEOS for sleaze, but if you're on a road trip in a car full of dudes, only the women with chops will get any burn in the CD player. How often do GUYS *listen* to Ciara or Cassie?

I'm talking about how men can, and DO separate sex from musical output when it IS time to listen and/or dissect the music.

meaning, the nymphs don't get much shine when talking about musical prowess. Feel me?

i think the male ego comes into play a lot whenever it concerns women and music (and basically women and everything else). it seems to me that it makes them feel better a lot of times just diss because it translates into them feeling superior as men. i think its purposeful because most of the time when they talk bad about a female artists music they aren't just saying something like "oh she's wack" they have to throw in something like "most female artists are wack" or "women can't make good music". in contrast if a male artist is wack he's just wack. and don't even get me started on the fact that if they don't find her look to be physically appealing thats like an automatic points off for them.

now granted, i just started posting here so i don't know exactly how it goes in the context of this board, i'm just speaking on what i've seen in general.

she was completely solo on acoustic guitar
i thought the new songs she premiered were funny
but in their slick studio form i was embarrassed for her
i guess it didn't really work out in the end... she had a quick 15 minutes of mainstream fame and everyone moved on from her. where is she now?

I mean, the music industry itself is one huge sausage party.

Generally, The Lesson just reflects whatever is going on in music past and present.

Personally, I miss the female involvement in the Production, Editing and Engineering areas of this industry. Women like Angela Winbush, LaLa, Joyce "Fenderella" Irby, Bernadette Cooper are a notion of the past. It seems like nowadays, a woman has to be with a guy as a duo to even be taken halfway seriously as anything more than a lead vocalist, and even then, it's assumed that if dude gives her co-pro credits he's whipped.

At least with hip hop, I noticed a lot of folks outside of the demographic
- gays
- latinos and asians
- white folks

And yes, Women.

I may need a better sampling though. But there were a considerable # of women behind the scenes, but not necessarily behind the boards.

and i don't think it can be answered in any flippant, one-line response, positive or negative.

it's hard, because in one sense, pointing out message board music sexism isn't exactly getting at the root cause of things; we could be asking: "how has sexism impacted women in the music industry, and how has it impacted the ways in which we as fans consume music?" at the same time, however, it is important to turn the lense on ourselves and our little internet village here.

i think it's important to stay aware of the bigger picture and not get bogged down in message board social dynamics, while at the same time not intellectuallizing and distancing ourselves from the sexism that definitely exists right here.

one important point is that in a male-dominated community like this (yeah i'm a lurker, but i've been around), you're going to have both overt sexism/misogyny AND well-meaning posters who just don't know that what they're doing is supporting a sexist agenda. this comes out in the "women listen to/make shitty music" responses and the "i wish there WERE more women in my favorite genre, but there aren't so i post about men" responses, respectively. it becomes easy for the latter group to get lazy because they can say "well at least i'm not like THOSE guys."

and it's this latter group that's the key. we'll always have to deal with the out-in-the-open misogynists, but i think that it's the majority-- the well-meaning and the blissfully ignorant-- who are in a position to make change. so what can we actually DO? a few thoughts:

understand that sexism isn't just about overt actions and words; it's any attitude or action or whatever that keeps men in the spotlight and gives them more value than women. yeah it's sexist when nelly swipes his credit card through a woman's ass, but it's ALSO sexist when we only support/talk about male recording artists-- REGARDLESS of our intent. maybe it's absolutely true that you're a huge fan of NY mixtape rappers and that there just aren't very many women in that subgenre; it's still sexist, even if your conscience is clean. maybe that's not fair, but that's the way it is.

that's the kind of sexism that doesn't mean you're a horrible woman-hating bastard; it means you're a part of an entrenched system that gives men more opportunities, gives us more value and normalizes whatever we do/are. we're all a part of it. that's not an excuse, though.

it's the whole "you can't stand still on a moving train" idea.

for those who actually care about fighting misogyny and all that, that means we have to be extra-conscious of what we talk about and how we talk about it. and sometimes there's no message-board solution-- the NY mixtape rapper example is something that reflects a larger issue; we can't just awkwardly insert some token female into every conversation about Papoose and Cassidy. But we do have a responsibility to understand what's going on, and maybe try to make changes in the real world (especially those of us who are artists, promoters or industry people).

but again, there's really no easy answer here. just some thoughts.

no disrespect, but this really is a simple problem solution situation...

Women want to be taken seriously musically, they need to LEARN THE CRAFT....

but theyre content with singing/rhyming and showing off their bodies...and waiting for someone to GIVE them somn to sing or rhyme over....

if they want respect, they have to earn it...they have to be dilligent and break down the barriers...and chill with the "its hard.....men dont take us seriously" cop-outs...

i mean, it's always going to be on the oppressed group to struggle for their whatever, but that doesn't mean that the privileged group should just sit back, watch and say "go get 'em girls." men can be pro-active on this issue.

women, by and large, aren't afforded the opportunities to prove their meddle behind the boards and all that. they have to work against the presumption that they're just there to be sex items from the start.

you're ignoring the systematic elements that contribute to the situation. you're blaming women for the existence of a situation they didn't create...men did.

The internet is also gender neutral place.. you dont see faces or hear voices.. Me & my girl talk about music all the time.. when her friends come over we talk music.. girls at work talk music.. especially the younger ones at work. thats where it gets interesting.. and you be surprised how many of them hate the crunky dirty south stuff as much as I do..

thats why its a pleasant surprise to me when a woman can see past the glitter and sprinkles of music in that vein.. they use descriptions like "disposable" and say the rnb & rap today is mostly just interchangeable bullshit.. like some wack legos all making the same shapes..

only thing is.. they usually have an over abundance of respect for Biggie... but they dont like Jay-Z, Kanye or 50 so thats pretty fresh to hear

i would say that most women know that. its just that its almost as if we can't display ANY sexuality when it comes to males without it being said to be their power or considering it our number 1 asset. maybe you guys didn't get the memo but women are just as much sexual beings as men and its natural for us to display it sometimes. eventually men are going to have to adjust their rigid thoughts on what a woman should be and how she should act because most of the time they don't even have a clue lol

So are you trying to say that women don't know how to have a musical convo with a dude without checking out the size of his dick? Just like most dudes check out y'all's jugs when y'all discuss music?

no...wtf? lol. i'm talking about in terms of artists and the way they present themselves. females can rarely express sexuality in their music or dress sexily in their videos without them suddenly being superhead status and not worthy of respect as an artist. its the whole she's either a virgin or a dirty whore thing. male artists on the other hand flaunt their sexuality in music and are seemingly dapped up by male listeners and it doesn't effect how they view their music.

First of all, the double standard exists. Accept it.

HOWEVER - every male doesn't ascribe to that double standard.

Second, a woman who's secure in herself and her power - mental and physical - knows when to use the appropriate power.

If every dude was perfect and respected women right off the top, there wouldn't even be a need to search for the right mate - that's a part of life.

As far as the music industry, yes, it IS male dominated by insecure men who have subconscious issues with women and control. That's just the way it is and I don't see that changing...I'd like for it to change, but I don't see it...

first of all, i know the double standard exists because i'm the one that even brought it up lol. second, no, i'm not just going to "accept it" and move on. as a black male (i'm assuming you are black because of your avi, if you're not disregard this point) this is like me telling you that there is racism in this world and you will be treated unfairly, accept it. sure its true, but it doesn't mean you have to lay down and accept it, just as i as a woman don't have to lay down and accept sexism, no pun intended :/.

lastly, if we are in consensus that the industry is dominated by males with their own specific agendas in mind i don't see why its so hard to understand why you don't see an influx of female MCs, producers, and the like. in combination with that its even hard for non-popstar, talented male artists to get attention so you know its even worse for talented non-popstar women. so its not that women can't do it or just don't make good music like some guys like to believe, its just that they are not allowed the same outlet as men.

Well, personally, I don't see as many women attempting to even be heard or make it as I'd like to see (without selling their sex) - I'll say it that way.

Georgia Anne Muldrow and Muhsinah (regardless of how I feel about their art) seem to be the only females in R&B who are controlling their careers in techincal aspects - i.e.: production, mixing, total package.

Male or female, I expect intelligent conversation that doesn't lean on any convenient copouts...simple as that.

I personally hate it when (certain) women pull what fire pulls and calls it "empowerment".

to put it simplistically yes thats what i was getting at. if there wasn't some type of resentment towards women expressing their sexuality in society then obviously when it was done it wouldn't be reacted to with such disdain. even heterosexual men who generally reap the benefits of female sexuality seem to have issues with it. as far as the fear angle thats a deeper issue that i've delved into in my psych classes and wanted to throw out there cause its interesting to me but its kinda unnecessary in this discussion. the simple explaination though is that if female sexuality where not feared on some levels there wouldn't presently and historically be so much an effort to surpress it.

and The Doc is glad he did.
The Doc would like to think that The Lesson really isn't as misogynistic as it may seem (personally, The Doc doesn't see it).

This is like OkaySports, only about music, and with more female participation.

In short, EVERYONE GETS HATED ON HERE.
The Doc hasn't seen any real posts/replies that seriously come from a "girls suck" angle.

Even "Maxwell Sings For The Bitches" was more of a "Maxwell isn't so great" post as it is for his audience.

The closest The Doc thinks he's said himself is in his criticism of LL Cool J

but more often than not, the sucky are called out for their suck not for what they use to pee.

yes, i think we are a reflection of society. of course.

some of you have stated you don't know many girls that are music heads (or girls like just know good music) sooo obviously there aren't that many into making music.

we need to step our game up (c) scorpion

i don't know where the disconnect is though with regard to why girls don't direct themselves toward music in general where as boys do.

if they do ....yeah, it's an old boys club. it's hard, but hard for anyone. guys have to prove himself too.

either your interested or your not.

i really don't think the lesson hates women. everyone seems fair game. not a lot of women in the game hence no a lot of women to support or hate on.

there is support of the ones that make good music in each of our eyes. that's why it's teena marie month.

edit: dammit...i came in way too late. not my fault! now post is practically over.

to diss women, or be hard on them...

that may seem like it has nothing to do with musical discussions..but it actually does...I mean some cats feel like if they give credit to a female artist, or say they like a female artists music, it will make them seem soft (grown ass men thinking that is just weird to me)

Like fools think saying stuff like, "That bitch can't sing" or calling certain female artists crazy bitches...adds to their masculinity...

pretty weak if you ask me..
