"loveage/ming & fs @ bowery ballroom"

ok, so maybe two people will read this thread, but i'm sure that what i'm about to write will be more entertaining than your job. so read this review; you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll avoid doing something productive for a few minutes.

so my friend had an extra ticket to see loveage tonight, and i had $20 and nothing else better to do. a little background: loveage would be dan the automator's handsome boy modeling school side project. here i am thinking that it's just the name of the album, but no, it's an actual group. the other members are mike patton (used to be in faith no more), kid koala, some chick whose name i can't remember, and two other guys whose names were not mentioned.

before loveage went on, ming & fs did their set. now, personally, i don't enjoy going to shows where you stare at the dj while they're doing their thing. i mean, really, what's the point of that? that said, i really liked their mix of hip hop and drum'n'bass. the problem was the crowd. this was not a dancing crowd. this was a stare-at-the-dj-and-nod-your-head crowd. and they seemed really bored. the only time the crowd came alive for ming & fs was when they played a remix of faith no more's version of "war pigs". that should tell you something. despite this problem, their show was really good. hopefully i'll hear them again one day in someplace that's more condusive to dancing.

next was the loveage "experience", and i'd say that's a pretty accurate description of what took place. i know you've all seen the handsome boy modeling school pictures, so you can pretty much imagine what the whole scene looked like: silk robes and gold chains for the fellas, skintight dress for the lady, cognac flowing, incense burning, you get the idea. i don't actually own the loveage album, so i can't really compare the live experience to the recorded experience. but the music was really good- mike patton and the chick singing lustily over dan the automator's and kid koala's beats. the anonymous guys played guitar and bass, and mike patton also played some other random instruments for added sound effects. altogether, the music was incredibly lush and sensual.

since i know that no one is reading this, i feel safe in writing what happened next. towards the end of the show, mike patton announces that what new york needs is "a little... sweetness". it started off innocently enough, with mike and dan handing out a box of chocolates to the audience up front. then everyone left the stage except for kid koala, who was still spinning. after a couple of minutes, i realize that mike and dan are now in the audience. i couldn't really tell what was going on, but i heard a lot of cheering and yelling. they make their way through the crowd holding a flashlight. as they came by i took a few steps back to let them pass, but they stopped right in front of me and dan yelled, "she wants chocolate!!" oh shit. dan's carrying a bottle of chocolate syrup with him, and he proceeds to pour it in my mouth. (hey, i really didn't feel like i had a choice in the matter.) then he started pouring it on my face. i was like "what the hell?!" and mike said, "don't worry sweetie, i'll take care of that." i'm thinking he's going to hand me a tissue or something, but instead he proceeds to LICK THE CHOCOLATE OFF MY FACE. if *ever* i wanted the ground to open up and have the earth swallow me whole, that was the moment. i'm not sure what was more mortifying, that or having to explain to the bitchy bartender why i needed a cup of water to wash my face. ("dan the automator and mike patton just poured chocolate sauce on me!")

while i was washing my face, they played a few more songs and also pulled a couple of people on stage for "the loveage connection". they redeemed themselves (in my eyes) by doing this hysterical cover of "i'm real", with the girl doing ja rule's part and mike doing jennifer lopez's part.

if this show comes to your town, you should go. however, do yourself a favor and stay in the back. that way, you won't have to face the humiliation that i did.

I went to the show in boston, and thats pretty much how things went down here too. I had a Mike experience as well. He did the same thing as far as going into the crowd and pouring chocolate on ladies and licking it up. He was then making his way back on stage(i was on the side of stage watching the show cuz i knew someone in the show). He stops by me and he has chocolate syrup still on his mouth and he tells me he wants me to lick it off of him. I thought he was playing so i was like whateva. But he still wants me to "take care of him" and lick it up for him. I was like hell no, so he said i had to get punished which meant getting spanked by this sex toy he had in his hand. So he turns me around and spanks my ass! Nothing hard, just a love tap. I couldn't believe what he just did, but there was a little break in their set and he came over and said he got caught up in the moment and apologized.

as far as i know, there were no spankings at my show. but anything could have happened when i ran to the bar.

but at least he apologized. i didn't even get that. i mean, he damn near ruined my favorite sweater!

Mike wasn't feeling like his extremely radical self to do the "obligatory" shit.
He apologized, so that may mean that he wasn't too wild that night.

I heard that some chick had gotten some chocolate eaten out from her mouth by Mike Patton.
A lot of girls would DIE to trade places with you.
Too bad I couldn't make it.
I posted about the show (last week),...but nobody seemed interested in going.

if it means anything, a lot of guys i know are jealous of me.

and it was just weird... i mean, faith no more was big when i was in junior high, and i liked their music. but i never thought that mike patton was cute or had any desire to make out with him.

i honestly had no idea that this show was going on until about 12 that day, and i went because someone had an extra ticket.

thursday night was no doubt the best night of my life.. 8oclock at the lincoln center for the roots then caught the midnight lovage show at bowery ballroom.

were you at the first or second performance? i have a feeling the first, because i didnt catch the syrup antics.. or maybe i was fetching a drink at the time..the midnight show was amazing, dan and mike patton appeared quite libated, but who knows with mike patton..he really doesnt need alcohol to let loose now does he?

once again dan comes through with an amazing concept..as for live vs. recorded..its was near perfect..the bowery has amazing
sound, the levels were perfect..mike pattons voive is amazing, kid koala blends like no other.

two shows one night, im still recovering..

btw i have pictures from both shows...email me at michael@krushedice.com or contact me on aim: spooky coldcuts
if you want some shots.

peace.

do rock stars think theyre above physical confrontation?

had i been there with my lady and that occurred we more than likely would have been removed from the place by security and all would have been good just because theyre "crazy artists"

because you release a cd of suggestive music doesnt mean you should go above and beyond in performing

i hope that both the performers and the audience are above physical confrontation at shows. resort to violence, why?

you would have been removed because your impatience and insecurity within your own relationship would be a disruption to the show, and all would have been good because the show would continue minus one hothead.

going above and beyond is what made the show the "experience" that it was.

youre there to perform, moshing is cool, crowd interaction is cool, but what was described, i interpret that as disrespect. so you mean to tell me youre there with your woman, dude would have pulled that you would have laughed and been on some wayne/garth "party on" ish? im saying before it even went down i would have been like "take that somewhere else".

it has nothing to do with insecurity, and everything to do with buffoonish antics that i dont need at a show

they really do need to be careful who they do this to. it really is a matter of reading the crowd and reading the "victim", because like you said, some people might not want to go along with it. for me, it's not the worst thing that's ever happened and all the action stayed stayed above the neck, so i'm okay. i was a bit embarrassed, but i'm not angry. plus, i'm not much of a fighter and neither are the guys i was with.

if you push away/tell him to step and it continues then thats going to far....i agree, but to a fan (and they are most likely to be one if they are up front) those antics are great, great memories for a fan. I wouldnt mind if he had done that to my girlfriend, as long as she was ok with it. i personally cant watch shows from the floor anymore, rather get there early and grab a seat it their is a balcony.

to me... if you're going to a show based on the album *lovage* with freakin' unpredictable *mike patton*... i don't know... it's to be expected...

and if you see it start to go down, and have a problem with it, you should leave. don't wait until it happens to you to throw a fit... know what i mean?

but i can totally understand being upset... it just seems that, you can tell what direction a show is going, and you have the choice to leave.

Yeah Ming + FS is dope to me, don't like their new
album because too much 120 bpm stuff on it, but
otherwise its dope. I don't usually go to a dnb,
hip hop joint to dance myself, I do the exact same thing
you say you hate to see, look at the dj's SKILLS, (not
the dj) and nod head. Peace.
