that there's talk of a reunion tour for a group named N*ggaz With Attitudes, and the rumor is that Eminem will be replacing Eazy-E?!?!? I mean....what?! It's hilarious on its face but this dude will spend like 85% of the time censoring the lyrics! Why wouldn't it be Snoop or Kendrick?!

all about them checks at this point. we accept ghostwriters in rap, a white dude in a group called niggaz with attitudes, etc. hip hip has been pimped out and hoed and is dead as I know it. the fact that cube and ren would even consider this shit is disappointing. snoop said he wouldn't do it out of respect for Eazy back when they attempted to do this in the early 00's because you can't replace Eazy.

any kind of sense in 99...and even that never happened. Whole new era, and it woulda just been a group making some modern hot songs without any message or true "attitude." At this point.............ha. MC Ren's stage presence is horrible nowadays, too.

Detox has had 3,017,884,172,222,916,614,911 different release dates. Now we get "Hey! Dre's gonna release some kind of half album on August 1st, a kind of soundtrack to the NWA movie!"

"Oh wait no no. That's not what we meant. On August 1st, Dre will release the RELEASE date for the half album NWA movie soundtrack type thing......."

Ahahahahahaha. Wat bro.

I'd bet every single dollar I have plus probably take out a loan to bet more that August 1st comes and goes and we don't hear a fucking peep from this idiot.

Quick Thoughts:

So dope to see Jon Connor's aftermath stuff see some light, I was worried he'd end up like Bishop Lamont.
Seeing Ice Cube & Xzibit show up is awesome too.
Anyone know about Justus or COLD 187um?
Huge look for BJ the Chicago Kid, hope he stole a track for his album.
Candice Pillay is so random, she used to be on Bangledesh's (non-existent) label why he was the hot producer...she came up.
I wonder how many songs will make me say "Damn I miss Nate Dogg" when I hear the hook?

01. Intro f. Dr. Dre
02. Talk About It f. King Mez & Justus
03. Genocide f. Kendrick Lamar, Marsha Ambrosius & Candice Pillay
04. It’s All On Me f. Justus & BJ the Chicago Kid
05. All In a Day’s Work f. Anderson Paak & Marsha Ambrosius
06. Darkside/Gone f. King Mez, Marsha Ambrosius & Kendrick Lamar
07. Loose Cannons f. Xzibit & COLD 187um
08. Issues f. Ice Cube & Anderson Paak
09. Deep Water f. Kendrick Lamar & Justus
10. One Shot One Kill f. Snoop Dogg & Jon Connor
11. Just Another Day f. Asia Bryant & The Game
12. For the Love of Money f. Jill Scott & Jon Connor
13. Satisfiction f. Snoop Dogg, Marsha Ambrosius & King Mez
14. Animals f. Anderson Paak
15. Medicine Man f. Eminem, Candice Pillay & Anderson Paak
16. Talking To My Diary f. Dr. Dre

Hell Yeah!

Interesting to see him on this,as him and Dre had long-standing beef. He'd asserted that Dre stole his sound and beats on The Chronic. Glad they appear to have finally squashed it.

It also at least partially explains Xzibit bringing out Above the Law to perform with him at the recent Art of Rap concerts.

I'd recommend their first four releases: Living Like Hustlers, the Vocally Pimpin EP, Black Mafia Life, and Uncle Sam's Curse (that's the one with Black Superman). Their other two albums. Time Will Reveal and Legends, are really good too.

I also believe at the time.. sometime around 93 or 94 that the entire G-Funk sound Dre was getting all the credit for creating for was actually created by him and ATL.

the suburbs of Dallas. Dallas has a completely different sound from the
rest of Texas hip-hop wise. Way more boom bap, alternative, or hipster
rap leanings there than the rest of Texas. It's a whatever they feel
like type sound a lot of times, which I think is dope. Can't cosign
this guy tho. Haven't heard enough. Just giving background of the scene
there.

No Quik?
Eiht?
King Tee?
And when you think of Compton nowadays you have to include YG

Would've been cool if this soundtrack was a mix of Compton past and present

i feel like limiting the opportunities for ppl to buy the music just gives them an excuse to 'pirate' the music more often than it results in them signing up w/the exclusive retailer just to buy the music.

like right now there's a Prince song exclusively on Spotify. i wanted to hear it but didn't want to sign up for Spotify. so i looked elsewhere. *further comment w/held*

fuck you.

-lots of no names
-the protege' is heavily fetured (kendrick)
-old friends coming back for an appearance (snoop, cube, eminem, game)
-the surprise guest (Big hutch!!!!)
-ZERO features from popular artists of today (HELL YEAH)
-the lone solo track at the end

i'm optimistic. i wonder who helped with the beats tho. so far i only know of cardo & dj dahi

- for starters, how could anyone be anything but excited about this? It came out of nowhere, we've heard nothing from it, and most of us haven't even heard of half the artists featured here save for the usual Dre collaborators. Will it let me down? Maybe (probably.) But the fact he's comfortable enough to put his name on the project and release it properly is really encouraging.

- "inspired by the movie" is a frail excuse to make an album but who cares? The last guy to use this same excuse was Jay-Z; he would release what remains his most inspired work post Black Album and revitalize his career.

- this is a power move for Apple Music. This is undeniably the biggest rap release since Watch the Throne, and maybe the biggest non Taylor Swift release since, I don't know, Eminem Show. If you're Apple and make a deal with artists like Drake,Trent Reznor, or Dr.Dre, THIS is exactly the kind of dream scenario you're deep down hoping for. Basically anyone who's paid attention to popular music in the last 20 years is going to want to hear this...and if the album is actually good this could alter the landscape.

The album will more than likely come and go in between his other business ventures. That's it. This is where things have been headed for a long time, at least the past decade or so.
I have no interest in hearing this record but the fact it's in the can after a few weeks is a pretty telling sign.

Because everything boils down to "being mad" or "hating" with people like you. It's entirely possible to just not be interested in anything, it doesn't require disdain, but I wouldn't expect you and your ilk to understand anything beyond outrageous hyperbole.

if you think about it he didn't have to drop this album. He's one of the richest artists in the world and the apple deal skyrocketed that fact. So if he's confident enough to release an album, i'm sure it will be at least pretty damn good.

After all his last album was chronic 2001 and we live in a post TPAB world now...i'm sure dre wouldn't release a mediocre product and ruin his legacy after that

Why would he be listed as a feature on 2 songs

Unless you're dying to hear a 50 yr. old billionaire rap about that life, I suggest you settle in and be happy he's at least putting out an album.

All the Dre convo's the past few years and this dude drops this bomb to a luke warm response and people hating on a fucking tracklist? I'm excited as hell...

How often do we even hear projects anymore where we haven't heard 5 songs b4 it comes out, and I salute Dre for using some young's that people aren't familiar with.

Also, I salute Dre for admitting Detox probably sucked, because the leaks sure made it seem that way, and wait, we get a fucking premier/dre track?!?! I can't wait!

He's one of the 'I hate how my voice sounds' cats. No surprise that his voice is switched up. It's super refreshing to hear rappers rapping like it's important to them even if the topics are what they are. Somebody said it on here that too many rappers be rapping like they don't really have time to bother with rapping. And I was steady clapping to that cuz I hear it sometimes too.

The production is what I went in looking for and yep...it's there, so I'm happy off 1.5 listens. I'll wake up in the morning and ride around with it for more. All in a day's work is my shit!

Dre fucking did it.

Production has that widescreen sound.

Dre pulling these Kendrick flows sounds surprisingly good.

2-3 song stretch in the middle thats a mess but that could sound better (or worse on more listens).

Love the Primo track.

Not sure about Justus but he doesn't ruin anything.

I'll give a top 5 and give it another listen or two before I give my random thoughts. In order of appearance:

1. It's All on Me
2. All in a Day's Work
3. Just Another Day
4. Animals
5. Talking to My Diary

Edit: I'll put down one thought after one listen cause it's a certainty: Anderson Paak is the fucking *truth*.

Some of these niggas old as hell and haven't changed much content-wise at all. Also too much Dre rapping. That's the one thing I didn't want. A 50 year old gangsta rapper. Kendrick did his thing. Xzibit did his thing too. Would have preferred more features from the younger emcees from Cali. Also, who used that beat at the beginning of "Issues"? It has Madlib or Oh No written all over it.

I've been working with Connor, he and I go way way back. My parts for that song weren't done at Dre's studio, although I have been there for other sessions many a night since I moved to LA last year.

It's inspiring to hear true visionaries at work. I know this reply probably isn't ripe with details but the camp in general is pretty private and honestly it's just simple- everyone who was a part of this process is just fucking outstanding at what they do. I'm obviously biased, but man...Connor's album is going to floor people.

Surprised how modern the production is along with the flows; which is a good and bad. Not sure I like Snoop being so...non-Snoopish, lol.

On first listen its a worthy album to bear the Dre name, nothing sticks out for me the way they did immediately on 2001 however

The modern sound is good and bad.

The vocals, including what you said about Snoop, are kind of perplexing. It's got a TDE feel which I am lukewarm about. I wanted more straight up rhyming rather than the old-Eminem style verses with all kinds of sound effects and voice effects interrupting the rhymes.

The beats are uber-complex and I may even go as far as to say that a lot of it is over-produced, though I always say I have historically preferred Dre's beats to be layered and complex a la The Chronic/Efil4zaggin as opposed to simplistic and clean a la 2001 and the bulk of his 00s work.

So ... that's some basic stuff. But I'll be back with way more thoughts after I get through it a third time.

One way or the other it's sorta exciting to be able to say "yo I'm listening to the new Dre album." Haven't said that since I was 15 and I was bootlegging early versions of What's the Difference, The Watcher and Fuck You and playing them for a non-alcoholic high school freshmen party I was at and gauging reactions.

I'm not even a HUGE Dre stan but I really like this

lot of nitpicky complaints above, but hey, this IS the lesson...

I love the experimental flows... I don't want the Chronic 2001 part II in 2015... I like how modern the album feels but also feels "classic dre" I'm impresssed with how he meshed those 2 worlds, and as usual the quality of Dre's music from an engineering level is at it's own level... I think it's cool he got most of the usual suspects (game, em, snoop, X, kendrick) but would've liked Kurupt and my east coast bias hit me a few times when I thought damn, I wish either jay or nas or jada were on this track or that track... But at least Premier is on here, dre/premo collab lived up to hype for sure. If this it for Dre definitely finishes 3-3 imo

I desperately want Kendrick to do an album fully produced by Dre

Big fan of the production on a lot of it.

Looking forward to hearing the the instrumental version, to be honest...

Also, shout out to them for sampling "Spirits of Ancient Egypt" by Wings on the second half of "Darkside/Gone."

The good:
most of the beats
Kendrick
Xzibit
Anderson Paak
"One Shot, One Kill"
"Genocide"
"Deep Water"
"Animals" (Primo did his thing)
"Issues" and "Medicine Men" are decent enough

The not-so-bad (and sometimes bad):
Dre sounds awful as a rapper.
STOP FUCKING SHRIEKING AT ME!!!! The yelling derails "Loose Cannons" and almost fucks up "Deep Water."
King Mez and Justus - Stars are not born
The album isn't much fun

I mean, "The Chronic" was mostly blunted beats and lyrics sessions, but you could tell everyone was enjoying themselves. This album seems waaaay too overwrought. And yeah, after a while, everyone starts to sound like Kendrick.

While many of us can't really get into the ones that aren't our favorites

Perhaps this is one of those albums that gets better the longer you digest

But all that loud screevhingg and constant hammering on my brain makes it hard to give it that time

Coming back to it a year from now might reveal more flavor to many of us

Besides a HUGE letdown to me, lemme see, try n stay positive...

- a lot of musical ideas rangin from good to genius, mos of them not so good in execution, and mos of them way too short.

- A record with beautiful dynamics thruout, mostly mix but also melodywise.

- A great moment in hip hop history where two legends collab on a dope track.

- A chance to hear a lotta dope emcees drop verses, some real solid.

That about sums it up to me.

Now, a coupla ?s -

- Wheres the instant classic cuts, that has that timeless feel?

- What happened to Dres calm delivery? (I know, Kendrick...)

- Wheres the slammin drums?

- Wheres the thick westcoastish soundscapes that he helped build, and can we get em back?

...And so on, and so on...

I just watched some studio footage coupla days ago, Snoop went with a WHOLE LOTTA west coast heavyhitters and created MONSTER upon MONSTERS of beats for a record called Detox. That was just half an hour outa round 15 yrs. Of production for another Dre album.

How much AMAZING material was lost and replaced by the mess that is this project?

I can understand Dre not wantin to follow up with carbon Melman or Storch, but at least keep that sound you helped create in the mix. Sure sure, you say, its in there. For bout a coupla minutes max.

I can understand Dre bein inspired by his youth in Compton and in the music biz, and wantin to tap into that energy, but why the beats reflect what is hot amongst the youth today (I.E. Trap) and not what was?

Aight, ima stop for now with concludin that the Dre x Premier collabo was all I wanted it to be.

and he let it play through twice. I had the same reaction to this as I did the Slum album (if you can call it that) from earlier this year: I didn't dislike it, but I'll probably never play it again. The production comes off as the musical version of the old man in the club, showing up in clothes the young boys wear knowing he's well beyond that sort of thing.
If he wanted to make a companion piece to the movie (not interested in that either) after being inspired by it, I think that's a great thing-sometimes taking a look back at yourself can have that effect on an artistic person. But Dre and the rest of his peers (Primo, Pete, etc) are entitled at this point to indulge creatively in whatever they choose, and I can respect that.

It's solid for what it is, but it doesn't push the envelope in any real way. And for Dr. Dre, that's a bit of a letdown. I really wish dj quik had some production on compton, but I'm happy dj premier has a joint on this since it's dr. dre's last album.

Feel the same sentiment, but sometimes they play the creative game too safe, just like Jay.

Which might be too generous.

Too loud.
Too unfocused.
Too many unknown featured artists who are instantly forgettable.

I want to expand on that last point. When you listen to The Chronic, everyone single guest is distinguishable and memorable. Snoop, Daz, Kurupt, Rage, RBX, etc. None of these newbies hit me the same way after three listens. If Dre was going to give them this opportunity on this stage, he better have made sure they did something special, which isn't the case and ultimately makes this another Chronic 2001.

anyway after a couple of listens i definitely dig it. I stopped caring for detox years ago so this came as a huge surprise and had ZERO expectations.

The good

-King mez..boy oh boy he destroyed "talk about it" and overall i feel he's best out of all them new proteges
-Kendrick stole the show...he absolutely killed his verses
-Justus is just a mini drake but hey...them hooks worked
-Anderson.Paak got potential to become a star
-Xzibit brought me back to the restless era, sick!
-Snoop on "one shoot kill" brought back snoop doggy dogg from the dead..haven't heard him spit like that in over 10 years, amazing!
-no old farts featured just for nostalgia value.
-the beats except for a couple of duds are fantastic and the mixing is impeccable
-love the skits and all the beat switches all over the album (the kendrick/TDE influence is evident)

The bad

-jon connor is fucking bland
-cube didn't fit this album at all
-cold 187 um was a wasted feature
-i feel like marsha's vocals are losing strenght
-the eminem track was bad as expected
-2-3 of them beats are unacceptable on a dre album

The verdict

8/10

i had an hell of a time listening to this record for the first time, and the following ones were fun as well. i'm sure it won't leave my rotation any soon. if this is really his grand finale i'm happy with it. like i said i had ZERO expectations for a dre album in 2015.

RIP to Nate Dogg....It just seems like if it's a Dre album all of them need to be around somehow..

The vocal style on here takes a little while to get used to (sometimes I couldn't even recognize who was who rappin).

But overall I dig the album...no classic..and no stand out single hits...but a good album.

before I write anything, these are just knee jerk first listen reactions, though I can't really see a record like this growing on me at all (but you never know), anyway:

This album doesn't really have any tracks in their entirety that blow me away, though "Just Another Day", "Animal" and "Talking To My Diary" are standouts. Pretty much, for me at least, the positives here are Kendrick Lamar and the fact that no track, as a whole, is flat out horrible (excpet for "Talk About It", those vocals are fucking terrible). The negatives are that, although these beats kind of bang, they just sound so average, especially coming from Dr. Dre. I know it's stupid to make statements like this, because I have no idea how this record was created, but this production honestly sounds like something Dre could do easily. It just sounds like he didn't really challenge himself musically and/or just threw this album together very (maybe too?) fast. Again, I know this is an extremely unfair comparison due to the time difference, but in the past 2 albums it seems to me like Dre was making a big statment with his production, whereas here you could find these beats on your typical mainstream rap album probably. The best beat here was probably the Premo track or the last song. Another thing, a lot of these hooks are just horrible (and in some cases horribly cliche). In addition to that, though I was hype that Dre went with some guests that I hadn't heard of, all of these dudes are just kind of meh on the mic. All the lyrical highlights come from guests who are not the previously unkown (or unkown to me) guys who Dre brought in (see, Snoop, Em, Kendrick). I'm underwhelmed to be honest, but thats ok because I didn't even expect to hear any new Dre in the first place.

Unlike what seems like the past 10-15 years of Dre beats, I wasn't hearing super-sterile mix, slow, heavy piano chord and string beats or quirky, circus sideshow Eminem stuff. It sounded good and I might even eff with an instrumental version of this album.

As noted by others, I didn't like all the yelling, screaming, and strained/emotional vocals.

Off one listen it's a good, 3 outta 5 mic type album.

I'm surprised there isn't really any obvious radio/club hits or joints that will enter the West Coast Classic canon. If this was someone who dropped albums every 1 to 2 years this release would make more "sense" to me. It's well produced and a good listen, screaming vocals aside. But as his first album in 16 years and possibly last release ever, it's an odd way to go out.

I don't like the beat anymore because its just a loop. ALC didn't FLIP IT ENOUGH!

Agree with everything above besides For the Love of Money. I liked that song but it wasn't one I immediately cared to revisit. Those were Animals, Genocide, Just Another Day and Satisfiction. Everything else I liked at varying levels, and have gone through the album thrice now. Only tracks I outright do not like at all are Issues and Loose Cannons (though Xzibit's verse nearly saved the latter). I'm also extremely lukewarm on Talk About It, especially as an album opener.

Surprised with the lukewarm reception... took me until last night to listen to it because I was expecting to be underwhelmed and I'm only half way through (Mr Robot took precedence once the food was ready) , but the lady and I were rockin' to this when I was cooking dinner last night.

First thoughts are mainly that most of the vocals are GOOD ENOUGH, not standout, but absolutely good enough because the production is fucking FLAMES. Pretty much every track was knocking my head off up to "One Shot, One Kill" which was the first that struck me as a bit by-numbers, just wasn't moving me much, but Genocide through to Deep Water left me with my fucking mouth hanging open. How has Dre managed to use AWWWLLL the stock 2015 production ideas and made something sounding this FRESH, but this DRE? It's still got that lean, it's still sounding like it needs to come out of a '64 lowrider.

My biggest question is how did Dre produce 16 tracks of releasable music and NOT call it Detox? He must love that monkey on his back...

In response to Reply # 0

I know I didn't! thought the beats were cool enough, but I thought the rapping sucked. then I wasn't interested in the beats anymore; they were kinda bland. "still DRE" was everywhere and I was over it. then "forgot about dre" came out as a single and I hated it even more!

but then summer rolled around and I saw the up in smoke tour, and I saw how these songs BANGED in arenas, and I started to come around. especially "the next episode," which was the summer single. shit just overpowered all the nerdy stuff I was listening to at the time ("nia," the J5 album, even the MMLP).

I was amazed at how these sparse songs could have so much power. "Xxplosive" was like what, only 4 different sounds?? "Ackrite" same thing.

and finally digesting albums like "fantastic vol 2"--with simple-sounding (but not simple at all!) beats and rhymes more concerned with vibe than complex acrobatics--made me fully appreciate 2001. dre stripped off all the g-funk samples and hooks from his sound, moved away from the dramatic mike dean-sounding live instrument/synth thing (e.g. "nas is coming"), and went into the millennium with his stripped-down, clean, and LOUD version of boom bap.

now I think it's a classic. probably up there with "the chronic" in terms of quality and creativity.

SOOO...I'm gonna give "compton" some time to marinate before I fully judge it. I suspect i'll warm to it just like I did 2001. whereas 2001 was a back-to-basics kinda record, "compton" is striking me as HUGE pop effort, in the spirit of an MJ album. can't be mad at that.

I see this album as actually anti-pop, sans "Animals". There's no blatant single attempts, none of that.

Who knows though. Knowing Dre there will be like 7 power singles from this album that change the course of rap and I'll have my foot in my mouth.

man I know, what could be some singles on this album... "animals"? "for the love of money"? "it's all on me"? he definitely didn't try to conquer radio with a "nuthin but a g thang" or "still DRE" with this one.

as for my "MJ pop" comment, I was thinking more in terms of production and not necessarily "hits". like this big, huge, clean, refined sound with multiple layers. thinking about it now, I probably used MJ cuz that "murda" harmony at the end of "genocide" reminded me of the vox arrangement on "streetwalker" for whatever reason!

Word. I agree with this wholeheartedly. There was definitely a focus on Dre's part in making the sound on this big and almost haunting. Lots of layers, I'd almost go as far as to say "overproduced" though I don't want to sound like I'm being critical. The production is top-notch.

If there's anything I want to criticize about this album it's the vocals.

the highs on that one ('Next Ep', 'Xxplosive', 'Still Dre', 'Forgot About Dre') are higher than the highs on Compton ('Animals', 'Genocide', 'For the Love of Money', 'Satisfiction', 'Deep Water', 'Talking to My Diary') but overall i find 2001 to be so uneven i don't consider it a classic album. maybe i should listen again - it's been a few years.

...but it's based on just how high the highs were/are and the staying power of the albums 10-12 GREAT songs. But there's absolutely some fat that could be trimmed from that album. I actually just listened to it (2001) last week and confirmed this long-standing opinion of mine. I think Light Speed (too boring and redundant sounding), Murder Ink (boring take on that sample), Housewife (redundant because it was on 2 other albums at the time), and all the skits could be cut (the skits served no purpose) and the album would be much stronger as a cohesive sounding final product. But like I said, I still consider it a classic because those highs were ludicrously high and have immense staying power.

I play it once a month probably, at the very least. Shit still sounds as fresh as the first time I heard it. That beat is brilliant in its simplicity. And Nate Dogg...god, Nate Dogg......couldn't ever possibly say enough about his performance on that track. "Don't wanna treat you wrong, don't wanna lead ya on, here baby hit the bong, while the West Coast rolls alooooooong" ugghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, that shit is fucking FIRE.

Ima listen to this shit right now thank you very much.

and wonder if dre was listening to raekwon's "rainy dayz" when he made this song.

followed immediately by reading Royce's 25 essential songs on Complex and reading a bunch of articles off of that.

Anyway all of this refreshed my memory about The Way I Be Pimpin' (which I had forgot about entirely) but didn't really explain the "Royce going off on the radio" comment so I still need explanation of that. Haha. Thanks.

He said in interview with Vibe that Em sat "Dre down like a pupil and coach him on rhymes." Dre got pissed, and cut just about all the tracks that Royce wrote for Dre on 2001. Thus, "The Way I Be Pimpin" became "XXXplosive."

I don't like the hooks. I don't like the way Dre sounds when he raps. A lot of the beats sound too busy. I do like Kendrick on it. And I like Animals. But a lot of it doesn't seem like fun or interesting or memorable music that'll I be coming back to in three months, let alone sixteen years

It wasn't a bad album per se. It's just not an album I want to hear from Dre.

Snoop and Dre do Kendrick karaoke? No thanks.

I want to hear Dre sound like Dre has always sounded. Dre rapping with K-dot's flow is the WORST. And Snoop is even worse than Dre at it.

Premo beat was dope (of course).

Anderson Paak sounds like he'd be at home on one of the last few Roots albums (sounded Dice Raw-ish).

For the Love of Money bangs.
Kendrick is dope as usual.
Xzibit did his thing. Em wasn't bad. Game even dropped a nice verse.

Cube's verse was wack but wasn't expecting much. Glad he was on it though.

King Mez and Justus don't bring much.

It was missing a lot tho.

Should have been classic Dre beats with a who's who of West Coast MC's. Same formula as always.
Dre mostly sounded like shit.
Definitely won't have the lasting legacy his first two albums have.
It has its moments though.

Like I said, not bad, but I expect better from Dre.

Some songs are messed up by their endings (the yelling on Loose Cannons and the beat that Eminem raps over on Medicine Man).

I don't care for Dre's voice on this. didn't even realize it was him at first. and like most everyone has said, Cube was a wasted verse. Justus and King Mez didn't impress me. Kendrick and Anderson.Paak own this album.

Xzibit and Game were dope, Xzibit way more so. Cold 187um was dope too. Genocide is the most Dre sounding song. Animals is my favorite song, and the team up lives up to the hype, at least for me.

Snoop sounds the hungriest he's sounded in years on One Shot One Kill. I like some of Jon Connor's stuff, but his verse here is kinda throwaway.

Reminds me of latter career Prince. You can hear that it's made by someone who
is talented and extremely knowledgeable about the *parts* which create good music,
but those parts do not create anything strong overall or anything that sticks.
Ultimately, it's just 'ok' (mediocre) music.
I can't believe there isn't ONE song on here that say "Damn!"
The better songs on here sound like something that's leading up to a great song
(or "Damn!" moment, if you will), but that moment never comes.
The only thing I'm amazed by, here, is how mediocre the whole thing is.
Very well mixed and engineered tho! lol.

Was listening in the car and I couldn't wait to get to the next album... Shit is just hard to listen to... There's a few good tracks, a few good beats, but that's it...

I'd still much rather hear everything he did for Detox... Just release all the demos and reference tracks and anything else in a big ass box set... I'd pay $50 for it...

No clue why Dre feels the need to rap like Kendrick. I think Animals should be a single, really love the message in it. Did take me a little bit to get used to Anderson Paak, not really hearing what y'all are hearing with him, voice is kinda annoying. Overall, I probably will never listen to this album again.

i thought it would have remained exclusively on itunes for a bit longer

as for the album itself, it's pretty underwhelming. there is a lot of stellar production value but most of the beats and non-kendrick rappers are forgettable. they are very well made though

"animals" is ridiculous. i wonder how long premier has been holding on to that beat b/c it sounds like something he made during the peak-of-his-powers phase of his career
