"Jay is playin wit him..."

Come on... You think "Super Ugly" is the dart??? he obviously just threw that out there to take the buzz off Ether... Jay aint even got serious on him yet. If Ether is the best Nas got... which it seems it is... Then he in trouble. Listen to shit like "You Dont Know" , "People Talkin", "Pre-Game", "Mind Right (rmx), etc... This aint nuthin... I think Jay-Z about to really take it up Nas ass.

Compare the lyrics of "People Talkin" to "Ether"... no comparision and that wasnt even a direct Nas dis.. Supa Ugly is Jay's silly shit. Its about to get real ugly. Listen to the Intro tracks from Vol 3 and Rock La Familia... come on... Takeover and Supa Ugly and the tip of the ice burg.

I dont mean to sound like a Jay-Z rider but come on... you know this mans music... he should make a sequel to "People Talkin" called... "Nas is Talkin" haha!

Squeamish kids, yall get the eff outta this post (c) Jay-Z

if he put it out there then we gotta judge it and so far Nas destroyed Jay and by the time Jay comes back with something real (if he decides to) then he'll look like an ass for keeping the beef alive. and I'm a big Jay-Z fan so don't waste time calling me a hater. but we all know just by listening to Stillmatic that Nas has many other things on his mind besides this dumb ass beef with Jay, I mean how many ways can you say "I fucked your baby's moms" that kinda makes Jay-Z seem like the dickrider, like damn you went outta your way to fuck this dude's baby's mother just so you can rap about it, if that's the best Jigga got then that's pretty weak. that's like a Dan Rather blowing something up so he can have something to say on the 11o'clock news

You don't get multiple chances to respond in a battle. You bring it hard the first time. If you need two chances to respond to one dis track then you lost. Nas ain't replying to Jay again so this is the end of the battle.

exactly that's why this whole Beanie Sigel/Lox battle is so irrelevant now, it's to the point where the streets don't even care, when you're expecting the next diss track it gets weak cuz it's like damn I knew you were gonna say that. If Jay wants to avoid looking like a sucka he should just bow out gracefully and say "today the best lyricist won"

WTF Jay saving shit for. This battle should be over for now. Money keeps playing himself, enuffs enuff. Let it die and move on, and if Jay does respond with another diss song after Nas left it at that, then clearly Jay would look like a bitch in my opinion.

"Takeover" is an effective battle record because Jay-Z's insults are based on popular opinion, not just empty taunts. Jay-Z acknowledged that Nas "had a spark when (he) started," used to be a "top ten" MC and that he had "one hot album." It's not often you heard a battle record that includes lyrics that recognize the talent of your opponent.

That's why "Ether" was weak to me. On the record, Nas has a few interesting lines, but he acts like Jay-Z is a wack MC with no credibility or clout, and that's just delusional. Nas could've made his points better if they were closer to reality. A bunch of homophobic slurs and disses about wardrobe/trend-changing (name me a rapper who has stayed exactly the same for his whole career) aren't cuttin' it.

But now, this "Super Ugly" thing is super retarded. Jay-Z is running the battle into the ground and starting to appear a bit obsessed. Nas has come out and said "no more battle records," but I can almost guarantee that Kay Slay has been calling him all day to get him in the studio.

If Jay-Z had left it alone, I think people would've said "Takeover" was the superior record. Now, people are going to side with Nas.

If anything Jay was acting like Nas was wack. I think Ether had more sting because he called Jay out on a lot of shit. "How much of Biggie's rhymes is gonna come out your fat lips...Biggie's your man then you got the nerve to say that you're better than Big." Heads are tired of Jay quoting Big every other verse. He needed to be checked on that. "Eminem murdered you on your own shit." More truth. If anything Jay played himself coming back with a weak dis. That makes Ether look even more potent because Jay couldn't come back from it and get the last word.

>If anything Jay was acting like
>Nas was wack.

Jay-Z said, and I quote, "Went from Top 10 to not mentioned at all." Before "Oochie Wally," Nas's last radio hit was "You Owe Me," right? A lot of space there. People were not talking about Nas at all. And the "Nas fell off" conversation was not just relegated to Internet message boards.

"How
>much of Biggie's rhymes is
>gonna come out your fat
>lips...Biggie's your man then you
>got the nerve to say
>that you're better than Big."

This is a common (and somewhat valid) argument against Jay-Z that pops up here and on other boards, but I never heard it used against him anywhere else. It's irrelevant, really. Tell me exactly how many lines Biggie wrote on "Blueprint."

"Eminem murdered you
>on your own shit." More
>truth.

Even if it's true, is it a substantial argument? What about the rest of the album?

If anything Jay played
>himself coming back with a
>weak dis. That makes Ether
>look even more potent because
>Jay couldn't come back from
>it and get the last
>word.

this I agree with.

that dis is relevant as hell...he is clowin Jay for referencing Big in his rhymes (like frienf or foe 2) and spittin his lyrics in tribute, and then talkin about how he is better than Big. you know that shit...stop frontin. It aint the biggest deal....but nothing in these disses is a HUGE deal. We all laughed at that "1 dope album every 10 year avg" shit but we all know Nas was still comin with it after Illmatic...this shit is just funny to hear.

Ether beats Takeover but mostly cuz is just 1 verse vs. all of Ether. Still...Nas has made his comeback.

If i recall... this has went two rounds so far...

Stillmatic (H to the Omo) vs. Takeover

Ether vs. Super Ugly

now the Takeover was a more serious than Super Ugly but it still wasnt sinister like you know it could be. And out of all the 4 tracks listed... Takeover was the illest regardles... and if you wanna include "People Talkin", thats the best track out of all these. Why didnt he go directly at Nas in that song... (which if you hear the lyrics... blows Ether away) I dont know. And i'm not sayin Super Ugly was wack at all. I'm just sayin it was silly except for that last verse which he got in him a little. I want one more round fuck dat... and Nas is gonna have to respond to Jay-Z's final record... belieeee dat.

Honestly this same shit can be applied to Jay Z before the Blueprint, cause after RD, there were no more hot albums(mediocre maybe), unless you're talkin saleswise, but understand Nas didn't start going platinum until after that one hot album, same applies to Jay. It's like an ugly person calling another person ugly.

And if that's the case, then Nas should have used that in his response record instead of commenting on his lips and his sexual orientation. Nas came back with a bunch of disconnected insults.

are part of battling: welcome to hip-hop, your man Jay was talking about condoms and baby-seats so you shouldn't really be commenting on Nas calling gay anyways, there are no boundaries for talking shit, point blank: Jay lost the vote at the number one hip-hop station in NYC, end of discussion.

"takeover" and "ether"

"takeover" = exaggeration and clowning, but based on reality
"ether" = empty taunts

that's it.

"super ugly" = super overkill.

I'm a nas fan too, so quit with that childish ish.

a whole bunch of people were screaming "nas is finished, his career is over" after takeover. Now everyone wants to side with him. granted, no one actually believed either of these dudes could end each other's career, BUT, people have left nas out in the cold for too long, and if anything, this wax battle has shown heads that Nas is still one of if not the Games top emcee (at least in the past 5-10 years or so)...when you strip away all the bullshit, and just look at lyrics, nas probably takes the crown, on all 4 albums. so many people paying attention to the extra ish, and granted, jay has put out more listenable albums (if your a beat fiend which im not) but when u listen to nas' lyrics from any of his 4 albums (excluding bravehearts, i havent heard it, dont want to)...you can tell he hasnt fallen off at all.if anything he's matured, but he has way more subject range than Jay ever had...and i personally think jay's at his best when he's being introspective (songs like song cry, regrets, you must love me, aint no love, etc), and boring when he's doing anything else. The obsession with nas by jay is clearly evident, he's been shouting out his name since vol. 2 (who's the best emcee...bigge jay z or nas) (tits firm like foxy nature nas and AZ)...lets stop acting like Jay z's not human..he can be insecure, and still be a good rapper..but its evident. Im glad to see nas handle this so much better than Jay...nas hasnt rushed out anything just to get the streets ear...nas took calculated moves, then pulled out on his own terms..i hope this thing dies down now..these two could make good money together (see analyze this by shaq feat nas and Jay z) ...im actually looking forward to nas's album to hear his subject matter, something i havent done for a "commercial" hip hop album in about 2 years.

>music... he should make a
>sequel to "People Talkin" called...
>"Nas is Talkin" haha!

Nas killed it with one song, the more songs Jay makes, the weaker he looks because he should be able to finish it with one song, but he is insecure because he knows that he does not have the lyrics to tough Nas. I mean come on dawg, weren't you listening to the radio last night, Nas killed Jay and Jay runs Hot 97, even his own station couldn't lie for him. they had Fat Joe, Flex, the Lox, Kay Slay the Drama King everyone up there, and they all picked Nas. Flex even tried to balance the scales a little bit and said it was 55/45 and Fat Man Scoop called him out and said just because Def Jam is paying your bills dont lie. Sorry to burst your bubble killer, but even NY gave it to Nas and Jay is the self-proclaimed King of NY. he even hit Angie Martinez up on her 2-way so they would delay the final decision until today, fam is getting pathetic. You make the killer and then move on. "People Talk" doesn't even address Nas and he uses the cleets line of Biggie anyways, so Nas can come at him again if he wanted to, but he probably won't because the city has spoken, Jay should just let it die down. Like my man said on the radio last night, "stick to the radio joints, because that is what we like to hear from you".

"They don't want to see me on top, too egotistical, talkin slick shit, just like these bitches do" Nas

is that Jay/Def Jam are all paying Hot 97. They're in their pockets and Jay lost on a station that plays his records all day. You never hear Nas on Hot 97 but Jay got songs on there all the time. His ego must be bruised. If they give the word at 3pm that Jay won then you know Russell and Lyor cut them a check.

Hot 97 is Jay Z's bread and butter when it comes to radio play. They show him more love than anyone. He lost on the #1 station in New York. The same station that gave him a platform(Summer Jam) to start the beef with Nas and Mobb Deep.

In a battle you rip someone and get the momentum. They rip you then you better steal that momentum back or you're finished. That's why Jay lost. Super Ugly didn't match Ether. It's a wrap.

but sometimes you gotta go with the underdog, Jigga and Nas is two sides of a coin, Jigga been on top for so long (at least sales wise) and Nas been selling records but he lost that "spark" because everybody wanted another Illmatic (honestly though what rapper makes the same album more than once besides Jay-Z who made Vol 1, 2, and 3 about exactly the same) but I think overall lyrically I'd have to say Nas is stronger. If you just take Ether which to me addresses all of Jigga's weaknesses, namely his HUGE ego and his dickriding Biggie's verses, and then take Supa Ugly which is just another "I fucked your baby's moms" then Nas is the victor in this war of words.

In all fairness Big lines dont make or break any jay verse. Plus he just started sayin Big's lines.

What do yall mean when yall say he is a better lyricist. Post some lyrics and explain. Cause as i see it, Nas did the minimum when it comes to rhyming on Ether. So how can u bring lyircs up when he did do the main rule. And he didnt pull a sparks where the flow carries the weight of the rhyme.

>that "spark" because everybody wanted

I considered Jigga as the underdog to the general hip-hopper until JayZ started looking like the bully of the fued with repeated disses.

JayZ: overselling, underachieving, overly discussed and hated. BIG minion. One beloved album that in no way excuses the other five 'lesser' and more popular works.

Nas: The 'humble' (yeah, right) poet of our time who the ills of the industry has ruined (none of this has to do with his weaker moments or failed attempts at stardom, of course). One album so beloved that the general dislike for the other three are downplayed or outright ignored.

See?

(honestly though what
>rapper makes the same album
>more than once besides Jay-Z
>who made Vol 1, 2,
>and 3 about exactly the
>same)

If anything...I'd say that RD and Vol 1 were similar in subjects while Vol 2 and 3 were similar.

And some would say that I Am was a weak combo of Illmatic and Written with Nastradamus being a glorified B-side of that.

but I think overall
>lyrically I'd have to say
>Nas is stronger.

After repeated listens to all ten released albums, I'll be lame and say that they are equal for different reasons.

IMO, Jay is better at getting his point across by way of bluntness and temporary shows of vulnerability (usually followed by excessive moments of bragging as a byproduct). He loses lyrical 'thickness' sometimes (like Tupac), but it works most of the time. And his intentions are more clear to anyone who listens without a cynical ear.

Nas is most likely the thicker writer (IMO, thicker is not always better). More rhymes. Bigger vocab. Weaker 'delivery' that lacks the 'flair' (whooooo!).

Contrary to popular belief, I DON'T see Nas now as a top five writer even in terms of thickness.

Nas dances around subjects without getting to the real 'meat' of the subjects sometimes (kinda like Ether). And Nas just sounds uncomfortable when forced to rap about some issues in details when it isn't 'his' stories. Still, he has flashes of brilliance that keep him in the breath with other 'greats'.

If you
>just take Ether which to
>me addresses all of Jigga's
>weaknesses, namely his HUGE ego
>and his dickriding Biggie's verses,
>and then take Supa Ugly
>which is just another "I
>fucked your baby's moms" then
>Nas is the victor in
>this war of words.

I'm with you on this. If Nas stays true and leaves it alone, he will appear to be the better man by virtue of addressing the subject briefly and leaving alone (even though I think Nas has this issue on his mind more than he says).

Jay may actually have a 'real' obsession with besting Nas. This is healthy in moderation. Scary and depleting in mass.

Still, Nas has yet to really attack JayZ's material in the same manner as JayZ rained on him about his 4 albums. In interview form (minus PR and tough talk), I would like to know what Nas really thinks of JayZ's 6 albums. Same with JayZ.

the battle was never even close to begin with. "takeover" is already a hiphop classic and "ether" is an emminently forgetable response. "ether" has lame production, a horrid hook and relatively joyless and boring lyrics. disses aren't won by technically disecting the wordplay -- they're judged by who rocked the crowd. and this isn't even close (i've yet to see *anyone* who isn't a nas supporter or jay hater say they remotely even enjoy listening to "ether"). i'm not sure why jay even made "super ugly"...maybe he just wanted the last word or something, but it was totally unnecessary.

who DO you know?
don't like ether....ok
don't like nas that much...ok
but don't try to come on here acting you have taken an objective look at the two tracks and decided that the Takeover is that superior to Ether. That is some bullshit...at best they are even. But aint no way Jay handled three verses of ether with that one verse on takeover...that shit is the worst math.

Battles escalate until they are over. Jay was first wwith the subliminal at summerjam....Stillmatic hit back next--harder...then Jay fucked Nas up on Takeover...then Ether shitted on Jay-z and Rocafella as a recordlabel and a muthafuckin crew....then SuperUgly dropped......and.....welll.....um...

Kinda like LL's respond to What's Clef gotta do with it.
Ether wins...Nas wins...and you don't have to like that or the song.

"takeover" is vastly superior to "ether", slick. it's not even close. the beat is much better, the hook, though simple, is catchier, the lyrics are far more memorable (check the unplugged crowd with the verbatim singalong) and jay's lyrics echoed the public perception of nas while nas's disses were emptier claims. does nas take more shots at jay in his three verses? of course, but when it's all said and done, "takeover" is the much more effective dis record.

A huge JayZ head called me at 11:30 (late for office cats) saying "P, listen to this"...

It was Ether. It was too late for me to tell him that I have read and heard the song several times. I sat listening to Ether through the phone...

He gets back on the phone and says "Dog, that was a sick diss".

All this is coming from a cat who had to pawn his CDs. He kept Jay-Z's CDs and a couple of Nas's. Scary, ain't it?

like when jay rhymes over nas beat.

although, it will be pretty funny if jay continues saying "I WILL NOT LOSE" after losing straight up and down on live radio.

and to the disillusioned people still in this thread debating- jay lost.
let it go.

Naw dog, he bit.

I will not lose is a sayin used by jay. Similar to how niggas are biting kiss by saying 'I'm just happy to be here' or how kiss bit mase 'I do what i do like i do it for tv'.

If he did it to mock him, then thats funny but he used it as the background to his hook (i like that part of the hook, makes the hook to me). But he still bit.

Just sayin. Not sayin he lost because of it, just sayin the bul bit. And thats a rule u dont break unless u making fun or addressing it directly.

it's obvious that I will not lose is a jay-z catchphrase.

I'm not a jay fan dog. I'm just sayin he bit. For no reason. And it's not like killing someonelse's beat. All he said was jays line, didnt add anything to it, didnt ke anything from it.

I just wanted to know how a nas fan reacts to something like that. And i see that nas can just repeat what jay said and u automatically take it as a flip and a dis towards jay when he added not a damn thing to it.

Personally i like to see jay get the heat turn on him just so i can give everybody i know who said jay is better than big hell. I never was a fan of nas, so i'm just sitting back and watching. I see the rest of u bring up points that dont make sense, such as 'it's 4 songs to 2' or whatever number yall want to throw in for jay or nas. When all i listen for is to see if it's hot or not. It would be cool if yall went into detail but no one is doing it. Everything in each one of these post are just shallow points brought up by one or two people and ran with by the rest of yall. All i want to see is how u guys come to a realization as to who won. But yall anit sayin shit.

For example. If u believe nas is more lyrical with the disses then tell me what lines are so lyrical in 'ether' and dont cop out and say i wont understand or refuse to acknowledge it because i never liked him. Just give details instead of just stating something. Where in ether does he prove he is more lyrical???????

because it's within the context of a battle.
do you realize you're the only one not understanding this?

>of u bring up points
>that dont make sense, such
>as 'it's 4 songs to

i never ran off with the numbers, but i will say that jay played himself looking for that radio shine, and released two rushed tracks that are mediocre at best.

>of yall. All i want
>to see is how u
>guys come to a realization
>as to who won. But
>yall anit sayin shit.

aight i dont have time/patience/desire to get all into it, but here's my (brief take)-

if want nas says in felon mag is true, jay pulls a snake move at summer jam and baits nas.
nas responds wit stillmatic.
stillmatic gets pulled of the air. -> advantage nas
jay releases takeover. -> adv. jay
ether -> adv nas.

actually, i would've called it even at this point, but then-

2 rushed, corny attempts by jiggaman back to back, streets of ny callin him out on live radio-> hova's ova

>
>
>Just give details instead of
>just stating something. Where in
>ether does he prove he
>is more lyrical???????
>
again, i'll have to be brief.
they pull each other's card on their respective pasts, so lets say that cancels out

takeover - more initial impact (i.e. on first listen), catchier beat, jay z is jokin around, "LAAAAAAAMMEE" , calls nas on his fall from grace
ether - nas aint tellin jokes here, called out much bullshit, silly ass dame diddy, jay channelling big's ghost for a new line in every song, jay running with whoever's hot.

here by more lyrical, i assume people mean ether doesnt have the initial *shock* value takeover had, and you have to listen maybe more than once to get all the things nas says. people who say the song was a bunch of gay insults didnt really listen.

damn kid, you're a moron. he is mocking Jay...and we all are mocking you.

When you repeat anyones line intentionally- it is either a dis or a tribute....so either nas using the line was a coincidence (right) or...you get to pick between "dis" and "tribute"....go ahead and pick one genius.

Remember that this is a b-a-t-t-l-e.

OF COURSE, it's a dis.
"I will not lose" is Jay's saying.
In a song dissing Jay-Z, Nas uses Jay-Z's saying in the background. duh. it's sarcasm. Pick up your Webster's and look up sarcasm.

"Ether" is relentless.
Don't try to front.
In the "Takeover", Jay rhymed "five" with "Nas". Jay's been getting sloppy with his shit since "Roc La Familia..." He talked about Nas's albums being inconsistent and dissed his crew, the Bravehearts.
HELLO!
THIS from the same man who signed Memphis Bleek, Beenie Sigel, Amil, Rell, AND Christion. The same man who put out tender-ass songs like "Sunshine", "I Know What Girls Like", "Can I Get A..", "Heart of The City", the list goes on. The same man who rhymed like a Fu-Schnicken until "Illmatic" came out. This guy has some nerve.
And YES he quotes Big WAY too fuckin' much. Snoop too. C'mon, dog, on "Izzo" AND "Jigga That Nigga". Damn.
Nas came out on "Ether" with guns blazing.
He called Dame Dash "Dame Diddy, Dame Daddy, Dame Dummy".
He dissed the label being named after a famous gay man.
He dissed Jay's Down Syndrome big lips (I used to wonder if he was slightly retarded around the time of "Hard Knock"..)
He alluded to "Hawaiian Sophie", said we was wearing Jaz's jewelry.
Called him his child.
Mentioned Jay's lame and unconvincing misogynistic tendencies.
Called him Stan.
Called him a Tae-Bo ho.
Called the nigga ugly.
DAMN!

What else do ya'll want? Nas did his thing. And he won the battle on his enemy's turf (Hot 97). Stop fronting. He came back hard with a phenomenally constructed dis song. Give the man his due. AND Jay's obsessed. He clearly made "Super Ugly" around the same time as "Takeover", rushed together a decent, at best, Unplugged with the Roots just to release it the same day as "Stillmatic". Slept with Nas's baby mom, whom Nas hasn't been with sexually for a while ..... Funny thing, too, I didn't know Nas had a chipped tooth until Jay mentioned it. Dissing someone's lips is one thing, but being all up in another man's mouth? What'd Ghost say? "Ewww, he got the urge!"

Think about this. Jay had to sample David Bowie AND the Doors to get his point across. Nas did it all by his lonesome. Give it up, Nas is back.

peace.

No you herb.... he rhymed 5 with divide... if you know anything about Jay's rhyme structure... you'd know he often throws a random half-bar in for emphasis that dont rhyme with nothin.

You didnt know Nas had a chipped tooth... IF YOU EVER EVEN HEARD ILLMATIC ONCE!!! YOUD KNOW... son said "chipped-tooth" a couple times on it. Man get outta here... you a new hair on Nas' dick. Study up

>Dissing

"I will not lose" is a lyric from a Jay-Z song and "I got myself a gun" is a lyric from a Nas song, if anything they both bit each other, but if you thought about it for a 2nd you would see that they are using each other's lines to come back at them, I cant school the youngstas all day.

to argue, atleast be smart enough to know what song Jay said that on and it was "Change the Game." And tell me you are not this dense because it is getting a little sad. Notice how no one else besides you thinks it was a bite. Listen to "Super Ugly", Jay says "I got myself a gun".....a line from Nas's song. And Nas uses Jay's line "I will not lose" to show that he is not losing the battle. Just accept it, if you are going to argue between the two cuts then atleast use something that makes sense. And you LOL and thinking you are proving me wrong it is just making you look dumber because you will not find anyone to agree with you.

I just don't see the big deal with Ether. It's an average diss track at best. And this is from a guy who was hoping Nas would really bring it to Jay. Takeover is by far the superior product. The beat is crazy, the lyrics are precise and effective, and Jay's flow is so fluid. It's a great song all the way around. Ether has none of those qualities, to me. Shit, I think H to the OMO(stillmatic) was actually the better Nas record, but opinons are like ...

I will admit that I AM a rider, but I can't front on Stillmatic, he did his thing on a lot of tracks. Plus, I think Nas is coming off much more mature about this whole thing. But hey, who needs maturity? This is war.

That being said, I do think you're right. If Jay has shown us anything in all of this, its that he's a chessmaster. The SummerJam to "Takeover" move proved that. I love Nas' work, but this ain't a poetry contest anymore.

I get the feeling that Jay is baiting him, just waiting for Nas to slip up and say somethin he shouldn't, like talk about his nephews or something.

After hearing how he got in Ma$e, I can't believe that Jay has shown his best yet, vis a vis Nas.

I also believe that, like Nas says, Jay is quite obsessed with him. Thus he will have an obsessive amount of ways to attack him. If he really spends as much time sweating Nas as it appears he does, then we have NOT seen the worst of this from Jigga.

>I get the feeling that Jay is baiting him
Niggas been saying that since Summer Jam. He made his move, baited Nas, Nas dropped Stillmatic and proved he "wanted it with Hov." Jay made a power mover with Takeover. Jay's trump card was him boning Nas' baby moms but Nas stole the thunder and cleared all that up over a month ago. Nas dropped Ether. Jay retaliated but failed since Nas took all the steam out of Jay bringing up Carmen. Then he lost the vote. Checkmate, Nas won.

And like I said before you go song for song. He dropped Don't U Know, People are talking, and Super Ugly that all had Nas disses. A fourth song would be pathetic. He's over 30 and he's not handling this beef very well. I think his plan blew up in his face.

anywon who could say "checkmate, nas won" is certifiably deranged. nas is *clearly* the loser of this exchange -- but the hype will certainly help him sell a few more records. jay may look immature and overeager, but he's the obvious victor here.

(1 out of 10, sadly, prefer listening to Britney Spears instead)

"I draw a sharp distinction between magic and religion. I see them almost as the spiritual parallels of say, fascism and anarchy in the political arena. To me, politics does not divide into right-wing and left-wing, in that capitalism and communism are both just two different ways of ordering industrial societies, which have not been around for a vast amount of time and probably won't be around for a lot longer. To me, the two poles of politics are fascism, which... from the original Roman concept, the symbol for it was a bundle of bound twigs. The idea being, "In unity there is strength." Religion is almost the political equivalent of that. I mean, religion, strictly speaking, doesn't even have to be about anything spiritual. The Conservative Party is a religion in that they are bound together by belief. Almost any organization has its religious aspects. With magic, I worship a second-century Roman snake god who, on the best evidence that I can dredge up from that period, was some kind of elaborate glove-puppet that was being controlled by a second-century snake-oil salesman, basically a complete fraud, huckster, and showman. I don't want anybody else to start worshipping this god. I find something a bit unnatural in the idea of being bound together in spiritual ideas with people. I'm sure that, in our natural state, we all believe something entirely different. I don't necessarily want anybody to believe the same things I believe, which is one of the reasons why I've adopted such a patently mad sort of deity." - Alan Moore, comics writer and interesting fellow

Changing the name "Nas" for "Jay-z" in the above post can equally reflect the exact sentiment a lot of people have about Nas.

After listening to these.... i actually understand what Super Ugly is... yeah Jay could have spit all that nonsense... but he decided to make a song that made two points...

First verse was about how half of what Nas is sayin is speculation and inuendo (sp?) and that aint his style.

Second verse he talked about some more "true" experiences he's had with Nas like the whole "runnin out the source" incident...

Then the third was like... since Nas wanna get dirty... i can get dirty too. Then he talks about carmen and that whole situation.

Not sayin its better than ether... but its not as usless as i thought it was when i first heard it. Like he said it was a "letter" or statement to Nas. Wasnt supposed to go into major distribution like Ether. The real battle is between Ether and Takeover. Those are the tracks that will be widely availiable to the Pubic forever.
