each time I save something to my harddrive, the floppy drive makes this weird buzzing sound as if its searching for a floppy disk. it usually takes a couple seconds for the floppy drive to do its thing, after which the computer proceeds to save the file to the hard drive.
anyone know whats goin on here?

the floppy drive just makes sounds whenever I go to save something onto my hard drive...doesent matter if I'm downloading a file from the net, or saving a word document to my hard drive. I'll press save, and the floppy drive will just light up, and start making a noise as if its expecting me to save the file to a floppy disk. it does this for a few seconds, my comp freezes, and then the computer proceeds to save the file to the destination that I specified.
its been going on for a while, and I first began to notice it a couple months back, when I was using floopy's for school. i'd be working in word, save a file to disk. take out the disk, but with the file and word still open. then when i would go to shut down word, and close the file that i had just saved to the disk, it would make the same noise, and wouldnt stop, or allow word to close until i put the floppy back in.

here's what happened (or what seems to have happened, according to what you just typed out): you saved the file to the disk, then ejected the disk before closing the program. how is the hard drive supposed to access the file if you left word open? next time, save to flpooy disk, CLOSE the program, and you're done.
as for it seeking the flpopy, it's trying to save to where it saved last (it does this unless you have a default directory to save to specified), so here's what i'd try: save something to the flppppy disk and close the program. save something to the hard drive. eject flooy disk. next time it should try to save to the hard drive.
if this doesn't work, you could always buy a new flopoy drive. they're cheap. ____________________________________________________________
Is it possible you have a shortcut somewhere that points to the floppy drive? Every time the save dialog comes up it tries to read that shortcut. Maybe on your dekstop or something? =========================================== -Me

I had no idea that this post was still alive. in fact I forgot that I had even made this joint. didnt know that typo created this much of a stir. I'm over here laughing at it myself now...and to log on this morning and find it on page 3...maaaaannnnn...lol.
by the way, the problem fixed itself like a year ago. lol.
