"Plasma TV burn in"

Anyone ever get this on a plasma?

My new plasma has images burned in. It still plays well, but when there's an all-white background on the screen, you can see stuff burned in. Fukk!

Any way I can fix this?

which is why I won't cop a plasma until I'm filthy-ass rich and can afford to replace it with no problems. lol.

I believe you're stuck with that burn-in by the way. I'd recommend to anyone buying an HDTV these days to really go LCD. They're dirt cheap now and are less likely to get burn-in. Especially if you're going to do a lot of gaming.

But LCD doesn't.

At least I've never heard of any LCD burn-in. Everywhere I've read, they've said that LCDs don't do that but Plasma does.

Burn in is still an issue.

I'm seeing the Madden logo everytime my TV goes to a white background.

There are things you can do.

They say that you can pause your TV on an all-white background and try and let that burn in to offset the damage.

Also there are controls on my TV that cools the heat of the plasma down. I just wish I had known that beforehand.

My TV is still functional. And HD still looks great, but white backgrounds are a joke. And stuff still burns in, just not permanently.

They said that it should wear off in 24 hours of viewing. The burn in started Christmas Eve. I guess I should be right around 24 hours of viewing pretty soon.

I'll get back to you.

what kind of tv is it?

burn in should not be an issue for newer plasmas that have pixel shifting, orbiting and even white-washing as a last resort--assuming static images aren't left on the screen for extended periods of time. don't pause movies on it and don't play video games that have maps and the like in the corners at all times.

I did a lot of homework before I got it. got great reviews everywhere I looked. And now this happens.

I worked at Best Buy and always recommended LCDs to heavy video game players. That being said, the white-wash should work for you.

what you most likely have is "image retention" rather than burn in. you can clear this up relatively easily. more on that later.

now, while i won't deny that burn in still exists, plasmas are much better at resisting burn-in nowadays. but you should still take care of your screen.

first off, turn off that godforsaken "vivid" mode that the tv is set on fresh from the factory. then break in your tv - turn down contrast and brightness quite a bit, and watch it that way for AT LEAST 100 hours, on fullscreen mode (no black bars on the sides). you're more likely to get burn in/image retention early on in the tv's life since the phosphors are so new. you want to "age" the phosphors evenly at first, so when you get back to regular viewing the image retention isn't as noticeable.

you can get through the 100 break-in hours pretty quickly by burning and running a "break-in dvd" found here:

http://www.eaprogramming.com/downloads/downloads.htm

it's basically a full screen of colors that switch over time. i popped this in my dvd player and let it run overnight. you can also use this to get rid of the image retention that you currently see.

after that break-in period, bump the contrast and brightness to your liking (use AVIA or DVD Essentials to get correct color/brightness/contrast etc.) and watch whatever you want, however you want without fear.

btw - i'm posting this from my plasma right now, and the white okayplayer screens doesn't cause burn-in on my screen even after an hour of surfing. hope that puts you at ease.

for some recommended reading, visit this forum:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=608677

you can probably find a thread specific to your model of tv.

enjoy your plasma!

and i'd recommend the avia one over the digital video essentials DVD.

Like Rex said, you run into a high risk of image retention during the first hundred hours of use and it gradually goes down from there.

Like the White Paper report said, they played a DVD on a loop for 24 hours and wiped out almost, if not all of the "burned in" game menu.

I didn't know that there was a risk of image retention in the first 100 hours.

And I played a couple times before the image started to burn in. I'm itching to play Madden right now. I'll play a game or two and see how it goes.
