i'm in the market for a laptop. my boy, who's a techie, is insistent that i get a sony vaio, and as far as i can tell, they are indeed top-of-the-line.

but can someone break down for me the pros & cons of sony vs. dell vs. toshiba? much appreciated.

Dell: Overall decent value for the cost..there are cheaper brands out there though...

Sony: You are paying a premium for the name. Decent, but not worth an extra $400 for name alone....

Toshiba: From what i've seen, these are a good buy. You can get the same features of a Sony vaio for less if you get the Toshiba....

Check out some off brands too like Averatec
