Folks will swear by Madden no matter what broken gameplay elements exist and no matter how successful lame/cheap players can be on such a proudly touted 'sim-centered' game. (watch the $50,000 tourney every year for proof of backfoot BS and the like).
>To think, it was 2004 and they were still incapable of making >a game where the players could move laterally.
You could, just not as smoothly or quickly as some would like. But hey...Madden certainly lacks smooth when it comes to DB makeup speed and skipped frames of animation galore when it comes to pass coverage.
Oh yeah...and the EA icecapade effect is still pretty much hiding out. Once again, see the Madden tourneys every year for sliding, stopping on dimes in odd situations, and just plain broken physics on a strictly 'sim-centered' game.
>Yet the cult following it has.
Alternative, alternative. Cats wanted an alternative.
>Are there really that many of you who suck that bad at Madden >and rebel against it so vigorously?
*poking out chest* I'm the shit on Madden 06. That cone shit don't scare me, dog! I got the audible system down pat (legit, not formation change BS), man! I brings the poetry in motion without flubadub three-trick offenses and lineman sliding defense, too. I keeps it real, son! (c) Dave
Truth is (about converting from Madden years ago before going back this year)...
When you're bombarded with no less than three gamebreaking 'glitches' about every year on Madden (punt block anyone?, what about wide lineman sliding on a game that doesn't believe in mobility for non-Vick QBs), you eventually have to think about trying something else.
Or at least I did...2k came along with the Dreamcast, and folks (like me) went for it.
2k easily had its fair share of issues, but damn..when 2k came along...you could actually run the ball because of a few key animations and because the blocking schemes actually worked sometimes. You could scramble (semi)realistically with your QB (if you were honest). QBs moved like QBs, and you didn't have to play with a brother to have some decent mobility. As a ball carrier, you could BREAK TACKLES...ON PURPOSE (!) without having to play with a top 5 back. This 'always online' stuff that is standard on XBox 360 was standard on all 2k5s a year and a half ago.
and hell...
The game looked amazing and was presented brilliantly while Madden was and still does seem to be delivered and presented half-assed (in terms of bells and whistles) like married folk oral sex (interpolation of standup by Chris Rock).
Ain't nothing wrong with looking for an alternative. And hell...Madden was getting damn close to getting caught with his video game pants down (fuck sales, some cats were crossing over). That wasn't an accident. 2k had the goods in a lot of ways. The underdog cats at VC worked hard to catch up to the lazy champs at EA and the love was and still is deserved even if they failed to top the mighty Madden franchise.
