"oh shit. make your own ringtones. anyone up on this?"

i could be late on this, or there could be other ways of doing this, but check out this program. xingtone. you can edit any mp3 you have to be your ringtone. they have a free trial where you can make 1, then its $20 to buy the program and make unlimited. i may buy it with my upcoming xmas cash. this shit is awesome.

unless someone knows of a free program or way of doing this?

I use audacity.

Open whatever song you want, then get a 20 - 30 second clip (using the whole song is wack since the phone won't ring for too long, plus having an entire song takes up a ton of space). After that, export it as a 96 - 112kbps mp3 file and send it to your phone.

I'd suggest buying a usb bluetooth adapter to transfer the songs (you can resize pictures to make your own backgrounds too), but you could probably send the songs to your phone if you don't mind spending money.

find the best 30 seconds, loop it, and export it.

I just open up the info on the song i want to use change the start time and end time so that the clip is 30 sec or so. then i convert the file to 32 kbps mono mp3 file to keep the file size small(speakerphones are crappy so you don't need a high bit rate). my fone got bluetooth so i transfer it that way. then i go back to my song info and change the start and ending time back to the original setting.

I made a couple in a MIDI sequencer, tested them for compatibility, and have them on my phone even now.

Why pay $2.50 when you can make your own. I should pay myself and use it as a tax write off as a college expense. I was thinking about hustling ringtones.

Here's my list of ringtones:

Kayne - Celebration
DJ Z-Trip - Walking Dead
Jay-z - Ignorant Shit
DJ Quik - Get Down (Chingy's first adlib prelude to str8 fiyah)
Fort Minor - Remember the name
Fort Minor - Believe Me
Heard Em say
Joe Budden - So long goodbye
Slim Thug - Ain't heard of that remix
Bun B - Get Throwed
Kanye - Brand new
We can make it better
Yellowcard - Gifts and Curses
Youngbloodz - Presidential Shit
