and MLB The Show has a radio feature summarizing the week that's actually kind of cool and dynamic too, but I don't really play the franchise mode 'cause I'm so stuck on Diamond Dynasty.
I'd really love to see a franchise mode nail this kind of thing, though. 2K doesn't get enough out of the studio segments they do and even with the dynamic announcers they just don't have enough content in the pipeline to avoid repetition yet.
but yea, that Bruno radio show I was obsessed with and I really enjoyed the Spots Illustrated stuff in the PS2 NCAA games too. but the way these games have all moved towards the fantasy teams / create-a-player modes for the microtransactions and YouTuber money I'm not necessarily surprised EA did this or that it's only for the career mode, but it does seem like a total waste of time and money for a game we're not even sure plays well.
they got the WNBA for this game too. classic "jack of all trades, master of none" EA Sports in the HD era.

Like all 2k did back in the day was take what NBA live was doing and refine the shit out of it for Dreamcast and eventually the other consoles; the competition was good.
But for the past ten years tho? What the fuck happened. Talk about a series that lost it's way, not to say making a multimillion dollar game is difficult but overall the gameplay hasn't changed THAT much in the decades since we entered into the 3D era for this train to be this fucked up

If I recall correctly, between Elite and Live 15, the team basically trashed all their old code and tried to rewrite a basketball sim from the ground up in a single year and change and it turned everything into a huge dumpster fire. For all the complaints about major sports sims not having changed all that much over the past decade of HD 3D gaming, there's definitely a reason for that and NBA Live is the prime example.

That $20 game was a genius move. How could you NOT try it at that price?
The key was NFL 2K5 was (arguably) better than Madden when it came out. If EA were to do a price drop like this with Live, the game HAS to be playable. Anything less than that and you've destroyed your series*.
*Granted, we've said "Live is done" for almost 10 years now.

>Live's problem now is that it doesn't know what to do better >than 2K and doesn't have time to build it.
i mean i kind of understand (likely shareholders/corporate influence saying, "MAKE THE GAME NOW") but it seems like they could have (did?) taken 3-4 years off to build a new game from the ground up and washed 2k while 2k is getting lazy and stagnant. or gone in a different direction as hardware suggests
maybe there's just a huge talent gap there or ea isn't ponying up the resources. or both. whatever the issue is the result is a shitty situation for customers

that was the beginning of the end, he came in and pushed the analytics-based stats and changing the control scheme and some people were really on the Live is back train, but then he left EA like a week after release date and went back to 2K and the Live team never really recovered from that it seemed like, sorta like they got to live with the cool dad on the block for a year but then he went back to his biological kids

its not bad, seems improved over NBA Live 16 anyways, hasn't froze on me yet when I have to take free throws. They have it for 35 the month of August so considering buying, haven't played 2K18 to compare tho..

it looked....ok.
but the player movement is just atrocious. it still feels like a hockey game...absolutely no feeling of weight or momentum.
i do get super frustrated with the moments in 2K where it feels like you've lost control of your player, waiting for an animation to finish or recovering from a delayed action, but they're light years ahead of Live in the basic feel of the gameplay.

And it made me realize that as unrealistic and even annoying as Live was...I just enjoyed playing it more. It was surely fake as hell, almost every year, but it was fun as hell. Almost like Tecmo was.
2K is so realistic that it doesn't always feel enjoyable...so I'm always gonna root for a Live comeback.
