So this ain't for you which is fine.

However while I admit the controls for these titles could be a bit better the experience in which they present is top notch. Not everything is going to be Dark Souls.

But way to be passive aggressive about it.

No other studio does mobility and verticality in third person shooters the way ND does. Period.

I STILL play UC4 multiplayer several days a week. At this point, I'm returning to it more than Overwatch (which I play only a few times a month now). Because that shit is crack.

I understand people not liking their games. Different strokes for different folks. But the idea that all Naughty Dog cares about is story and graphics, and gameplay is just an afterthought is tired and false.

or everybody's gone to the rapture-style "walking simulators"

because their presentation is indeed unparalleled. the cost seems to be gameplay/player agency. ND games appear to split the difference between film and game and both parts suffer as a result. the writing and acting is a touch below good tv/film writing and acting (still better than most VG writing) and the gameplay is kind of outdated and clunky. that's not a good video game experience to me but i can see why others like it

fwiw there is a part of me that wants to work my way through the games so i can see all the lovingly rendered environments and art assets but even thinking about it makes me bored. i can't even make it through lets plays of those games

so you could get that one trinket. it's a very important trinket

to be fair that kind of narrative dissonance is in a lot of games, especially recently (GTA, sleeping dogs, etc.). and i really like narrative dissonance in those games. i think it's very amusing

however i think that kind of dissonance is particularly egregious in ND games because they place so much emphasis on humanizing characters with believable dialogue, voice acting, and animation. that makes the murdering sprees the protagonists go on seem that much weirder

Until I play this game, I'm not watching anything aside from this trailer if I can help it.

The first game is the closest simulation to experiencing an actual zombie-apocalypse I'll ever want to have... and I mean that in the best way possible.

I'm legit concerned where the storyline is going to go ; I would have been content with no sequel, but I cannot help but be geeked out at revisiting this world.

It was enjoyable to me. Was it perfect? No, but hardly anything is perfect. Still enjoyed it better than some of the fuck shit these folks recommend.

But what better way to shit in someones cereal than to knock something that other people enjoy because you don't like it?

but I get it. there are people out there that JUST WANNA PLAY THE GAME, especially older (and some younger) crowds that grew up on games where the closest thing to a narrative was "Are you a bad enough dude to save the President?" or "go plug this box into this box and find out if that other box turns these two boxes into a calculator" IF THAT. The idea of Uncharted is an afront to their sensibilities and I think that's understandable.

i have no doubt my aversion to narrative-heavy games is rooted in my atari and nes upbringing. i'm perfectly happy with interesting mechanics, snappy controls, and strong presentation. unskippable cut scenes are the worst. generally speaking, video game writing is heavy handed and hampered by the medium. i'd prefer to get my narrative kicks elsewhere. it's worth noting that some games do narrative well like the soulsborne series (implicit narrative) and that weird phenomenon of that one side quest being way better than the main story arc (bethesda games, mass effect, etc.)

reducing PURE VIDEO GAME ASS GAMES to just NON-STOP ACTION is hella arbitrary considering some of the earliest video games were narrative focused text adventures.

iirc most of those were relegated to PC. maniac mansion was on NES. can't think of another one. ultima? oregon trail? i don't remember encountering text-based PC games until i played zork and the ad&d games at a friend's house in the early 90s

i do strongly recall narrative-light, action-heavy, and mechanically deep games like river city ransom, crystalis, and clash at demonhead. probably just selective memory. i'm sure i played through many a shallow game as a wee lad. and i think dragon quest and final fantasy had significant streches of the game that only served the narrative

>but who am i to deny people whatever boxes they need to

i guess? i love how derailed this post has become. y'all seem sensitive about me and rj not liking these games (or derailing the post?) who cares? like what you like. i would love to be able to experience games like this in the way that y'all do but all i can see is the seams. the same goes for tv and movies. all i can think about is the location of the cameras and the sides that are hidden on an actor's person or taped under a chair

But when yall come in here with some "THESE GAMES FUCKING SUCK JHAOUFDADFAODHFASLDFASD!!!!!"

And some ol passive aggressive bullshit then yes, you become like a youtube comment section. That's what derails a post.

We understand that not everyone is going to like everything about certain games, that's fine. When I don't like something and give my reasons I try not to shit on someone else for enjoying something I don't "get". Not going to try to force anyone to not like it because I don't.

And c'mon with that what you grew up on stuff. Some of us are older, and I know myself grew up in the atari era. I avoided ghost and ate fuckin dots to get to the next level. The first bit of story I can even remember is "sorry the princess is in another castle". Doesn't mean I can't enjoy a game with a heavy narrative. And can we please stop with this whole bullshit "its the zombie apocalypse why are we killing survivors?" Because these same survivors are going to kill you to steal what little supplies you have because we live in a lawless world now. Does no one remember the original "Night of the Living Dead" series? Everything I can remember dealing with zombies the humans are far shittier to each other and probably more of a threat. But whatever.

That sounds like some personal stuff you got going on that may stop you from enjoying some things if you're looking THAT deep into a source of entertainment. It's honestly not that serious and I'm glad I don't have that kinda outlook. It's just TV and games. If I wanted truly real and authentic I'd watch a documentary.

don't call it the most realistic simulator, when it's not.

don't call it a good game when it lacks all of the things good games have.

that's all.

you can enjoy something without pretending it's the end all be all of entertainment.

I even had gripes about some of the movement and the fact that the AI gets in the way of everything. I even said it wasn't perfect, just enjoyed the story for what it was. In the post for the original game I believe I may have even said its not a 10. I'd give it around an 8 to be honest.

It's not a bad game though. If anyone thinks this is the worse they've played I really want to see your list of the one other game in life you've played that was perfect. Shit was pretty good for what they presented to us.

i think you're conflating sarcasm with passive aggressiveness. wouldn't passive aggressiveness be something like, "yeah i guess you could like that game..." with no stated point? avoiding addressing the issue?

>We understand that not everyone is going to like everything

who said that paps or anyone else has bad taste because they like these games? all i see is severe criticism of elements of ND products

>That sounds like some personal stuff you got going on that may

>into a source of entertainment. It's honestly not that
>serious and I'm glad I don't have that kinda outlook. It's

it's super personal stuff

idk what to tell you, man. sometimes i'm bewildered when someone else can't see something that is patently obvious to me. and i think it is that serious. there is a lot of hard work that goes into making tv and games. thousands of man-hours to produce a 30 minute to 6 hour experience for the audience. i'm blown away that ND spends so many of those hours on the non-gameplay elements of their games. it's like a tv show spending half their budget on set design instead of hiring writers. why spend so much time coming up with 10 different "reload behind cover" animations when the game's controls are loose and unresponsive? isn't this a video game and not an animation software suite demo?

but that's just how i feel. don't take my criticism of a game you like as an attack on your sensibilities. idk if i'm somehow implying it (not intending to) or you're inferring it but i'm only talking about the game itself and not the people who like it

first one was as perfect as it could be as far as story is concerned. While it's going to be cool to supposedly play as 'adult' Elle, id rather have had them leave that story line to bed since it had a pretty perfect and self-enclosed ending. Not like you had any real questions about the characters/plotlines by the end...and I love how it ended on such a fucked up note.

That said, it was a masterpiece of a survival horror game and story and if its the same mofos involved behind the scenes they can happily take my my money, lol.

but like, the ending to The Godfather was perfect, and that got a pretty amazing sequel.

and Left Behind was just as great as the main game.

i trust Druckmann to do right by the story, even if the song Ellie was singing in the trailer was too on the nose. haha
