"Anyone get a VIRUS lately?"

The HTPC in my backroom installed some anit-virus program on itself AND sometimes random "live sounding" noises were being played.

I check my MBR (no virus there) and restored to an image I made in June.

But I have no idea how I got the virus (no pir8 software AT ALL on the machine, all the latest updates applied, running MSE.)

Anyone else get a virus lately?

it was the frst time in years

MSE is woefully lacking compared to other antivirus progams. I have seen computers with only MSE infected multiple times. Each time another antivirus found and repaired the problem with ease.

It's weird that it would be on your htpc unless somebody has been using it for some sort of fuckery or it got hacked

A few months ago I had a similar issue where random sounds would play through the speaker for no apparent reason. Nothing popped up with Avast, Malewarebytes, Superantyspyware or Spybot S&D. Turns out, IE had been hijacked and opened a webpage that did some streaming...something. Can't remember what it was, but it took a day or two to get that squared away.

Sounds similar to what I was experiencing.

I have several system restore images ready to go when it happens - it's too difficult to know how to fix it - its easier to start over.
