My Sony Bravia screen looks like the Predator's heat vision. I've only had this joint for 7 years but I guess it's time to move on. I do play video games and because of that my boys are telling me to get a plasma. I currently have a 40" so I'm looking for. 50" joint.
Think I'm leaving the Sony camp and going to Samsung. What say you?

so that's a start. 4k is actually pointless right now because they aren't making too much media that goes along with the resolution. I have nice lil 50" vizio smart tv and it works great for me, ps4 looks good on it too, amazon, vudu, iheart, and few other apps come preinstalled.
4. "plasmas are great for gaming" In response to Reply # 0 Sun Aug-09-15 01:56 AM by bearfield
the motion is super smooth, the response lag is minimal, and there is almost zero ghosting. i can't imagine any tv displaying gaming content as well as my panasonic plasma does
but they have some issues. image retention can be a problem because of how most games have static HUD elements that are often very bright. marathon gaming sessions can leave your tv with images on your screen that are usually temporary but can be permanent if the tv is still in the early stages of the break-in process
if you're serious about having a good tv for gaming check out http://www.displaylag.com/. they can point you in the right direction of a good gaming display. if you've been playing on high input lag LCD/LED for the past x years, playing on a low input lag display will change your life. i was playing on a DLP display with insanely high input lag for most of the 2000s (including all those halo2 and soul calibur matches against OKPs *cough*) and when i finally got my plasma i couldn't believe how much better gaming felt

My father was able to cop one of the Pioneer plasmas before they got out the game. It wasn't a Kuro, but the picture quality on that thing is unbelievable.

I'd rather not have one. My PS3 is fine and if I ever decide to upgrade that system will take care of my media needs. I would never use those smart apps.
10. "Most TV's now ARE Smart TV's." In response to Reply # 7
I mean, you don't have to use the apps, but I don't know if you'll find one of quality that doesn't come with those features standard. I personally prefer using the app built in to the TV because it makes less noise than my 360. Plus, it's one less step.
While the apps work decently it depends on what processor the TV has to run those apps. My parents have a Toshiba Smart TV. Just loading the apps was painfully slow and had the tendency to crash for no reason. They were better off just using the Roku they had plugged in

I have a 55" set, and I don't think I could see myself getting another TV set at a smaller size. Every TV I look at is 55" or larger. I look at a 42" plasma and think, "how could you play video games on that?" Or I go over my boys house to watch the game and I'm saying in my head, "This would have been better at my house." Ha ha. I'm horrible.
13. "LOL I feel you. I'm like that all the way down to the surround sound" In response to Reply # 11 Mon Aug-10-15 11:42 AM by Lach
I gotta watch movies, events, and play games in no less than 5.1 DD, DTS sound. I love it that I can play games in 7.1 uncompressed now. I'm amazed when I go over someone's house now and they got this fly TV but it's not hooked to any top end receiver. lol
19. "I've noticed I play FPS better on smaller tv's...and don't get headaches" In response to Reply # 11
I PREFER playing on my bigger tv because it's newer and looks better, but with some FPS I get headaches/eye strain when playing, although if I wear my glasses like I'm supposed to and sit further away it's not as much of a problem.
The thing is, though, when I play on my old, smaller tv or on someone else's in the m-d-30 to low 40-inch range I play better. It can be CoD, Halo, Destiny.....doesn't matter. My k/d ratio is better, accuracy is better.
Basically, at home I'm torn between playing on the nice tv with surround sound and perfect seat placement for gaming but don't play as great or I break out the old 720p, 60hz off-brand joint from 2007 and I do big things.

After looking high and low I found a Samsung 51" PLASMA on eBay for pick up in Brooklyn. Got to go and see the TV before the auction finished and everything. Wound up paying less than $500 bones. Picking it up today. Can't wait to see what the games look like.
